Regarding a choice from the MMOG's coming out next year: I'd say, don't be blinded by a few (over) hyped titles. There are quite a lot of titles on the list starting from a rating 7 to 7.2, some of them may be very suprising indeed. Personally I'm keeping a very close eye on The Chronicles of Spellborn, a very promising game with a truly refreshing way of tackling this genre...

All the titles I'm keeping a close eye on come from new independent deveopers. I have no trust left in the so called 'big players'. Thanks for the heads-up on Spellborn ::::31::.

There's little chance of that. Although I found some of the artwork awesome and it had some nice features a game where I managed a level 60 and a level 40+ alt in the free month just wasn't for me. And I'm no catass by a long chalk.

I'd recommend it to any MMORPG virgin though, for its great 20 level tutorial and all round accessibility, but it's not for real men and women. It's also raised the profile of the genre and that's a good thing. I don't hate it. It just wasn't for me and the PvP is a joke compared to DAoC RvR.

Yeah for new people to mmorpg's its a good starting game, but after that 1st month has very little for anyone that likes even the smallest challange. image

Just like me until then I'll play morrowind and free flash games and spam these forums pretty damn good (I can't go back to the vanguard forums they're just too mature for my little mind)

I'm psyched about the Vanguard game.  I really miss oldschool EQ so bad that I went back and tried one of those classic guilds that doesn't twink and only plays the old expansions.  That didn't work because my guildies all gave up (because it was too hard waaah...) and it was just me and a couple others left.  This game should be hard, and interesting with great graphics.  When you were max level in old school EQ, it was a very proud feeling because of the amount of time that you had to invest to get there.  Hell levels...sucked to be in them, but what an accomplishment afterwards.

Am mainly waiting to see how Hero's Journey fleshes out.

Don't know if I am up for the epic grindiness that seems to be VG. I'm probably way off, but think I'll give it a few months after release before trying.

CoSpellborn looks rather neat. Huxley for something different. Conan, LotRO for the hell of it. Lots that I'd like to try, just a pity none are due very soon.
Am in the SoG for D&L so will see how that looks I guess. Anything to force me to cancel my EQ2(=WoWLite) sub...

Well.. least we can say we've been to the depths of MMO pathetic'ness via WoW and EQ2. Can only really go up from there. Let's just hope the Devs of all our above mentioned games have the fortitude to not dumb down our new MMOs to present mass market WoWEQ2ified standards.

    /rant off.

Im putting all my hopes into this one as well.  Ive played alot off mmo's I(EQ1, DAoC, AO, AC2, SB,EQ2, CoH, CoV, and WOW.), and nothing has come close to the fun i had in EQ1(before SOE watered down the game). The fact that the Devs at Sigil are the same people gives me alot of faith in the game. They seen commited to makeing a very imersive and challageing(key word) game. keeping my fingers crossed and gonna get more active in the forums.

In the same boat as almost everyone in that I am putting all my hopes on this one. A bit afraid that nothing will be able to live up to the expectations though.

I'm waiting for the real ground breaking mmorpgs - Trials of Ascension and Ages of Athiria. In the meantime I might check out Vanguard and Lord of the Rings Online. I played AC1 for about 5 years and EQ2 for over a year now. It's a shame Turbine didn't remake AC1 with some tasty new graphics because Asheron's call is a God among games!

Im awating Vanguard. Yes may look like an EQ clone but i have faith. Sides for that no other downsides.

And just to clear things up on the competition.

DDO= 95%Instanced No thanks. I like to play with PEOPLE in a MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLEPLAYING GAME. But hell thats just me and my carziness. Save this pile for a Console system.

    WoW= LOL! Were they serious?!

EQ2= One of the biggest dissapointments so far.

DnL= This will probally be the biggest competitior. Well put together.

Star Trek Online= I know htis one isnt comeing out for a while, but inside of every MMO geek, there is a star trek fan. I am willing ot say there will be crippling loses to alot of games if this is designed right.

Lord of the rings online= Garbage, turbine does not have the experiance, manpower or money to make this game what people will be looking for. I mean rememebr back in the day when it first started, they updated their site like once every 2 months. Thats unheard of, i really dont think they know what they are doing, i have been following this game for a while. And how everyone must be good, and how everyone will be looking forward to being the ringbearer and helping them out will soon find out, that this is the most played out MMo ever, i predict Giant begining even bigger exodus when better mmo's come out, I mean, how much could you do in Middle Earth? Theres only so much, and with that development team, i would predict even less than half. sorry =( just my Humble opinion.

Pirates of the burning sea= Looks like a great game, but i would fear for Eve-Online the most on this one, since it is similiar play styles, just different ages, might give this one a try myself. I like the no grind of the game. No threat to vanguard though.image

Nah lol, forget DnL, their game looks more like an alpha then anything else, i played the game, and i can tell, devs are very unexperienced, they dont talk to the community....just forget DnL,even tho they promise that they will fix everything till april, which i doubt, because there is so much things that are wrong, bad animations( no motion capture what so ever) , missing sounds, lag, tons of errors, server problems, horrible UI, bad camera angles, combat is dull, and the music is to be desired...some of it , really doesnt fit it. SoG is just a big dragon flight simulator, 40square miles of nothin, anyways, i still got my free account, may chek it out in a few months, i just dont trust em, i mean if that pile of crap they call SoG took em 4 years to do then....i dunn what they can do in 4 months, only time will tell.

Lets move on, i played a good number of mmos(eq,eq2,WoW,L2,daoc etc) and im starting to feel like u guys, WoW was good the first few weeks, but then it got old , really fast, i played eq2 for 1 year, almost maxed out my char 60/60, it was a good game at first, it had its potential, but it got old too, i feel that vanguard is gonna be the eq2 we all wished it will be. EQ doesnt = vanguard, they are using the same successful base as EQ, but they are adding more content, new features, i will give it a try, i trust their team of devs, they got experience( unlike NP3, probably never did a game of their lifes). Age of conan looks nice, but its not really a mmo, DDO either, they are more like guildwars. So basically, Vanguard will be alone up there in the mmo department, dnl has lost alot of credibility of the past weeks, doubt they will be competition.

Im staying with vanguard atm, if it ends up being vaporware, well.....there is warhammer online in 2007, developed by mythic, i loved daoc, anyways :P

I plan of trying this game out. I played EQ1 off and on since Velious was released with the most recent run being 20 months where I made an Iksar Monk and progressed him to Qvic and 609 AAs. I am currently playing WOW, it is a relaxing change from EQ1 where I raided 21+ hours a week. I am not sure of how long WOW will keep my intress but right now I am playing with friends and I have come to believe that the friends you play with is a greater factor then the actual game. In my case it is 51% friends and 49% gameplay.

I wish there were more options for the player who wants to step away from D&D type fantasy games. I heard that a Star Trek based MMORPG was being developed but I have not heard anything from that lately. I wish that a game based on the Mechwarrior theme would be made. I am surprised that MechWarrior has not been done as a MMORPG yet.

I am just stunned nobody has brought up Age of Conan, which is at the top of my watch list. Vanguard looks interesting, but I am not that much of a hardcore raider...still, I am hopeing there is a niche in for me in Van, because I have respect for the core team of devs

check out the forums and dev notes on this game. they are focusing on grouping ,not huge raids. they want to bring back the good old 5/6 man dungeon crawls, or exploration group. the devs from sigil listen to the community and know that is the key to makeing a great game.

DDO is i been told, all instanced (except for towns). That isnt a MMOG imo. This is the only other MMOG i was looking at, since ive quit EQ2 (and no i refuse to go back, deleted my characters to make sure).
Vanguard sounds like what EQ2 should have been, and with some stuff that EQ2 was hyped for but was taken out during beta, talk about false advertising.

I feel the same way, if it's not as good as what I'm hoping I'll probably quit gaming altogether image

I wouldn’t go that far.  Looks like there are a few good games coming out.

  • SczenSczen Member Posts: 5

The games are apples and oranges.

Vanguard has a loyal fanbase of former Eq players, who are exicited for Sigil Inc. It has no instances, unlike DDO, and has the high fantasy setting that is unparalled by the other MMO's. In my mind, VG will start slow, and slowly pick up steam as more and more people begin taking notice from the EQ Fanboi's l33t talk.

For all the people who say thy will quit if Vanguaed is not all it says it is. well first off your nut's if your a gamer you want be able to help your self. MMO are like noothere games out there. and last when did any game go live with all the things it said it would.  I don't know of any but quit crying if you want to quit someyhing and go looking for two or more mmo games to play.

but thats just me.   good hunting friends

    "players"

well WoW is #1, all the etards are playing WoW. the only game that would appeal to the WoW'ers is probably Auto Assault.

Basicly, VGSOH and Heros Journey will battle it out for the title of THE BEST MMO... if both end up sucking ill be playing Phantasy Star Universe... and be done with these mmos...
