Don't Hate on GI Joe!!

I recently baby-sat my God-son who is 8.  Trying to amuse him as best as I could, I decided to go into the attic and pull out a box that I've had for more than a few years.

GI.Joe!!  My favorite passed time as a youngster.  I pulled out Snake Eyes, Duke, Shipwreck, ..hell I even had The "Refridgerator" Perry and Sgt. Slaughter (yay!).  They all brought back a since of nostalgia.  Now, I know I'm a grown man, who should be well beyond the attraction of such toys- but I allowed myself this one time to be a kid again....

So I pull the box down and take out the toys (action figures dammit!!) and go into the room where my Godson is watchin' t.v.  I said "Look!" "Look, what I've got!" I even went as far as to pull out the ol' transformers....oooo don't get me started on transformers.  After all that... after all my zest of spirit and all the juvenile excitement that glowed from me...

He looked at me, looked at the box, blinked, looked at me again and said...   you got poke'mon?

It's times like these when I start to really remember the old days.  I believe when I was real young I stumbled upon a GB game that was one of the first of the "Poke-mon" era.

    I HATED IT!!

Regardless, you might have noticed that I'm a new member here, but I wanted to take the time to share my thoughts on the subject.  Long live GI JOE, transformers and heman.

By the way, do either of you happen to remember "muscle men?"  the little pink action figures of which there were  close to 1,000+?

todays generation of kids has crap... stupid toys, and even more stupid tv to watch, mid 80's early 90's was the best, we had all the good toys and tv shows, i hate most kids these days to, they are all mostly little brats. there is a choice few that arnt but i would say more then 70% of the children ive seen these days i cant stand

ahhh muscle men, yes I remember those lil' pink wrestlers.  I always thought they looked like elaborate pencil erasers.  They even had they're own tv show I heard.

Try this one out... have you heard of those grotesque children on baseball cards called the "Garbage Pail Kids."  They even had their own gross movie!!

I was born a little after all the GI Joes and transformers, but I still grew up playing with my brothers old ones.  I used to have huge grand scale battles between heman, tenage mutant ninja turtles, GI joe, transformers and those little green army guys (I had about 500 of em' plus tanks and what not).  It was the coolest... Sadly I agree that kids nowadays are watching total crap nad whatnot... I remember when pokemon just came out... it was cool at first (trading card game) me and my frien went out and bout about 30 of them... about a year ago I sold 30 cards (all 1st edition) for about $400... I went back and figured out how much money I had mad and ith was somewhere in the ballpark of $350... imageimageimage  Anyway thats what I had when I was growing up...  I also had to walk 30 miles in the snow on broken glass with no shoes both ways to school everyday of the week, even if i was sick... ok maybe it wasnt that bad but you got the point young uns'. imageimageimageimage

    OOOOOOPPPPSSS!!!!

In addition to my absent-minded memory failure regarding Thundercats, there is yet another I have forgotten.

This will probably blow a lot of people's doors off!

    Anyone remember MASK?

  • DesperadoDesperado Member Posts: 467

Yes yes, I remember MASK.  Yet another cartoon/toy line that rocked but was widely overlooked and not given it's due.  Who could forget the morphin' vehicles w/their mask donning pilots, hell even the cartoon's theme music was cool.

Here's one for youze guys... anyone remember G-force or Star Blazers?

of course I rememeber Star Blazers.  those things were also amazing.

What I'm remembering is the MASK van that folded out on both sides to set up their operation/command center.  soooo awesome!

I hate to bring this one up, but there's was always the quick passing fads during childhood.  And by this I mean "pogs."  Those weren't that cool, but always good for a bit of nostalgia.

Ah nostalgia, i remember i used to have huge battles with my vast array of Star Wars action figures. I always thought Luke Skywalker was a bit gay so Chewbacca was always my hero image
