The developers, such as Raph Koster and Jeff Freeman, work for SOE. When you cancel the game, you cancel through SOE. Customers do everything through SOE. That's where your complaints will be heard and probably have the most impact, although complaining to the producers of the game, Lucas Arts, can't hurt either. You'll have to email them or something, however. When you go to Lucas Arts and choose SWG, it redirects to Station.com. As far as I know, Lucas Arts has no SWG forums.

You are correct Signe. What I am saying is that SOE does not now, nor did they ever control the content of SWG. All decisions as to what content was to be included in SWG, game mechanics and even when to release were all Lucas games decisions. When the game was first previewed at E3, it was in the Lucas Arts pavilion, by invitation only, although SOE people were showing it to the public at the Nvidia booth, which was sort of strange.

I don't play SWG, but if the game has gone through a major revamp you can be sure that it was a Lucas decision to do so, not SOE.

I could be wrong, but I do not believe that Lucas Games has any facility to do monthly billing, online customer service, etc. that are required in order to run an MMORPG, hence the deal with SOE to host SWG.

    I disagree with the OP.

If SoE lose customers and piss a lot of them, I don't think every company will follow and do the same.

SoE is trying hard to achieve a vision and honestly, they are hurting, goofing and not a great partner at all from a player point of view.  Someone would expect them to be more careful and tender with all this "online experience", but if you are centered on yourself rather than on your partner (the player), in fact you may even get worser with time.

I think the Lucas aspect is no longer part of it, I don't know if I'm remembered right or not but I think its totally under SoE's control now.

The only reason SOE is keeping the game is because they think that since they have the label, they can exploit the fans of the movies to playing the game. It isn't ethical!

Who? Sony? Not likely. I think it's still the world's largest consumer electronics company. At the end of the day, SWG won't make a dent in their empire. Apple's IPod did spank their Walkman a bit some years ago which made me smile.

I do not understand your point and where you disagree.  However, let me make my point a little clearer.

What if one day, your favorite MMORPG decided, without asking for your input, that EVERYTHING you have done in the game for over 2 years was now worhtless and pointless.  Would you be upset?

This is what SOE has done.  They may argue that vets get some nifty toys like buffs and saber crystals, but its all junk anyway.   SOE effectively created a new game and placed it over the top of SWG.  The only thing that is the same, and that carries over are credits (not that they are worth anything anymore) and your houses (which you can't decorate anymore because there is no persistant targeting).

My original post was about how this can not be allowed to succeed.  If it does, then when your favorite game, that you have poured your efforts into, runs into trouble, they may do the same to yours.

This fiasco is being VERY VERY closely watched by other gaming companies to guage the level of account rentention.

Put another way, SOE developed a whole new game behind the players backs.  They did this without player input.  They used monies that should have gone to fixing the issues in the game we were paying for and decided to make an all new game.  For years, we were bitching about problems in the game and things that needed fixing.  What does SOE do?  They siphon money off the budget for game repairs and enhancements and stick it into new game development!!  They got the development of their new game paid for by subsribers to a different game.  Brilliant from a business perspective.  But HORRIBLE from a customer perspective.   All the while, they were promising fixes and updates, while in reality, they had no intention of making any meaningful changes to SWG.  They were sticking their money into NGE and leaving the old SWG to rot.

That it why we all need this thing to fail and fail miserably!
