My husband and I played everquest for 4 and a half years. Sadly the day came where we put down our weapons and left Everquest for the last time. The game has changed to much, and the challenge is gone. Where do you play now. I have not been satisfied with what I have seen in other mmorpg's/ Any sigestions??? Thanks

Well, I played EQ from 2000-2004 and then stopped so i was in the same boat. I tried WoW, got to 60 in 5 months and left..I also tried DAOC and that game is pretty fresh as well but i left that too(that was 2 years ago that I tried it though so uhmm..it has probably gotten better). Yes i tried guild wars but meh...its not a full time game you can immerse yourself into. So as of right this second i am on a Private EQ server haha... Guess I couldn't help any.
Try DAoC though. its quite fun.

DAOC
I've played a wide wide variety and range of MMORPG's over the years. I recently came back to DAOC and it's better than it ever was in the past, in my personal opinion. I have fallen back in love with the only MMORPG that was able to tear me away from EQ1. DAOC.
As anyone on my server in SWG or even EQ2 would tell you if they knew me, my typical playtime was 1 or 2 hours a night. It still would be except that with DAOC I keep forgetting what time it is. Stayed up FAR too late last night playing.... my average playtime in All other MMORPG's: 1-2 hours a night
DAOC: 2-3 hours a night.
It's just sooo damn addictive. (for me 3 hours is a LOT of time in front of a PC after a day at work and evening watching the kids)

I know the flames are coming but I like EQ2. The familiarity of Norrath in a new package. Tried WoW, it is not a bad game but not as good as EQ2 IMHO. DAOC was fun but I just felt way too far behind everyone else for my level. I was starting my first char when many people were on their 3rd or 4th alt.
Try the free trials of EQ2 and WoW, and see what you think. It costs you nothing. Also Dark and Light looks like it has a lot of potential. Starting Dec 8th they will open up SoG which is a pregame Chapter to DnL. It is free and should give you a good look at it, they are not calling it a beta, but it pretty much is. Hey it is at least not like SOE where I payed to beta the game.
If you join EQ2, and want a tour guide, join the Lucan server, and look for Hjorvarr, Thamyras or Hawkins.
EQ2 is ok I guess but if you left EQ1 because the game lacked *challenge* then EQ2 is not a step you want to take. It's no more challenging than EQ1 is now. In many ways it's a lot less challenging.

playing WoW currently but I think it would be a good recommendation to wait for Vanguard made by the some of the same people who made the original EQ.
I'm hoping to get in the beta. Till then I'm loving DAOC

Played 9 months of WOW and now waiting DDO to hit the market
I have played it. It's not worth waiting for. Not for a monthly fee anyway.

Hmm tbh that end game challenge of EQ1 has not been been duplicated at all by any mmorpg to date.
WoW has a EQ like end game and tbh some of it actually requires tactics and good team work(very similar in short to EQ1) but the content like this is really so limiting i am sure you bore of it quickly.
EQ2 has more of this end game challenges espically if you in a guild but again no where near what u knew in EQ1.
So if i was to choose between this 2 games for challenge on the pve side i go with EQ2.
If the challenge you want is pvp based then DAoC.
We are all still playing EQ or a game that copied it and slapped another name on.
I played from about 2000-2003 and loved every minute. I haven't found a game yet that is as much fun as the original EQ but I know that someday, some company will make something original.
You know what i might be begininig to realize? Everquest was my first mmorpg to ever play and I played it for over 4 years. I moved on once it sort of got stale to me and I could never find anything that ever felt the same as EQ made me feel. I think its not "everquest" itself that i miss. Its the fact that it was my first mmorpg ever and that i got that rush playing it. Heck if i had played DAOC first, it most likely would have had the same effect and I would be yearning to play that game again...so yah, that feeling i lack will never be recreated...sorta sucks.

Really?
EVE is an EQ clone?
UO is an eq clone? - It came out before EQ, remember?
Ryzom is an EQ clone?
SWG was an EQ clone? (Even now after the Nuke the Game Experience, SWG is very unlike EQ)
Irth is an EQ Clone?
RV is an EQ Clone?
Planetside is an EQ Clone?
WWII Online is an EQ Clone?
All of the above games are VERY different skill and crafting systems from EQ. All offer far more features than EQ. The only real parallels that can be made between them and EQ is:
1) 3D Graphics Game
2) MMORPG
And if you are trying to say that Fantasy MMORPG's are EQ clones because you kill monsters on the ground and in dungeons then you may as well call all modern MMORPG's MUD clones. Or better yet, AD&D Clones.... or even Lord of the Rings Clones... which inspired AD&D
EQ was a good game... and UO and it combined to prove to game manufacturers that there was a huge market for MMORPG's which brought us to where we are today with millions of people playing them. But EQ isn't QUITE as prolific as people like to give it credit for. Yes, there are a LOT of EQ clones out there. But there are also UO clones and mixes of the two and entirely new concepts as well (EVE, Darkspace, Jumpgate and a few others)

I used to play EQ. Now I play Everquest II and I love it. It has much of what I loved from the original, with some new features that make it even better, in my opinion. I still miss the old, hardcore style of EQ, and I sometimes log in to EQ, but I spend most of my time playing EQ2, and I suspect that will continue for a long time. The game just doesn't lose it's appeal for me.
However, I am a Pioneer of Ganareth, and will be playing SoG. It will be interesting to see how SoG and DnL stack up with Everquest II, which I consider the best mmorpg on the market right now. (Yes, I played WoW, so before you flame, just know that I liked it, but not as much as EQ2).
Personally I rate DAOC a tad higher than EQ2 but EQ2 is a pretty decent game as well. Especially if you prefer PVE over PVP. If you like factional PVP there is no comparison, DAOC is the best out there (and I know some crazy EVE fanboi is gonna argue that point but EVE isn't really factional PVP it's open PVP).
