Looks like some people had fun on the first day, if they got in ;)

After reading some posts on other forums, it appears that many of the ones that actually got in generally liked what they saw, and had fun

One reasonably indepth review I found was from Malais image

Malais wrote:

"Ok now that I actually got ingame it is pretty cool.

First :

Frame rates suck. Period. I'm getting less than 6 FPS. There are too many people too close together. Once you get away from towns it runs at a nice 20+ however there are no low level mobs away from towns, so hence the low rates.

Second :

Flying is where it's at. Part RPG, Part Flight sim. Flying the dragon is great, you can sore through clouds, and dive at players/mobs.
The dragons wings flap and the flight graphics are incredible.

Third :

Graphics are excellent. You have to set the engine high, and crank up the effects, but spells and just general items are... wow. Like AC1 was for it's day.

Forth :

Mobs are few and far between.

Fifth :

Commands suck, and numerous spelling errors, such as Ennemy. Minor gripes, expected for a Beta.

Sixth :

Somehow the whiners and B's from the forums got in and flood general chat with complaints and pointless questions that are answered if they would just read the chat.

Final Reveiw :

C-

With all the delays, problems and horrid unplayable frame rates, I really don't want to see what it's like tom.
However that said, it is still going to be a great game, just not yet."

this game has been in developement for over 3 years, to be honest it looks like it was thrown together in a few days. people are saying its early stages, hardly early stages after 3 years of developement, dnl wont look much better than this in april. to summerise, this game is awful, even worse than i thought it would be, avoid it at alll costs.

For a small inexperienced Dev team, 3 yrs may feel like 3 months

Yeah everyone one just loves the game, that is why it dropped from first to fifth in a matter of hours on the most anticipated list. Give it up Blacksac the time when a couple of pretty screen shots and a positive spin post could save the game is past. Ok so the Dev team is small and they gave it a nice try, but most do not expect to be paid for nice tries, only results. Maybe they can sell what they accomplished to some other company who can finish it.

Didn't SWG take 3 years to develop? And it was far from the finished product when it went live!

To those of you slating the game before giving it a chance, whats your problem with this game? Are you somehow bitter that a small company can produce a MMORPG with the potential to be better than WOW.

I'm not a fanbois, I accept that there is a chance that this game will suck, but the signs are there that it could also be very good, and I'm at least going to play it for a while before flaming it, and people saying anything positive about it, without really knowing what the hell Im talking about.

SWG was one of the worst MMOs ever.

I can't recall blacksac ever putting spin on anything. The only thing I can ever recall him doing is sharing the information that has been put out and letting everyone make up their own mind.

If i had to rate SOG on a 10 scale i would give it a 4 max 5 in it's current state.

Why compare to one of the worst MMOs? Why not compare to one of the best MMOs?

Personaly, Im disappointed not becuase of the bugs and not even that much because of delays but rather because devs put a pretty big price tag on a product thats in alpha stage. I realy hope they can realease a final and complete product by April, I realy do. I like the art behind this game, and it "feels" like it may have crafting similar to Horizons, but it also feels like the team behind DnL will end up just like Horizons dev team - feeding the public crappy and incomplete product. It was so sad to watch Horizons go.

I am so happy I didnt preorder DnL. I will definitely try to get into a free trail, but untill there is a significant improvement, I doubt this game will go anywhere far. I hope all the money from the preorders will give a nice boost to the dev team and they hire more programmers. It feels like they need a lot of help.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

i am a pioneer and the game actually suck. Too less mobs and the main problem of the game is the performance. I must actually play with low details and its lags like hell with 2 fps? I started then to attack a spider yesterday and died?

Thats a bug which has since been fixed. They are still having mega issues with log on, but this is the most strained time the sog servers will ever face (until the next lot of key releases)

you know i hear alot of people out there dogging this game and they have "MAYBE playied for a small amount of time from what i have heard all new games have bugs, and yes maybe they are a small company but isn't that why they are having  a tough time addressing these issues i'm sure they are work as hard as they can to get this game up and running i think we all need to help them not give them a hard time they are learning as they go and from experiance i know that being the new guy on the block isn't easy but i'll put my stock in a small company anytime  they will work hard trying to please us and as for the forums and tech support i agree they need to keep us up to speed on the problems and to help us with are issues as well but still all good things come to those who wait and these guys have a real winner here and the worst thing they could do is sell it to a company that would ruin it by changing things to make it work for example change things to make a pretty easier game to play so that they get the good review and people may give them kudos but what did we give up getting that i would rather have months of bad lag bugs crashes and stuff to get the game these guys are working on and not just have a game that plays well

Well JD the game dropped in hypage yesterday when AD and Farlan messed around for 20 hours with logins before anyone could get in.

Simple fact is that the overwhelming response on most boards and IRC is a positive one. Its basic, but its fun basic stuff. I agree it's looking on par with horizons at the moment, but with the inclusion of crafting and decent pvp I think it'll give it the individuality it needs.

Its fun, not life altering, but fun. So your doom and gloom was a bit heavy handed.

As for the FPS complaint, try it on different settings, mine runs faster on 4 than it does on 2 cause it seems better optimised. I get 15-20 (its capped at 25) and I'm very happy.

The complaint about mobs is utter BS there are LOADS of spawns, but you have to spend upto 4/5mins looking for them. Those complaining are running into the mob spawn visible from the start location. With 8000 odd people logging in of course that place is going to be hell. EXPLORE.

My biggest sadness is the lack of any social xp stuff.
