Best Community

Curious as to which game out there has the best community?(mature, social, etc....)

Look for unpopular Isometric views like Ragnarok Online.  They typically have the best community.

I've played quite a few games in my time.  I kind of consider myself a mid-expert.  I'll put the ones I've played in order from best community to worse.

EQ1 (very very helpful and generous)
Asheron's Call 2 (they were so nice!  I loved those people.  I hate this game died.)
    DAoC (really into fun competition)
    EQ2 (most mature, IMO)
Horizons (want their game to survive, so they're helpful)
    EVE Online
Final Fantasy (really close to EVE Online though, EVE is a bit better)
    Anarchy Online (sometimes mean though)
    Shadowbane (sometimes mean though)
WoW (OMG, horrible, horrible, horrible.  Did I leave out horrible.  You have to search for the rare good guys, they're heavily outnumbered.  I hope that changes sometime soon.)

you cannot gage games by their communities. Why ? because they are directly proportion to their success. That is the larger your playerbase is the more chance you will run into a jerk. The smaller your playerbase the more chance that the MMO is just surviving and the more chance you will run into friendly people who are helpful.

WoW is considered to be the worst community ? why ? its not the game but the fact there are 4 million plus playing it. So you have the greater chance in having a bad experience. Means as well you have to search harder to be around people you like. Likewise being a vet of many MMO's I have yet to have one single bad experience with WoW in my now almost year of playing it. Yet my worst experience with another player was with the game Horizons along with the worst community experience I ever had ( a bunch of crafters trying to fix prices very high). But yet that game is supposed to have the best community ? I think not.

Personally I believe the Bnet kiddie rep that WoW has is misplaced.

No you really can't judge a game by its supposed community. Cause more times than not the community is not a reflection to the quality of game even if the community may affect that quality for you.

But staying in topic the BEST community I have ever been exposed to was the folks playing Eve Online. The rest really do not stand out with good and bad experiences.

I use to agree with that playing on a PvE server. Most of the people there are ok. There where far more normal people and the bad ones where few in number. I moved to a PvP server just to try something new and wow. The leet speaking trash mouth kids everyone talks about are everywhere.

So I guess that just goes to show you, communities are more server based then game. Any, and every game has it's bad players and good ones. Picking a game because someone told you it has nice people is probably the wrong way to go about it.

I must say that despite the battering it receives on the community front WoW's community isn't that bad.  NOW STAY WITH ME HERE...hehe

Because of the huge population you get a huge population of dimwits...BUT...you also get quite a large population of very good players too.

WoW is the game that I've met the MOST cool, friendly, helpful and generous people in (and I believe it's because of the huge population and in spite of it).  I've also met the most dummies in there too, but then, again, that's because of the huge number of people playing it.

The thing that makes WoW's community great (and better than nearly all the rest) is that you can actually get a group SO EASILY that it doesn't matter if you meet a couple of dummies, you can just get rid of them and find someone else to fill their place in VERY short order.

EDIT: OK, just saw the post above me and must qualify...I too played on a PvE server...they're the best servers anyway...you can still PvP but without the stupidity that comes from overexcited-PvP-fanboi types.  (not including all PvPers here...just to qualify again)

Shadowbane has a pretty good community, but there are a few bad apples in it. EQ2 has the most mature and helpful community in my opinion, but again, there are a few bad apples (very few, though)

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

I would go for AC2 and EQ2 as the clear front runners for most friendly and mature community.

I have played AC1,DAoC,AC2,EQ1/2,WoW,shadowbane,CoH,UO,eve online,SWG,PS,RO,GW and the list goes on and i would say those 2 stand out.

I find AC2 had a more helpful community then EQ2 though so would give the medal to AC2 but only slightly.

But since AC2 is soon to be closed down guess EQ2.

from all the mmorpg's ive played, and thats quite a lot, i cant say the community in WoW is bad, IMO the most players are nice and quite helpfull although i admit that there are some fags here and there but not as many as most people say

    PotCO player
Ex-WoW player, hackers screwed it up and blizzard is too lazy to give a shit

I use to shun WoW cause of it's community but after the game is out for a year and there are several 60s it's easy to find the mature folks to run with because a lot of them are indeed the level 60s (from my experience)

Honestly, I think the 2 best communities in games are EU fairyland and A tale in the desert II, ATITD, when you get off the noob starting island and into Egypt, the community is exceptionally nice and mature, the fairyland community isn't what can be called mature, but the people are nice, and tell/give you things.

Ya I think your right, Fairyland and A Tale in the Desert 2 definetly have a great community.  Its too bad the games are so unpopular.

Of all games I've played and tried, FFXI is without a doubt the best community. That combined with the feeling of that world is very nice. WoW is just horrible! Though on the new RP server Moonglade it is very nice. Flyff etc... no comment :D

I've never tried EQ2,Eve,AC2 etc... can't comment on those :)

    Let's work with ratios here.

If 80% of the population are jerks then 80% of the general chat would be filled with jerks chatting.  Despite which game your playing.   It doesn't matter if you've got 20 people playing or 2,000.  The proportion of crap chat your going to see is going to be the same.

That's why if I saw 200 lines of chat go by in one game and 160 of it was from jerks and I played another game where 20 lines of chat went by and 16 lines of it was from jerks I would rate those games with the same score on community.  It's got nothing to do with population from a ratio standpoint.  And of all the lines of chat that go buy in WoW I see a much higher proportion of it as just juvenile garbage.

Now, on another note.  In the games I've listed at the top, generally more often than the games at the bottom, when someone does decide they want to step off into the juvenile delinquent realm of "conversation" there's usually someone there to slap them across the mouth like their mother should have done.  Anecdotal evidence on my part, but I've noticed it just the same.

I was about to create the same topic here. I'm glad I've searched for it first :)

Anyway, a big part of the pleasure of playing a MMOG is the community. That's why I'm trying to find a great game with a nice/mature community.

I'm a PvP WoW player and I have to say I love the game, but I can't say the same thing about the community. It's full of anoying jerks and imature people. And for the most part Alliance do not act as Alliance(the good guys) at all! Kind of frustrating...

I think I'll give EQ a chance. Never played it and the game is cheap now. Maybe I'll check Anarchy Online (base game is free now) and EQ2 sometime in the future.

I had to laugh reading the comment on WoW since I kind of agree. I've never seen so many weird, totally clueless people like in WoW. Blizzard got a lot of people that never played a multiplayer game/mmorpg before to buy their product and the results are what you see. But like in all games it really depends on the server and the ppl you hang out with.

I liked the community in Horizons while I played it. There also was a nice community on Lineage 2 (Erica). But they also had a lot of anti social creeps. More then in any other MMO title i ever played. Was kinda sad to see most of the nice people leaving over time because they got sick of getting griefed by cheaters and commercial adena farmers.

I noticed the same thing when I was beta testing Lineage 2. Actually, the amount of anti-social behaviour is rivaled only by Lineage... must be something to do with the names! The only way you can really make it through a game like Lineage or Lineage 2 is to have a good, solid guild with decent people. Then you can ignore the psychotics and racist trash that permeates those two games.

If you are looking for a fun game plus a good community, you might want try Saga of Ryzom.  People there are very very friendly.  Everyone there is pretty mature, not alot of kiddies.  Top that the customer service is excellent.  You could talk to a GM there if you need help with anything.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

  • SigneSigne Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,524

I was in the SoR beta and played a month or so after it launched... it just wasn't my sort of game. However, I have to agree with the poster above... what a nice bunch of people run that game and the community was great!

  • KillerVKillerV Member Posts: 76

I think I'll add Ryzom to my 'to try' list. ::::02::

I guess D&D Online will have a nice community when it's released. Because it's not aimed at "average joe" gamers, but D&D players. Although it will certainly have its downsides as all quests will be instances and all...

True, the EU PvE and RP servers are very nice, however, the PvP servers are still inhabitaed (sp?) by tards.

WoW is generally a much younger audience. But I have come across quite a selection of older people which is good.

I was going to say The Saga of Ryzom has a nice community... but someone beat me to it ::::33::

The community is great, the GMs are awesome, and even in the PvP grounds, everyone is very mature.
