Lairs?

Hey all, I was just curious....the add says there are lairs availible now. Is that true? How are they working out?

Has it freed up some lots for the humaniods? Does this mean there may be dungeons coming? Will Dwarves be getting their mines or whatever it was that was planned? Just wondering...

Yes, lairs are now available, all across the gaming world.  There are guild lairs as well as individual lairs available.  They come in different sizes, but all of them are big enough to fit most of what you'd need.

My lair is located on the frozen northern continent, and I'm slowly working on it, digging out chambers and storage areas for later structures.

Yes, I'd say that it has freed up some plot area for biped use.  Not sure exactly how much, though.

Dungeons is another matter.  The system for constructing lairs can be applied to the construction of dungeons, however there are still some aspects of mob AI, and how the perceive the world around them, that must be worked out.  Two big things are: Line of sight and collision detection.

The dwarves and their underground housing.  By that you're talking about racial housing.  Yes, that is on their to-do list.  As are dryad "tree houses," which are basically lairs built above the ground.

They've brought on additional help lately, so the developers can focus on adding more content and new features.

    Thanks,

I was wondering. Dungeons are one of those key things missing in Horizons. I played this summer and it was fun but it did still feel incomplete. (I also did not care for the fact that once you switch a class you had to start from level 1 again....and again.....and again, talk about grind and Yes I play Lineage 2 lol)

They need dungeons. How they overlooked the collision detection in the first place and why they have not "express" fixed it yet is beyond me.  I guess they simply do not have the resourses to fix it yet.

The game would be vastly improved with the addition of some dungeons.

(please, no one go into the old dead horse about how evil DB is, that is such a wore out, tired story)

Once the finish adding the rest of the missing lair content and work out the buggs they will add the  Lybraths  and doungens that have BEEN in gakme but have not been used since  lairs were not inplamented.  there are  hundreads of miles of tunnels under the map not being used mostly becuse the upper content for them have not been placed into game yet due to the missing dragon content. but there now working on that with the introduction of lairs. you can go to the community site and see whats on there test lists and what there working on.

that sounds pretty cool and all but this game still doesn't have what everyone who tried it 2 years ago wanted... Dungeons, epic end game bosses, and droppable rare loot you can actually equip.. Until they put this stuff in,no one will play this game.. There is no real reward other than crafting and creating your own fortified structure.. While that takes alot of time and patience,it certainly is not "fun"

Without a true world model they will never have dungeons. On your computer the world is rendered in 3D, but it is 2D on the server, and as such mobs do not recognise 3D barriers to movement. They pass through walls, up slopes, in a way players cannot. It prevent players from exploiting mobs by shooting at them through a wall, or down a slope, but also prevents mobs being placed in a dungeon. They will simply attack through the wall, or from the other side, so you can't fight back, and you'll aggro 20-30 mobs at once, from ALL directions.

The lair technology is part of paving the way to actual dungeons. Frankly, I could care less, becuase there's plenty to fight & kill already. I started running D&D games in 1978, and one of the first things I learned is that a dungeon is one type of adventure, but far from the only type.

Dryad trees, dwarven underground houses, modular biped housing, and even the long-awaited castles - the lair technology opens the door to all of them. Not this quarter, probably not for at least six months. The lair system is really an impressive piece of work, and offer dragons a lot more than the 'floating island' lairs would have.
