    Jackson Booked on Molestation Suspicion

    By JEFF WILSON
    Associated Press Writer

    November 20, 2003, 6:14 PM EST

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- His hands cuffed behind his back, Michael Jackson was booked on suspicion of child molestation Thursday after arriving by private jet to face charges that could destroy the pop star's career and send him to prison for years.

The self-styled "King of Pop" immediately posted $3 million bail and waved to reporters and flashed a V-sign before leaving the Santa Barbara County jail in a black Suburban escorted by three sheriff's motorcycle officers.

"He's come back specifically to confront these charges head-on," defense attorney Mark Geragos said. "He is greatly outraged by the bringing of these charges. He considers this to be a big lie."

With Jackson's riches and global fame, the advent of 24-hour cable news channels, and the rise of TV cameras in the courtroom, the allegations set the stage for what could be the most sensational celebrity court case the world has ever seen.

Authorities released no details of the case beyond a warrant accusing the 45-year-old Jackson of multiple counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14, an offense punishable by three to eight years in prison.

But news reports have said the child was a 12- or 13-year-old boy who visited Jackson at his Neverland Ranch, a storybook playland where the singer was known to hold sleepovers for children and share his bed with youngsters.

Jackson returned to California from Las Vegas, where he was making a video, a day after authorities announced a warrant for his arrest had been issued.

Jackson's leased jet landed at Santa Barbara Municipal Airport and rolled its nose into a hangar before those aboard stepped out. A law enforcement convoy took him to the main county jail, where the handcuffed singer, wearing a black coat and pants with a white shirt and white tie, was escorted inside and booked for investigation of child molestation.

Sheriff's Sgt. Chris Pappas characterized Jackson and his representatives as cooperative during the 30- to 45-minute booking process.

Reporters swarmed the airport, the jail and sheriff's headquarters, awaiting Jackson's return.

A demonstrator outside the jail, college student Cesar Mendoza, held a homemade sign reading "Moonwalk 2 jail."

"I love his music, but I don't know if I can support him now. This is his second time. I can't believe him anymore," said Mendoza, 22, of Isla Vista.

Jackson's brother Jermaine denounced the allegations in a CNN interview as "nothing but a modern-day lynching."

"This is what they want to see: him in handcuffs. You got it. But it won't be for long, I promise you," Jermaine Jackson said.

District Attorney Thomas W. Sneddon Jr. said Wednesday that Jackson's warrant soon will be followed by the filing of charges. Jackson was given a Jan. 9 arraignment date.

Geragos, who also is defending Scott Peterson of Modesto, Calif., in the high-profile Laci Peterson murder case, had arranged Jackson's return from Las Vegas.

"He understands the people who are outraged, because if these charges were true, I assure you Michael would be the first to be outraged," Geragos said outside the jail.

"I'm here to tell you today, Michael has given me the authority to say on his behalf these charges are categorically untrue. He looks forward to getting into a courtroom as opposed to any other forum and confronting these accusations head on."

Jackson dominated pop music in the 1980s but was damaged by a similar molestation allegation in 1993. But no charges were ever filed. Jackson maintained his innocence but reportedly paid the boy's family a multimillion-dollar civil settlement, and the child refused to testify in any criminal proceedings.

The district attorney has said the youngster in the latest case is cooperating with investigators and has no plans to sue. He also said prosecutors could be helped by a law, passed since the earlier Jackson investigation, that was designed to keep civil suits from interfering with criminal cases.

You have to keep in mind the slants of the story we get. Yes, he slept with children in the same bed but, would he if he didn't really know them? They make it sound like he just likes sleeping with little boys no matter who they are. Who hasn't slept with a child they know, though? When my sister was younger I would sometimes sleep with her because it helped her go to sleep when I was babysitting. In a sleepover setting I have no qualms about sleeping with my kid cousins, who are little boys. Either way, I do think he has phychological problems. The biggest one I can think of is that he's an imaginary invalid to a degree.

ok well that explains the molestation part

but i know he was black...and now he is kind've white...but that gives him no reason to act and look like a woman

    i mean...cmon

he's gay no doubt, and beijng gay, what keeps you from little boys?

    image

  • SamusicSamusic Member CommonPosts: 466
Well, bleaching his skin was his own way of dealing with his skin disease. He felt that having all white skin would look better than being black with white blotches all over his body. I know somebody with a similar condition who needs to have her own medical tanning bed in her basement so keep her skin in good condition, along with an array of creams. Also, there are many flaming heterosexual men in the world. I actually have a friend who I thought was gay for a while. Turns out that he's just a flaming heterosexual, he acts how he acts and that's the way it is for him. It's of no concern to him whether people think he's gay or straight. He doesn't even come close to Prince, and we all know how much Prince loves women. Maybe too much.image Anyway, saying that being gay makes you like little boys is just silly.

they have a new term for flaming hetrosexuals...its now metrosexuals

because they are not gay, yet they take a lot of pride in their appearance

but anyhow... i know MJ's condition is very bad... but cmon, whats the point of sleeping in bed with little boys?

i mean, maybe he's trying to give them a good life, but could you imagine being married and telling your wife you slept with Michael Jackson?

......neverland was one thing, but sleeping with little boys, now that is wayyyyyy over the line.

he needs to be stopped, i heard that he got released from jail yesterday also...did he pay the bond?

what happened? he should be locked up till he dies!

First of all, I think MJ is the #1 freakazoid.  I believe he is a complete liar about both plastic surgery (he claims 2, does he think we are that stupid?) and his skin condition (it is much easier to darken one's skin uniformly than to lighten it, so says my friend's wife who is a dermatopathologist).  I think he wishes he were white and 15, which makes it funny that he accused Tommy Mottola of Sony Records of being a racist, since MJ is whiter than any Caucasian I know.  I think he has huge psychological issues and he is the last person I would want my child around.

Having said all that, he is still innocent until proven guilty.  Also, the parents of this child need to be examined.  According to the news, the child's mother threatened to bring legal action some time ago, so Michael let the entire family stay at Neverland for several months, lavishing them with gifts and entertainment, in an attempt to convince them to dump the suit.

Now, if you believe that a man has sexually molested your child, why in the hell would you allow yourself or your child to remain in the same house with that man?  Is it all about money and presents and to hell with your child?  I think there is some serious smoke circling MJ and there's likely to be some fire as well, but the mother of this little boy is not innocent.  She has all the earmarks of an opportunistic gold digger and should at least be investigated for putting her child in a bad situation.
