Yet another Lineage 2 clone?

TsuwamonoTsuwamono Member Posts: 18

Hello.
Once again, the graphics looks simply beautiful but telling out of experience, there isn't much more to these kinds of games but the actualy good looks. So I wonder: Is this game really based on the old "grind and boast" scheme? Does it provide a ground for roleplay? (Lineage 2 sure didn't. Partially thanks to the more or less bad community). Is the game attractive to mature minded people?

Maybe some of you know alot more about the game than I do, so I would like to dedicate this to those who have had or have the chance to take a look inside.

I have stated this before, in screenshots the game does bear a striking resemblance to Lineage 2. Especially the Cora race, which looks a lot like Lineage 2 light elves. However, in realiity, the game looks nothing like Lineage 2. In fact, in my estimation, the actual game looks more like World of Warcraft than Lineage 2.

As for the game itself. It is in beta, and I played the Phillipines Beta for many hours over a several days. When compared to the Lineage 2 beta, RF online is just a joke. The graphics are nowhere near being in the same league as Lineage 2. Not even close.

The gameplay, for me, was the biggest disappointment. It was just very uninteresting. Kill this many of this - kill that many of that. Hack/slash . . rinse . . repeat. Yes, Lineage 2 is the exact same way. However, as far as questing and hunting there is no difference.

Still, MOST MMO's have quests like this, so it should not be a surprise.

This game isn't so much an RPG type MMO from what I have seen, granted take that with a grain of salt, as I have yet to play it, I've only been researching it on various web sites and forums.

It's closer to planetside in the concept.  You have PVE for character leveling, but the main focus of this game is on the race wars; massive battles for control of the Talic mines.  There are benifits to the entire race for winning, as well as benifits to the individuals who are allowed to mine while their race has control.

The community for the North America/ UK servers seem to be rather adult minded, and exceptionally friendly and helpful.  I have heard a lot of complaints about the community in the phillipines beta though, but have no idea how accurate that is.

This game looks like Guild Wars. Just press skill/move buttons and that is about it.

well all in all. ALL MMOs are the same. RF is amongst the MMO Genre, as is L2, EQ2 etc etc. However, different elements seperate each game, making them unique in there own way.
RF is the first to bring out a 3 factioned, PvP, Mecha Sci-Fi game. It won't be the last. As rumor has it, Mech Warrior is coming out with a MMO. Or so, it was an idea that was spread out E3.

Is RF another L2? I would say RF is the future of L2. Quite litterally speaking

I think the only thing it has in common is the anime style grafix/look of the game, by the look of it this it will not be another lineage2 clone ( we all hope)::::20::

You see, that's the thing. The only thing that is more or less new is the mech-sci fi themed atmosphere. The war between 3 faction has already been in MMO worlds for a time now. Dark age of Camelot for example. What I am actually aiming for in MMOs is the roleplay and the overall content. The only asian MMO(RPG) where that applied well was CoH/CoV.
All in all though, there seems to be nothing new in RF online.

Are you talking about NA here?...you've gotz to be kidding!

I too agree that the screenies they've put up are beautiful...but I'm so worried that rfo will be another L2 clone. If you think about it, it was created and released just a bit after L2 in the asian markets. Though its english release will be Spr of 2006 (yes, it will have been in the asian markets for almost 2 yrs by Spr 2006), no novel gameplay/concept was created in that short time. But I am very intrigued and drawn to the fantasy-gundam aspect :)

One thing's for sure...you can't plvl like in L2 lol

Lets hope this game isnt another Lineage clone.  Im kind of pissed with all the upcoming asian games now.  They have all have grind fest, open pvp, experience debt gameplay style.  All three of them that would drive me away from an online game.  I hope asian game makers would understand NA/Europe game style and would adjust them for our market.

We would need to wait and see what kind of game RF online is once it comes out.

Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

Post just proves how uninformed you are. Comparing DAOC RvRvR to RFO's FvFvF. Proves you probably don't know much about either game.

Next you called CoH/CoV an asian MMO? LOL The game was published by an Asian Company, but the guys that developed it. Aren't asian, nor is their company.

    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Lineage2: The pvp aspect of this game is based on OPEN pvp. You can attack anyone and everyone should you feel the need to cause grief on others. L2 also has experience debt when you fall to another player. If you decide to go out and hunt lowbies for fun, you would take a huge Karma hit, IF your opponent did not attack back.
In RF, the pvp set up is based on three factions. If you're alligned with a certian faction, there is no PvP with your own kind. Reason being, is that the devs wanted to you to work together as a race. RF is about war between the three factions. If you were to go out and hunt lowbies in RF, there is no Karma. And there is no experience debt should you fall.
However, RF also added a status to PvP. If you are good at the class you play, and are lucky enough to get the death blow on other players, you would get status for that kill. These points ranges anywhere from 10-2000pts. all depending on the level of player you had killed. These status points will benefit you further down the line in the game. The rewards of being a team player and a killer of your enemies will allow you to access certian things. ie, Equipting Epic armor (making you even more powerful), World wide chat with your faction (this is granted to only the top 10 players I believe). If you are amongst the top 5, you will be given a proper title of leader. Is this title stated? I don't know. But it's an insentive for PvP.

L2's similarties with RF is only the graphics.

I would say pvp in this game is VERY similar to pvp in WoW pre-battlegrounds. Only there are 3 factions instead of two. There is a lot of group vs. group fighting as you level up in areas (similar to WoW). However, then there is the chip war. The chip war pvp surpasses any other pvp of a game I have played as of yet. Giant mechs, angel winged faction leaders, massive explosions. Pure chaotic mess... its fun..

  • DakkanonDakkanon Member Posts: 289

Well, the starting stages of RF will be war over the mines. This is key for the success of any race.

All other PvP will be about raiding a small group that's farming exp. Jumping a lone wanderer who's seeking experience. and the occational, guild wars.

    Structered Chaos= Loads of fun.

I agree dakkanon, its when pvp turns into structered tournament style (WoW battlegrounds, Guild Wars)..when pvp starts getting repetitive and boring.
