The reason why I'll laugh is simple: NP3cube seems unable to get the game going, yet they are pretty much lying and keeping the community waithing for the game that is not even half done.
It's funny how they just sold 8881 preorder to people who never even saw the game! The lack of information is appaling, but the lack of positive beta tester reviews is even more frustrating. I feel like the developers of that game are cheating their fanbase. All we saw at E3 was a vast "wasteland" - there's no mobs, very few buildings and dated graphics... The beta tester reviews I've seen are extremely negative
Not to mention that they were *unable* to keep the beta serves up during the entire fall! The game is not being actively beta tested - there's nothing to test
Yet nobody stepped up and apologised or clarified the cituation...
Well this is what I have to say about DnL 1) I have not played the game. 2) I can only go by what I read on DnL web site and what I read on the forums 3) I don't care what people say about the game, I will judge for my self.
Now I have played both EQ2 and WoW, on EQ2 I took my Druid to level 42 and got bored and left...Not a bad game all in all, I give it a 6 1/2 out of 10. Now for WoW I have 8 different players my main being a level 60 pally and yes i still play the game, but the things you do in the game is the same over and over, and when you get to level 60...well the only thing left to do is go and make a new player...lol. I give it a 7 out of 10.
Now for DnL I did pre order the Pioneer pack and it seems to have way more stuff to do then both WoW and EQ2 and SWG. So if the Graphics are not up to par I can live with that as long as the game gives me lots to do, and i don't mind people saying I paid $60 for a game that is still in beta.
I am sure by the time the game comes out in 2006 it will rock, but if it turns out to be a Big Stinker well i will just file it under all the other PC, XBOX and PS games that I have paid the same price for that stinks to..lol, thats the fun of playing games.
All i can say is this..Don't Knock it till you try it And to all Merry Christmas and Happy new year.
I don't expect much from the game myself. Past performance from NP3 does not exactly instill a lot of "faith" in me. Certainly not enough to waste 60 dollars on one of the pioneer keys. Matter of fact I am surprised they have not announced another regrettable but unavoidable delay. Attitudes like alltheres I find particularly surprising since from every indication this game will be pure feces.
Their website is amateurish, their past behavior is more amateurish. They have kept the game under strict lock and key not even letting legitimate third party game sites see it for a preview. Their showing at E3 this year was a joke among participants, they had less to show after 3 years work than games that had been in production for a year. So far all the game consists of nothing more than a dog and pony show by NP3 and their toadies over at AD. This Pioneer key for the faithful is their last ditch effort to produce something resembling a game after 4 years of effort. Investment bankers and third party publishers will not touch them now, so they had to do something to fund their project for a bit longer.
Tomorrow i expect something, but not much. Perhaps something along the lines of Knight Online would be a reasonable expectation. That is if AD can keep their web server going long enough to get people registered and NP3 can keep the gamer servers running. That in itself will be minor miracles so don't expect much fan boys and girls.
All that said I will attempt to get a key if the web server works and there are any left by the time I get home. I briefly considered taking half a vacation day, and just as quickly discarded that idea. If it is not worth 60 bucks to me why should I bother. Anyway I fully expect the forums to be a lot more interesting in the next few days than the game will ever be. I will not laugh at the game being a failure, what I will smile over though is watching the fan boys squirming like a schoolchildren who need a potty break and franticly trying to justify their purchase while making excuses for the company.
You know what would be even better though? To find out I have been dead wrong for the last six months and the people over at NP3 are better game designers than Blizzard North....yeah right LOL, Was that a flock of pigs I just saw fly by my window...hmmmmm

I can understand you perfectly and the things you mention anoys me as well. On the other hand I have even less faith in Blizzard and SoE. I look at all the MMORPG on the market and whats on way and only two games sound interesting to me DnL and Vanguard. Well when I started look at the games DnL was planned to be released half a year before Vanguard and sounded alot more new and interesting.
The thing about Vanguard is it is more traditional MMORPG and after 6 years of EQ1 I think the concept and ideas in DnL is refreshing. About buying Pioneer key that was a desition of my girl friend and I have bought more expensive gadges then us$60 so it is not really an issue if I like it or not money wice.

They are a small company without the big funds in the back so money are of course an issue. They cant afford to hire 20 new developers as Blizzard did when they were behind schedule. As I read somewhere that can't be found anymore they write they didnt want to put money into marketing instead they focus on build up a community a community they belived was the basics of the longevity of a game.
They succeded on the community and as I see it SoG was the move to keep most of it with another delay.

Yes that is what I hope as well except that about Blizzard should be excellent game designers. I always have Vanguard to fall back too if everything fails.
Maybe you have remote relatives in my home country because your mentality is very alike to "Law of the Jants" described by a fameus writer from here. Not at all what is normal US mentality.

That is pretty much my thoughts aswell. I figure some of the smarter ones are already preparing their sanctimonious rabble for tomorrow, just incase.
I dont understand why anyone would trust np3 with their money when they barely know anything about the game. All the bridges in the world arent enough for these people..

Just out of curiosity. Why would one "laugh" if a game turns out to be bad? Isn't that a little too...
melodramatic?
Out of the ten years of playing MMOs, Ive noticed MMO gamers are an unusual lot. Some people will talk badly about a game (which is VERY normal) and then some will hate the game so badly that I swear they break out in hate hives on their backs everytime they log onto a forum and post about the game they so avidly hate.
What makes DnL interesting is that the game hasn't been released yet. Which, out of my years playing and modding MMOs, definetely would define this event as an unusual anamoly. Very strange indeed.
The problem is MMO market is still in early phase of evolment. At first there were a few pioneer games and they were huge successes considered the total player count. Now we in a phase where companies go after fast profit staggering the game market leaving the experienced players with nothing to do. Everyone want a share of Blizzards success.
Next phase I hope will be battle about exiting and challenging gameplay but in meantime we have to live with the bored hateful trolls or maybe Im wrong and they came to stay I hope not.
Looking back I was not much into msg board reading myself but in a wating state for next game to play I find myself spend rather long time on a few.
If DnL and Vanguard turns out to be WoW clones or fails otherwice then I am afraid my MMO periode ends.
What has NP3 shown us to justify the hype? We've seen some decent landscapes, some ugly character/monsters models, an E3 demo of a huge empty world and some obscenly stale and repetative combat, some 'positive' beta testimonials which when summed up equate to "This is a nice game to look at.", and a LOT of broken promises.
Youve asked us "trolls" and "naysayers" to justify ourselves dozens of times, why dont the followers explain to us why we should still be looking forward to this game when, as fans, we have had the wool pulled over our eyes so many times and receive no feedback on the real progress of the game?

It is not about being negative it is about repeat the same old things over and over and often arguments without any proof or hold in reality. When the positive poster repeat the same thing again and again they get bashed as well. Everyone is aware they delayed release 3 times already. Everyone aware that beta test contain not near complete game and thats why they pushed the release date oppose to game like Irth who actually released an unfinished game. This kind info have been postet 100+ times on this board.

I know! I asked this same question in another thread. I don't understand why anyone would be gleeful to see a game fail and the disappointed fans. Are people that mean? I completely understand why people are skeptical... I am too... especially in light of what happened with Mourning. What I don't understand is why people are so militantly for or against something like this to the extent where you can actually feel the anger in their words. This is entertainment, folks... not the war in Iraq or the plight of the left handed albino racoon children. Some people paid $60 and took a risk.... some decided caution was the better choice... so what?
Someone should write a book! Oh wait... Dr. Seuss did... The Sneetches!

Exactly what I wanted to say.
Seriously, I'd rather be negative and be surprised than be a very positive fanboy that forces the "greatness" of DnL down every person they meet, just to be disappointed and find out they wasted a year or two of their lives defending a shit game.
I'm willing to bet that Dark and Light will be either cancelled because of the skyrocketing amount of negative comments after SoG's release, or cancelled because of going bankrupt. I have my reasons to believe this, but I won't say anything. Just wait and see.
Im new to these forums and found a link to them via the DnL forums. I thought Id add my thoughts to this thread as I was quite sursprised at the flaming DnL was getting over here.
I'm one of the 8,881 pioneers that payed $60 for DnL. To me thats less than a Friday night in the pub so the first Friday I stop in and play DnL I'll have already made my money back.
I agree that there is very little information been released about this game compared to others at the same stage, but what info I have seen has caught my attention enough to buy a pioneer key. The things I like the look of in this game are the pure size, there is a link somewhere comparing the map in WoW and DnL, and DnL is about 10 times the size of WoW. I also like the whole idea of dark and light allignments and following certain Gods.
However, what has really impressed me is the community that has already built up on the DnL forums. I've just left SWG and would have left earlier if it wasn't for the great community there, something seriously lacking in WoW. The forum also has a really good group of mods that join in with the posts and only lock a post when necessary, and even then usually leave some sort of witty comment about why they are locking it.
And to the person that said that the only reason the DnL forums were full of good things about the game because the mods locked any posts saying anything bad about it, you obviously havent spent much time on the forums.
All I can say is yes it was a risk buying the pioneer key, but nobody forced me to get it and how many times have you bought a game off the shelf because it looked good only to find that its rubbish and don't play on it after a day? The DnL devs must also be pretty confident about it to let 18,881 peeps play a scaled down version of the game for 6 months, risking them not liking it and not buying it in April (for the free SoG accounts) or not subscribing to it.
I can understand people being cautious about a game that they haven't even seen, but why such vocalised hatred? I can only assume that you are bitter about somethinbg.
At the end of the day if the games poor than we will shrug our shoulders and move on to the next MMORPG in the hope that it will be better. But if the game turns out to be as good as it could be then you will look a fool when you have to remove your foot from your mouth and buy it in April.
It's true. You take the same risk buying any game, MMO or not. You buy it, you give it a go and if it's pure cak, you can only blame yourself. Unfortunately, if you live in the US, I don't think you can even return it once opened. Even reading all the reviews, looking at the fan site, and asking friends who may have played the game their opinion, doesn't insure you're going to enjoy it.
