Wanted to let all those that are playing world of warcraft and guild wars know, that eve online is much more fun in my opinion, and it's the long awaited change I've been looking for from the typical mmos. World of Warcraft was a decent mmo I have a lvl 60 ne rogue named Darkwhispers on Warsong server, however the game really loses it's appeal once you've played for about 6 months straight, I've been playing eve-online for quite some time now, and I haven't lost interest in it (hasn't been 6 months yet, though). I've beta tested guild wars and played it after release a bit, it's really dull, I kept going back to world of warcraft. I've played mmos such as Ultima Online (back in september of 97), Everquest, everquest2, shadowbane, horizons, daoc, matrix online, city of heroes/villains (and the obvious: wow, and guild wars). I merely listed all the mmos for those who might underestimate my knowledge of mmos. I just wanted to share my thoughts on eve w/ everyone, I really enjoy it and I'm certain most old school mmo players will.

Too much waiting in the game. I also had a hard time finding bad guys to fight, some places were just empty and it was annoying to blindly hop place to place praying. Mining is like waiting for paint to dry, and guess what you get to do after you mine??? More traveling.

But that is Eve, waiting, patiently to fly through space to get to your location and mine, or deliver the precious blue prints or new chemical weapon, recieving your cash reward, start flying home again..
But it's not ment to be like your common D&D set up as all the 'fantasy' mmorgs's are (including WoW) There's no monster grinding for constant action, there is no 'training' grounds. You go around in your designated or happily bought ship doing your own thing, from being in the empty 0.5 space where you are constintly protected by massive navy ships of your allocated empire, to 0.0 space where 90% of people under 3 months won't venture because that is where the true pirates lie, the essence of space warfare. You did not get far enough out of the protected lmits of your empire to take on the 0.0 outer limits space. Eve is not your customary slash, loot, slash, loot, level up, slash, loot, etc; MMORG it is a patience game where once you get a frigate and another 4-5 guys you can take on a cruiser and win, killing a 1 year player, what other game allows in an effort, 'n00b' players to kill the top ones without having to have 30-40+ people?
You my friend, don't understand Eve for what it is, or how it's played. Saying that it is boring cause you couldn't find anyone to kill is laughable, and going by what I read, you were probably still in the NPC insurance n00b ship, you would of been wiped the floor with in seconds if you tried to fight anyone.
No flaming ment but, when you state the features a game that it deliberately does not have as its demeanors(sp?) You appear to have a lack of real MMORG understanding, or any patients.

I think I did understand what the game is about and I found it boring. I didn't have a n00b ship so I could fight and I did sometimes when I got lucky and found a pirate or whatever you call em. What I was trying to say is, they aren't scattered about like in most games and so the travel to time to find them was annoying. I did find them but it took patience and I got bored finally.
You are enjoying the game and thats great but I just can't pay $20 plus $15 a month for it. If it was free I would probably be playing it right now.

Yep the actual play to waiting ratio is like 10:90.

I heard a rumor the other day about Eve. I was eating a slice of pizza in a pizzeria called the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and two guys at the next table started laughing. One of them says, while chewing a bite of a calzone, "Eve sucks!" and they both crack up again. Now the other guy emits a thunderous burp, slams his hand down on the table and says "Totally sucks!" More laughter follows. Even the pizza guys behind the counter were laughing.
Maybe they were talking about a person named Eve, though.
EvE... The only game that allows you to play 10 accounts at the same time and still manages to keep you waiting and bored...
It's the first MMOWG (Massive Multiplayer Online Waiting Game)!
Fail for trolling.
What did you expect from a space game anyway? Adventure around every corner in the vast emptiness of nothing?
I don't think that it's the best one out there, however I do think that it's one of the best mmorpg's I've played in terms of game content, music, and immersion and I'm talking about when it first came out of it's beta stage.
Very rarely do I play a mmorpg that requires me to pull out a calculator or a note pad, even more so when I played Eve I found myself using up whole note books for everything from trade runs to sniper hunting in PvP. I still have very many memorable experiences that will last my lifetime from this game. While the game had it's own issues back then and I went through all the various emotional levels of being a happy gamer to being a pissed off subscriber at times, Eve in some ways made me learn about myself a lot though I didn't realize it early on.
Ask youself, when was the last time you've played a game that raised your heart rate up considerable. I remember lots of time in Eve that I found myself yelling out in the middle of the night at my pc screen telling my shields to hold or my after burner to boost my ship faster while jumping a gate in 0.0 in a hauler full with precious ore. When you spend time and effort in a game that sometimes takes you a month or so and all you've worked so hard for is literally on the line about to be destroyed forever, then you will respond the same way.
One thing that I like about Eve is that the Devs have never given up on the game even though they are boxed in so to speak with regard to content that they just are limited to put in the vast emptiness of space. The Devs have asked for players feedback numerous times and they have seriously taken one of my suggestions of placing in planetary rings and surface effects back when in the Genesis release.
The music of the game is still good. It sure helped me when mining in solitude at times or with friends also helped with I got bored in 0.0 between PvP downtimes.
Eve-Online, EQ2, DnL, SWG (Dead), Guild Wars, Anarchy Online, EQ, DAoC, Planet Side, WoW, LOTR, Tabula Rasa.
It's not so much that I don't like the waiting in EVE. I actually like everything about Eve, except that it's a game based on PVP (wich I LOVE) and at the same time having a horrible combat exprience. Better ship always wins, to get a bettr ship you have to play Eve the longest, so the longest time player wins. How ghey is that?
A Work in Progress.

its the best game ever!!!!!!!
Man I want to play EvE. I downloaded the free trial, but want to have a few hours to play at one time. <sigh>
Hope to see some of you there,
Daines
Eve owns all other MMO's and I've played my fair share and beta tested many more. It is in fact a true MMO in which almost all game aspects revolve around the players.
