Question about Ranger Job

Could you please tell me more about the Ranger's ability to track and the ability to harvest resources from the land (how these actually work in the game)?

When you pull up the map you can see all the mobs within a certain range.  You can pick a mob and track it.  The mob will remain on your mini map (outside the large map screen) for as long as you wish or until it is dead.  Very useful for hunting large spawn area NMs.  Also useful when pulling mobs to your xp camp.

As for harvesting resources,  you get the scavenge command.  This job ability can be used once every five minutes and digs up a random item from the ground.  The items that can be dug up depends on the zone.  It is one of,  if not the most useless job ability in the game.

Actually, it's not so random. You get ammo, or items that can be used to craft ammo. Boxes of old (and inferior) arrow or bolts, firesand for bullets, arrowheads, lumber and fletchings to make arrows...the lumber can actually be worth a bit of cash, as can the firesand, but not a whole lot, and the rest of it is pretty worthless. You won't find nearly enough to keep you supplied, but if ammo's running low, it might help you stretch things out.

Also, there's a little compass rose in the lower left of the screen, shows you which way you're point. It also shows the position of nearby PCs and NPCs relative to you. It only shows the position of nearby mobs if you're one of the jobs that qualify for that "radar": less than half of them do. Ranger is one that does. This is an excellent companion to Widescan (the only other job to have Widescan is Beastmaster and BST's Widescan has a shorter range), as it keeps you continuously aware of all the mobs close enough to be a threat (or for you to be a threat to them).
