I was reading thru VSoH's FAQ. I came across a questions about VSoH allowing "premium servers"
http://www.vanguardsoh.com/faq.php?eid=15&faqid=15&ptext=Alternate+Rule+set+Servers
Does anyone know what's meant by this? what exactly is a "premium server"?
thanks in advance.

A premium server is a special type of server. In order to access that server you have to pay a bigger monthly fee but in return you will get some advantages like more events, try the newer zones before the rest of the population, better items, improved customer support...
It's not very common in western mmorpgs the only one i remember is everquest with Stromhammer, but in asian mmorpgs it's more common, since usually the normal game is free and the "premium" it's subscription based.
Since vanguard is going to be a subscription based mmorpg, the premium server(if exists(unlikely)) will be similar to the everquest one.
ah. that makes sense.
Thanks for the reply

i wouldnt mind paying extra a month for a better gaming experience
but then again thats me
if i remember right it was $40 per month in everquest (i could be wrong) no way in hell would i pay that much per month to play one game.
read this http://www.vanguardsoh.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1044304#post1044304 then come back and talk to me about the vanguard/soe fiasco.....
isn't the acceptance of preimium servers in the western world proof that normal Developers of these games are letting down the game itself by selling out?
These Developers of all MMORPGs stop developing and improving the game after its release they simply rely upon expansions with minor increases to the game state to be enough to keep it afloat.
Ultima Online, Anarchy Online...I can cite as prime examples. AO was the best example of a storyline game that just quit being developed and changed to the world, then the expansions are used to change the game.
I can't speak for some of the other MMORPGs.
I've seen reports on some improvements in WoW, but that one really dosen't have much of a storyline to evolve
Everquest had an extensive storyline and faction with different races/merchant groups/cities that got abandoned in later expansions. Easy travel for every class, whacky stupid sci-fi expansions, kill the gods stupidity, to much raiding which I think hurt the game gaining new players and lost players, etc.
The premium server in EQ got you:
1. Good-faster GM response, mostly anyway
2. Great-A much more adult population due to a $40.00 a month fee
3. Poor-GM events that became meaningless overtime due to the rewards being not up to snuff due to SOE management interference.
4. Disgraceful-Early access to zones before other servers, but Stormhammer was promised those zones permanently and they weren't supposed to be available on other servers, SOE lied what a surprise (not).
5. Horrible-Ebay crowd of significant size, because you could buy groups of the best equipped characters on other servers, then move them here, then raid zones and sell them for RL $$, so even no drop stuff is buyable.
6. Great-A GM enforced raid list for guilds, pre-assigned on the first Mondays and Tuesdays I think every month.
7. Bad-Players using the server to transfer droppables between servers, or lie and move characters between servers without paying the $75.00 fee.
Overall a very mixed bag.
Oh forgot one;
8. An absolutely untraceable name change for the troublemakers/ebayers after one month for free (except the $40.00 server charge, which is a sizable amount more then standard charge $14.95)
Premium servers, oh please. Spare us. for the love of all that is holy, spare us.
(come back to reality)
Seems like these Dev's had a little SOE rubbed on them over the years of taking it up the poop shute.
For any Dev that may be reading this, although highly unlikely.
Don't make us pay more for services you should be doing ANYWAYS! God o'mighty, hold the gm events, have good cutomer service, do these things! on REGULAR SERVERS to gain a REPUTATATION, i mean sure beign the origional Devs of EQ1 says alot, but you may need more for other people than that, so do what you guys are trying to do MAKE A better game that STANDS above the rest in customer satisfaction and Excellance.

They have already said Sigil is not a fan of Premium servers. And if by chance there IS a premium server, you will get your moneys' worth.
