I'm a mature MMO player. I've played PnP RPGs since I was twelve and have played most of the big MMOs from EQ on. I think your characterizations of WoW are pretty unfounded and totally off the mark. Go to a PvP server and spend all your time in the newbie zones and you may be forgiven for thinking that a third of the players are immature kiddies. The rate of mature, intelligent and friendly players increases significantly as you leave the newb zones. The "kiddies" seem to drop by at least half just moving to the lvl 10 to lvl 20 zones and by another 90% by the time you reach level 30. The situation is much better on the PvE servers and much better again on the RP servers.

If you look at the level distribution on the servers that have been around the longest, about 80% of the characters there are level 50+ and by that point, the kiddies are usually completely gone.

To be honest, even in the newb zones on PvP servers, the community is better than I would have expected, but it really improves exponentially if you give the game enough of a chance to progress to the more advanced zones.

To say that 80% of WoWs player base are "kids" is pretty absurd. Even if half the new players each month where under 18, which I doubt, the majority of the "kids" are usually weeded out pretty fast, at worst they usually get stuck in the under lvl 20 crowds, at best they aren't even subscribers longer than a couple months.

Just for clarity sake, even though you use an age range, I'd use the term "kiddies" i.e. the immature, disruptive, clueless youngsters. There are many under 18 players who are very mature and capable and I mean absolutely no disparagement to any of them. :)

Heh I've experienced my share of 40 year old "kiddies" in WoW as well....there really is no age requirement for acting like an idiot. I've also played with many younger players who were great in groups and did quite well.
