They need the money, also it is strange that you can't play first before you spend the $60, but some people will still buy, saying no risk= no reward, i bet those people lose a lot of money in their life.

Really i didn't it cost $10 just to register at clickandbuy. What is going on.
correction...it does not cost to register at click and buy, they asses a feee to check to make sure your card is good then refund it later. My bad, and apologies for the bad info. I remember Horizons did the same thing and people jumped to the conclusuion they wee being charged for the first month.
Still as in regards to the original post . That is quite high for a download game, and you can still play SoG for free even if you do not pre order.

lol... have u ever gone to a store and bought a game? that is new and just came out..... its allways 59.99..... ummm... also... its a PREorder... PRE-order.... PRE..... as in .ur sopposed to order it/buy it before u play....... about 80% of the mmo's/games do that, welcome to the real world lol......
besides they are going to get about $500k which is almost NOTHING when ur talking about a game creation... they got 20 developers working on the game (stricktly developers, not talking about them paying AD) lets just say that each developer is getting payed 100k a year so they are just paying for 5 of their employees, what about hte other 15?... even if the dev's get payed 70k a year *which they arent, dev's get payed a shit load of money, do some research and find out, if u dont belive me* .. its still only a few people that are getting payed... not to mention all the expensise of getting new computers, the bandwith cost, all the engine fee's from possiable software that they might use.... $500k sure helps. but its not that big of a sum of money, when it comes to game development.
EDIT: @Cloudfire post below... you do realize that before you pay the regular $15 monthly fee's for other games u have to buy them first. and ALL the new MMO's/any game for that matter are 59.99 and collectors run anywhere between $70 to $90 ..... besides u get to play for 6 months for free. doesnt that cancell out ur 6 month subscription dilema?....... oh and, no game is $10 anymore, maybe you havent payed for a MMO subscription in a while, but they are all $12.95 - $15 dollars, just thought i would throw that in for kicks.

I can go over tio Eb and Best Buy and pre order any game coming out for 5 bucks. If the game cancels or company goes out of business I can tehn spend that 5 bucks on another game. 60 dollars is now the going rate for some of the new boxed xbox games that are in the stores. Most of which you can find reviews or previews of. Most of which are marketed by established companies, not first time first game developers. I could go on and on but you should get the idea.Here the company could fold the day after teh pre orders is over and you are screwed out of sixty dollars. Sixty dollars is plain stupid money for a download only game that you have alsmost no info about. It is even more stupid when you could wait a week and play it for free to see if it is even worth 6 buks let alone sixty.
Me I will DL and play SoG for free and use my sixt for something productive ..like beer. If I decide DnL is worth 60 I can always order it later.

Yeah its kinda ridiculous i see it as the same as ordering a 6 month subscription to any other game except that you know NOTHING about the game unless your in beta of course. Or you could say that its like buying an game +1 month. Either way im not going to preorder im just going to get the free registration instead of blowing 60 bucks.

I'll take my chances with my measly $60 which I would waste in two days eating pizza, festis, peanutrings, whatever that satisfy my munchies, I waste about $170 a month on things too eat that I don't need to eat so I rather have a digital drake to fly on than a sour stumach and I won't go out drinking or anything when building my wealth during the months until DnL release, so I'll actually save money.

i think its supost to be like a colectors box... you get 1 month free so maybe that counts for something if everyone else doesn't

If they lift NDA and people start posting their in-game experience then yeah, I can see myself spending 60$. But preorder cat-in-a-bag, no thank you.

60$ for a cd key that gives you some special rights, is way to much. It's ok if a collector edition of a game costs that much or even more, but there you get a exclusive box, books, dvd's and alot of cool mechandise out of game + stuff in the game. Here you get a lousy email with a activation code that promises you great things.
if you think $60 is a lot of money, you need to quit your job at MacDonalds and find a real job

Affording it is no problem. The problem I have with it is if 60$ is worth it for a cd key. Other games give me a box with alot of nice things for that amount of money, not just a email with a key.

Angus there have been several bets forum leaks plus those Chinese beta screenshots last week, if you have been paying attention. Look around a bit and I am sure that you can find some.
I doubt seriously if the keys will sell out so I would not be in too big of a rush, but then you have to use your own judgment on that one. If I were you though I would consider it more of a donation for a nice try than a pre order though. I will wait and see if I can get one of the 10,000 free spots myself. But that is being optimistic since I figure that the December SoG date is bullshit also. The Devs over there have a three year track record of missing every single deadline they have ever set, including Octobers announcement of SoG starting this month.
On another note isn't it appropriate that they start taking pre orders on what we in the US refer to as "turkey day" ?

OK I get the joke. Your take on DnL is clear. But...
Ive seen lots of posts complaing about the timing for folks in the US. The devs are French. The entire world doesn't revolve around the US. When do US MMORPGs consider the rest of the world? Not often in my experience. Servers coming down in peak European play times for patches and maintenace etc. Even servers that are marked as Euro ones.
What US developer takes in, or even knows, that July 14 is Bastille day and a major holiday in France for example? Not US bashing, just making the point that there are other countries developing MMORPGs and they are going to use *their* own cultural festival days to work around just as the US does with its.
