I'm getting a new pc for christmas this year, and I would enjoy it more with an mmo to play. I already have WoW and I'm getting pretty bored with it. I like fantasy and pvp. Do you guys have any suggestions?
EDIT- DAOC sounds fun, but do I have to buy all the expansions too? Thats a lot of money Or do they have a bundle pack?

If you want fully free, i like Flyff, if you want to buy the game but not to pay monthly, Guildwars and if monthly fee, EVE Online (I dont know what games you like so... )
No Monthly Fee Fantasy PvP:
Guild Wars - Buy it from a shop then theres no monthly fees!
Monthly Fee Fantasy PvP:
Lineage ][ - Buy from a shop!
I don't know many cause I am from a different country so I don't know alot and my english is really bad I have lived in england for 2 years so far

Further proof you are enixryan, does anyone else say Lineage II as ][? Anyway, don't get Lineage II, full of tarded gankers who will PK you when you spawn a new character.
Also, Guild Wars sucks, don't buy it. I'd recommend, erm, nothing, because they all suck, wait a while, lots of new stuff is coming out soon.

No Userbar here, sorry to disappoint.
Holy shit we just had an earthquake and I was on the toilet nothing big luckily. Gotta love Cali
I highly suggest waiting, you'll be mad at yourself when you discover the games coming out next year that rip the guts out of all the games currently released.
Dungeons and Dragons online should be entering into Open beta around mid-January. It features twitch based combat, and most importantly thieves can be thieves (i.e. earn levels without having to massacre millions of people).
Hero's Journey will be released with its incredibly beautiful environments, and it was designed by MUD developers so you know its going to have a huge amount of gameplay.
Dark and Light, this game is still a little iffy; but you can shield sled, rid on dragons with free motion and paradrop. Thats really all it needs to be a cool game.
Ragnarok Online 2 will be getting more press; this is definetly a drool over game and you should check out the info in the Ragnarok Online forums about it. Gravity has had years in the business and really know what thier customers want; they are packing it into Ragnarok Online 2 with a 10+ million dollar budget.
Age of Conan and Chronicles of Spellborn should also be getting more press, and these games look better and better each time they announce what they have done with it so far.
Then there are a few other good mmo's like Webzens new line-up, but not as droolable as the 6 I mentioned.
I'm currently waiting on Roma Victor
i have a friend who played RO2. he said that R)2 is much like ROSE. please dont flame me... i dont like slow paced games.
IF youre a korean. i'd say go for GE(Granado Espada).
if not... try WoW, Guildwars, Final Fantasy XI, City of Heroes, Lineage ][
I am having the same dilemma, it seems. Some friends and I all want to get into a new MMO, but can't decide on one to commit to. The current games out there all have well-developed communities (read Tons of uber-characters and guilds). The games coming out in the next few months look awesome, especially SUN: Soul of the Ultimate Nation, Dark & Light, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. It's a tough decision to make, especially considering that most of these games charge a monthly fee. Maybe if we can clone ourselves and win the lottery, we can play all of them...
Until that happens, I am taking advantage of any open betas and free trials, so that I can get some hands-on time with the games before I commit to one. Good luck picking one!
If you have a healthy social life then stear clear from lineage 2. It takes like 20 hours of grinding to get one level, phueew.

he said fantasy MMOs guys lol
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Lets take a dart board.
See the Bullseye? That's a Non-fantasy MMO.
See every other section, and the wall? Those are Fantasy MMOs.

ok well since everyone dodged this... get DAoC. Yes, they have a pack that gives you all 6 expansions, and its called the Epic Edition. I know at my local EB it is set at 49.99 CND (Canadian Dollars that is) so if you live in the US its probably around $39.99.
If you enjoy PvP thats more than just "haha I ganked you sucka" then DAoC would be your game. On the classic servers everything is very balanced, and the RvR is very very good. We have many groups of organized RvR and public players are welcome.
Dont forget, if you look at the Darkness Rising screenshots, DAoC just got a graphical revamp a while ago... and it looks amazingly better (especially in the later levels, since thats all newer content).
I would definately recommend you DAoC for a while, and if you get bored of that check out D&D when it comes out.
EDIT: Woohoo 500th post!!!
Enigma you just can't fight em... the wave of eve fanbois GOING OFF TOPIC IN EACH GODDAMN THREAD!!
That put aside, you should check out 3 of the major Fantasy mmos, GW, WoW and DoAC. Technically, they're all good games, but since it's a subjective matter, you should try out the trials for each of them.

Guild Wars, World of Warcraft.. and as he stated "Dark of Age Camelot" are good games. He might like WoW... but I think if he has played MMOs before, it will bore him. Its good for newcomers, but it is rather lacking in anything above push, wait, kill, select. Oh... and if hes looking for PvP... whoops WoW offers nothing but battlegrounds, and not even that is balanced
DAOC has an "Epic edition" box that is about $39.00 at Target. I suspect you can find it anywhere, it's got every single current expansion in it and the standard 30 days of play.
I've tried every single MMORPG folks have mentioned thus far in this thread. DAOC would be my first choice over any that are mentioned. It's a solid game with a top notch company providing support for it. The only company as good as Mythic, imo, is CCP... and EVE just bored me to tears when I played it. Though the new patch coming out may bring some life to it. I'd recommend DAOC if you're out to buy one. But if you aren't getting it till christmas go ahead and download the free trial and know that when you buy the epic edition and install it you will find that the graphics are much better and the gameplay is even improved, it will also unlock 2 more class options in each realm.

what part of "I already have WoW and I'm getting pretty bored with it" don't you guys understand? and of course we'd have our EVE fanboys chiming in even though the guy specifically said fantasy...lol.
does anyone read any more?
I was just thinking the exact same thing. I have a feeling people mostly just read the last post or two and completely ignore the original. It's the only explanation.
I don't usually like Asian MMOs (hated Lineage 2... total gank fest, immature community, grind to be able to pvp way too long, etc) but that SUN looks rather interesting, even to me. Other than that... there is EQ2, which is your typical MMORPG and they have a ton of quests and decent crafting, if you're into that sort of thing. CoH/CoV are loads of fun for short periods of time. They don't have a lot of content other than combat and the quests are mostly so similar to each other that boredom sets in rather early. (at least it did for me) DAoC was always a decent game and it's run by a good company. The all in one deal is excellent.
Other than that, I'd have to go along with the crowd who says wait for one of the new ones to release. Other than a couple of closed beta tests, I've hit a brick wall with the games already on the market myself. The ones I've not played, I have no interest in.

I've beta'd many of the new ones... they ain't all that. People are way over-hyping them. Need an example? Look at what fans of irth were saying and now look at what it is. It just doesn't live up to the hype. In fact the devs know this fact SO WELL that they only offer a "trial" that lasts like 48 hours.
DAOC is the only really high quality fantasy MMORPG that I'd recommend. It's got everything. PVE - good content. PVP - best on the market for fantasy, imo. Crafting - decent. Questing - top notch. Community - First rate. Player housing: It's got it and it's decent. Not the BEST out there but better than EQ2 or WoW or Lineage 2 or even Horizons imo.
And it's got a 14 day trial you can play around with (as do many other options....) to get a solid feel for how you'd like/dislike the game. I'd rate the current crop of fantasy MMORPG's in this order for QUALITY (not quantity of players): DAOC, then EQ2 then WoW.... Then a whole slew of others.
Other than the CURRENT crop of MMORPG's I don't think there's a decent option on the horizon until Vanguard or Warhammer online is released. Neither of which is due out till some time in 2007 or 2008.

Personally, I think one of the reasons people enjoyed Horizons crafting so much was because of the exploration involved in finding resources. It was top knotch. As far as the actual crafting, it became tedious just as most do. I mean, they're all basically clicking buttons and getting the same old stuff. I think SoR actually allows for experimentation to get different results... very few MMOs support that.
I agree with what you've said about DAoC, Elnator... it's a solid game, good fun, has all the right elements. It's also made by one of the few companies that I admire. I don't play it anymore, but if one has never tried it, it's a good one to look at. Like you said, there's a free trial... in fact, most of the released games we've mentioned here have a free trial. It should be pretty easy, and even an interesting exercise if you have the time to try them all, to find something that suits you. Plus, I have to say it again... that all in one deal is great.
i played DAoC for about 1.5 years, back when it 1st came out. i recently tried it again with the trial and i don't remember the controls being so clunky and the graphics really need updated. after playing WoW and its its smooth controls and interface, i had a hard time trying to play DAoC again.
if they would fix that stuff and get more players i might play it again. The population is just too low for me to want to go back to it again. There's no way they'll ever get their population back though.
Ash:
Did you download the updated graphics engine for the trial? (no I don't know why they don't just include it ) The free trial is the old Isles trial. It's been recoded to allow you to USE the graphics updates with TOA but they're not in the trial. You have to download them. The TOA update REALLY spiffed up the graphics and the UI. It's MUCH better than the trial w/o them.
Anyone who tries the DAOC trial would be VERY well served to download the graphics engine update for it so you can experience the new graphics first hand. They re-did the ENTIRE game with them too. So the whole experience is improved.
Also: If you DO buy the whole game (epic box) you will find that the graphics are even better than the TOA enabled trial graphics even if you downloaded them. Because the Catacombs expansion improved on them again. I would rate DAOC's graphics as excellent. Not quite as good as EQ2 or Ryzom's but certainly very good in their own right.
