Yes absolutely. FFXI is in my honest opinion one of the best MMO's on the market, ten times better than WOW. My reasons:
The community is the friendliest around. At least on Gilgamesh. Everyone helps one another through everything. It's not as competitive as games like D2, which is the kind of game I like personally. Don't know about you. And the community is very social. I have made more friends in one week on FFXI, than I did within 6 or so months on other games.
The graphics are just plain out incredible. In my opinion the best out of all MMO games on the market.
The Storyline is absolutely wonderfully inspiring, and immersive, exactly what you come to expect from FF.
The only downsides:
The game requires a very powerful PC. If your computer isn't powerful enough to run it, either upgrade your PC hardware, get it for PS2/Xbox360, or skip it entirely.
The download times for updates and the installation times are extremely long. For this reason I'd suggest having broadband internet connection.
Just remember, you're gonna have to invest a lot of time in this game. Why WoW is more popular compared to FFXI is because it moves by faster. Plus later on in FFXI (teens+) you have to group unless you are a BST/WHM. This can get repetitive and if you are a crappy job or overused (like DRK) you might spend hours looking for a group and doing nothing and might not even find a group.
In reponse to best graphics, I have to admit, it was one of the best, but some games like EQ2 surpass it (even though EQ2 suks).
It all depends if you are willing to invest time into it and/or you won't be bored being LFG for hours.
Also it doesn't require anything too powerful, just broadband connection (that's a must). I think I played FFXI with a 1.8GHz P4, 256MB RAM, and a Nvidia FX 5200. Nothing too flashy
It has fjkjk4btw amazing music and graphics though.
Too bad you die way to easily in or out of a group, soloing is impossible, everyone has the same gear/looks the same, all monster models look the same, quests are repetitive and boring, combat in a group because, since everyone has the same stuff, you lose yourself, runs bad on a good computer (my experience),
It's not a very fun game. It's been my second worse MMO experience.
Again beg to differ....there is PvP. It's called Ballista. I believe you need Rank 3 to get a Ballista Liscence though before you can do it, but it's there.
I voted no, on the PC version moving about is fine but you have ot learn to make macros to find any useful teams, its simply not newbie friendly game. Takes a bit to get use to moving about, and once you reach a certain level its a group only game, and groups aren't friendly if your slow or new to the game. In my experience over a year ago that is, and that re-subscribe fee if you cancel and want to come back and play oh my you have got to be kidding me.
Aside from that I simply love talking to all the NPCs, and I luv Tarutaru and Mithra pretty much only two races I liked in game.
Dont hesitate to get this... game.. it does take long but that makes it fun and you dont always have to leveling.. But if its like wow where you level fast and everyone a high level its like umm this is gay... whasts the point... Try the 30 day trial get as far as you can in the game(At least 20 before you quit) ... 1-20 does suck i have to admit.. thats why most people dont like it. Im on Remora Server and my name is Xraided .. hit me up.
