You need to understand that most people aren't as stupid as you. Everyone knows that SoG, for all intents and purposes, is DnL. No one is going to buy some lame excuse that if SoG sucks it's only because they haven't released all the cool stuff they are working on in beta.
Only fanbois such as yourself get caught up in hype and promises. The rest of us play the game and make our decision based on first hand experience.
They don't need to come out and say that SoG is the beta of DnL because everyone already knows it.

well, it is 5:00 pm (17:00 UTC) now and the server is still down... so they didn't keep their 2pm deadline (unless it came up and went back down again which I have no way of knowing...) image

Due to some data synchronization delays, we have to defer the SoG launch to 2:00 PM (UTC) [Monday 12th December].
We are very sorry of this delay. Thank you for your continued support. More about Settlers of Ganareth download, (mettre le lien)

They moved that 2pm deadline to 3pm then moved that to 4pm and now we are at 5pm and awaiting a 5th deadline.

Ah, okay, I should have known it was something like that... forums down now so people can't talk and the chat room is moderated so people can't talk so I guess they just don't want people to have a voice at all... image

The new and improved 5th deadline is 18:30 GMT or 10:30 am pst.  According to some posts on the forums the free accounts will ahve their access pushed back by however much the pioneeer launch is delayed.

We are now one hour and 20 minutes past the their 5th missed deadline of the day and the forum servers have now been down over an hour.  Its been almost 10 hours since the servers were supposed to open and there does not appear to be any hope in sight.

My expectations were low for SoG and DnL.  They got lower after the pre-order fiasco and even lower after the last second delay on the 8th.  But I could have never imagined anything this bad.  This is beyond pathetic.  Shadowbane and AO had probably two most unstable and laggiest betas of any game.  But at least they could bring up their servers.  At  least the devs there would communicate if they could not meet a deadline.  They just did not leave people hanging for 10 hours on end.  They did not pull last second cancellations.  They did not do their best to antagonize and inconvience their playerbase.  They could keep thier forums working when they had more than 500 people using it.  Yes my expectations were very low 10 hours ago but I was still excited to play SoG.  The way they treat their customers...I mean abuse their customers is much more troubling to me than the expectations of a poorly made game.

At some point the fanboys will rise up and stop defending these people and teach them that manners, politeness, courtsey and caring for your customers needs should be an essential part of customer service.  This game had a lot of potential not because of anything the devs have done but rather in spite of the devs.  They have a very understanding, believing and enthusiatic fanbase which will at some point just plain run out of patience and move on to be victimized by another game.

Here is hoping we see a 6th deadline soon.  Maybe one they can meet.

Warning: a technical problem (MySQL server) prevents access to this part of the site.

    Thank you for your understanding.

Yep you said it. It's the straw that broke the camels back for alot of people I think. I've paid my damned 60 + VAT so I've got to at least see if they actually get there server up. ::::27::

I will say, Sony could have had this game already running by the first deadline. Or like my some say, They should be like sony and just release it ::::35:: .

1 Positive thing : They are not rushing they are taking thier time, only to help stop of making another mess...

You do realize that you're a fanboi, right?
Lemme do the math just to make sure I am correct:

You've been following the game obsessively
You post constantly about the game.
You refresh the official DnL forums looking for up to the minute info like a crack ho in heat.
You seem genuinely upset that you couldn't log in to play today.

Yes, it all adds up. You're a full- fledged fanboi. You therefore lose the right to refer to other people as fanbois in a derogatory manner unless you also include yourself in that group .
    Thank you.

Ignoring all the lame ass comments about who's a fanboi vs. hater, the thing that is bothering me most is the communication. Delays I can handle, buggy servers I can handle. I played on Icecrown on WoW and for the first 6 months or so, Icecrown lagged and crashed quite a lot (four times in one night, was the record for me crashing). Anyway, all this I can handle. Even the beta/not-beta status of SoG. But what is really turning me off about them is the communication. Don't freaking set a deadline unless you are at least 90% sure you can keep it and if you can't keep it, be up front and honest about it. Post the problems. Tell us what is wrong and what's going on. All the speculation and flaming that is going on because of the silence is just as frustrating as not having an actual game to play. And it certainly feeds into a negative mentality if you have to guess what's going on without any facts.

The last time I was able to get into the forums (at work, using dual DS3 lines), the forum showed 1207 people logged in, and 32 moderators. It took almost 3 minutes for the forum page to load, and about that long to get into English-General.

Now, forum and home page fail to load.

You are right, I have visions of utter failure. I doubt now that the server will even be up today.

If there were smart, they would isolate the server segment from the internet, bring it up, make sure it was stable for local play, then bring it on line. But that's what an experienced IT Professional would do, which obviously NP Cube isn't.

I have to agree. Evidently, the wee bits of information that trickle in come from people watching the irc channel. It shouldn't be that way. The information people need should be on the website, in a place where it is easily found. Most everything I know to this point has been posted by just regular people who have taken on what seems to be the overwhelming task of trying to sort through the fog. It really is rather unprofessional. I'm just someone who picked up a freebie SoG thingy, though, so at least I haven't invested any money in it. I'm sure those people are wanting information a lot more than me.

I am a  fan of DnL not a fanboy.  The difference is I don't let hope and blind faith form my opinons rather I look at the evidence and make decisons based on what I see, hear and smell.  I have followed the game for 4+ years.  I am an educated realist not a fanboy.  Unlike many fanboys I don't troll the forums to make personal attacks against others rather I offer reasoned and well informed opinons backed with something more than mere hope.  I may be wrong and I hope I am about DnL but I don't take it personally. Despite my low expectations for DnL I still hope I am wrong and it turns out to be a quality game.  best of luck to you and I hope you and everyone enjoys SoG.

It's common for MMO companies to dump an annoucement in a forum or somewhere obscure and not be forward with it to people that don't wish to keep up with the forums or other means that they use. Many people don't know about IRC, don't want to deal with it, or just don't get into the game at such a level that they have to not only play the game but keep up with the news of it all day long on the web.

It's really unacceptable but accepted none-the-less these days. In SOG's defense, if your signing up or this you probably do keep up with all those things however I am fairly certain this practice will continue once the game goes to the shelves and your getting the average MMO player that doesn't keep up with forums and chatrooms.

I am Ultima-Fanboy, stop bitching about my game you son of a bitch!

Seriously, you guys are detracting from the topic, back on topic people :)

BOT, I think many mmos had delays with their first day openings though so this was pretty much a given anyway.
