...crap, that just plays into the racism theory.

Big Trouble in Little China is also racist. There are only whites and asians, no black people. WTF!

Dis_Ordur I think you misunderstand the ideal of fantasy movies.. they are depicted from the books. its like saying why dont they have a white person play the lead character in a biography about a black person.. when the books or stories were written they didnt have black people intended for those roles.. now you want them to change the story to be more PC? god then lets go through every movie made and change it so we can make the world a better place. make sure we have one of every race and ethnicity in every movie. its like having a white person play an asian part or a black person playing an asian part.. it doesnt fit for what was intended.. its not racism. the whole concept that anyone would think Peter Jackson is racist is quite frankly retarded. people just looking for attention .. end of story!!

I don't know, was John Wayne's casting as Ghengis Khan racist or just horrid. (Fun fact, most of that movie was shot on a nuclear testing ground, and is probably responsible for Wayne's cancer, which led to his death. It really was the stupidest movie he's ever done.)

I think what we have to do is EMBRACE Racism -> listen to this...
I say we EMBRACE Racism, accept the fact that EVERYONE is different, accept people for who they are, external and internal.... Love people for their differences and their quirks, I say just love every one despite them being a different shade than you. Love them if they are wearing a turban, or a parka, or a kimono, or a toga....
I think when we can say YES!!! people are DIFFERENT You are WHITE i am BLACK you are YELLOW I am RED when we can say this and love each other for it... then we have broken racism...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On a off topic note: I'm black and I was travelling on the greyhound bus and I found a mormon christian children's picture book telling about the bible. I had nothing else to do so i read through it. Now after a while started noticing something strange maybe you can notice where i'm going with this...

Adam was white, Eve was black
then Adam was black when he left eden.
Able was white, Cain was black
Noah was white, the people that didn't believe were black
Samson was white, Delilah was black
David was white, Goliath was black
In the depiction of the 10 commandments there was a picture of ->
------Black man stealing from a white woman and her kid
------Black man killing another black man
Jesus and the Desciples were white, Judas was black
The soldiers that put Jesus on the cross were black...

Now usually I'm not one to see these things... but as I was turning through the pages it just felt wierd until I realized what I was seeing... AS SOON as i figured it out... i just cracked up laughing... I was like that is soo sad, that while maybe not intentional, that this image was kinda protrayed... and that was a children's book.[/b][/quote]

Mormans are generally weird in my opinion. well if you go to church 7 days a week, well i think its kind of brainwashing cult( don't get me wrong all religions are essentially cults) and it probably is a subliminal message. (plz don't take offence from me if your morman i'm just a dumb athiest) I don't really care about racism I don't think people should take offense to any word (there just words). I don't care if a person is black, brown, white, yellow, red, purple, or even blue. if there a jackass or just plain out stupid i think i have the right to hate them

I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people

Mormons are very racist against blacks.  I dislike mormons very much.  And that's all i'm gonna say about that.

Technically it's not seen as racist if you look at it though another point of view. (I'll try to put this in good words being that I just woke up). Every day, every month is a white day, a white history. You really have to learn about the history of black history. They basicly got the month to have time where the ways, thoughts and ideas of blacks can be learned and . . . .damn I'm sleepy.

My main point is it's not seen as racist if you look it though yourself. If you passed grade school, I don't think you would see it that way. (not an offence)

No, this whole "He had to be true to the books" argument is flawed big time...  All of these movies in question are adaptations, not an actual retelling of the story word for word as in the books...  Jackson has to come up with 'filler' and creatively present movies outside of the realm of what exists cover to cover in the books...  So why not make Boromir and the descendants of Rohan a darker skinned race?  Hell, you could even make the dwarves black if you wanted too...  Fantasy allows for such deviations, becuase it is purely a fantasy driven world, and the minute details of skin color mean nothing in a fairy tale world...  I might even be a little more convinced now that Riki disclosed that there aren't any black people in King Kong either...  NY in the 1930's had beacoup black people, granted most were in Harlem or the Bronx, still, plenty of black people to be found...  Regardless, I am super stoked to see this filck, I predict it to be one of the best movies of all time, plus Naomi Watts makes me get down to my knees and thank god that I am a man...

On a different note, Brian DePalma, who has done some fantastic movies, has also been labeled a racist too (and may have even admitted it himself, can't remember)...  Remember 'The Untouchables'?  Not one black person to be found, yet it is set in Chicago during the prohibition era...  In fact, AMC does their TV DVD specials where they have the comments at the bottom of the screen, and this was noted that black people were questionably absent in almost all of DePalma's flicks...  Same goes for Jackson...

I wish Razorback would confirm that New Zealanders and Australians harbor greater racism than most developed countries...  He of all people would know...  RAZOR!!!  WHERE YOU AT FOO?!?!?!?!?!?

first off its obvious a lot of the posters here done understand tolkein.

Every single culture has its myths and legends and in each one of these legends they feature people of that race.

tolkein basically studied english(brittish), norse, and all anglo saxan literature.

he is writing to put it crudely cultural literature for the anglo saxon culture. that being said i dont think anyone should be offended when the whole cast of lord of the rings is white. its Anglo Saxon mythology its not racism its just a story about that group of people.....

and in King Kong he didnt mean to be racist by not casting any black people. but people the original was done in the 1930's when the actors were all white and he is just trying to stay true to his favorite movie. I mean he was casting to people who would play those exact characters and when you change the race you change the character.

peter Jackson is not racist or he would be kicked out of the screen writers guild, directors guild etc. at the slightest hint of racism

Yes, excuse me. I mis-interpreted your reasoning behind the post.

I love Jackson's flicks, but when you start talking about the representation of all types of peoples in movies, Jackson's movies fail in this respect...  Like it or not, we are heading towards globalization at a blistering pace...  Seems like you are the one getting worked up here...

When you have PC shoved down your throat every whichway, everything offending someone, somehow, and it somehow becoming taboo.

It's getting absurd, and absurdity annoys me, and when I'm annoyed, I can seem "worked up"

"We need a third world war"?  You must be some anarchist horomone filled teenager...  We seriously do not need WWIII...  I think you are in the minority here with that perspective...

We have a certain type of society, and have had a certain facet of society, for the past thousands of years that have made War a necessity for key times, or to "mix the batter".

Now as for me being serious or not. Well of course I am, because a couple of people whine that King Kong is racist, I think we need a third world war.image

You see there? its all about how you word things. At any rate the movie if about a 30ft tall monstah! if unless your ones of thoes don't be offended, and if you are? well...have mercy on me!

Anybody that has seen King Kong knows that one of the main characters is a black person. Evan Parke, which plays the Skipper.

They never say how they get King Kong to New York. Probably made some giant raft or something out of trees, and hauled him that way. There is no way in hell they could get him in the bottom of their ship.

one of the main characters was black (reminded me of zefar(sp) from Soul Calibur III...the guy with the scythe. anyway the issue with me is that no blacks was in New York but there was an Island full of em. It just looks segrated to me in a way. I thought New York was pretty mixed back in those times (still a little racism but mixed).

. . . .that is not even what the argument is about. Your just basicly telling the whole movie in a paragraph. Read those 5 pages man if you want in on this.

BTW, I saw KK two nights ago, very badass flick!  One of the best monster flicks I have ever seen...  Anyways, there was plenty of Black representation in this movie, hell, one of the main characters aboard the ship was very much black indeed...  So I strike all of my previous arguments regarding Peter Jackson and his representation on minorities.  I WAS DEAD WRONG...  Carry on...

Honestly, I get tired of seeing A black guy in a group of white people.  It makes me feel like it's so fake.  Like he's there solely so they aren't called racists.

How many pople have A black person in your entire group of white people?  Because I don't.  I'm not saying it's not possible, but it's almost in every movie you see.  Just ONE black guy in a group of white people.  Why?  I understand if there's a reason to have a black guy there.  Maybe he truly is a good actor, and leads/supports well.  But most of the time he's not, he's just mediocre.  (Disclaimer, I believe most movies suck.  I'm not saying all black actors suck.  Please don't call me racist, I date a mixed girl.)
