People keep complaining/worrying about the graphics and why?
Because they haven't seen this Picture yet , where the graphics are turned on
(this is already an old pic yet RedBedlam hasn't been working on the eye candy yet)

is there supposed to be something to see there?

I see no picture here. Perhaps a link would be helpful? I am kind of interested in what the graphics look like when all turned on.

Those graphics look ugly too !
I for one don't believe that the graphics will improve much, even if they will put all the settings on "high". I think they are trying to have people who hesitate to play the game wait around on it / read upmore on it so that they find out this game is about gameplay, not graphics.
Who are you kidding ? This game looks bad, but hey, the games i enjoyed most in my entire life were Ultima Online and Civilization ... Those were by no means small-time games, yet they looked awefull.
If they deliver the gameplay they promise, i dont care at all about the graphics/
The center of gravity for the guy on the right is clearly off... same with the one on the left.. and the shield shouldn't be that easy to lift above the head - he should be sprawled out on the ground on his ass ... small problems I suppose.
Like others I'm spoiled and like seeing attention to detail http://ge.hanbiton.com/GE_download/gallery/images/GE_gallery_005.jpg
*shrugs* I haven't been too impressed with the way the animations are composed in most mmos currently in development. Especially the ones by western MMO teams. They seem to have forgotten physics... they have said graphics are secondary though - understandable... velocity, inertia, weight, mass... whatever... they'll get to it sometime before April... we hope.

First off all don't arse about the centre of graphics and shield lifting, wtf are you talking about? Have you lived in ancient Rome (providing you know what the hell it is) and you know what's the weight of shields and the rest? Wtf else have you seen centre of graphics and this other sh*t you're talking about used? WOW? EQ? Like hell...
Stop with the moaning about bad graphics. This is a 3 and a HALF year old screenshot, and isn't bad at all. Those who want Oblivion type graphics just pull yourself from the net because you're not going to see that type of graphics anywhere anytime soon on an MMORPG.
And stop making up conspiracies boneheads, if you would even BOTHER to check the website you would know RedBedlam is one of few developers who listen to the community. Even in the bloody interview they said graphics won't be near to those games that are popular at the moment. Where in gods name do you see a conspiracy here?!
People rave how good WOW graphics are, however they are cartoons. Anime and Cartoons are easier to draw than trying to do somthing more realistic. If these graphics are horrible/ugly I would hate to see what is considered truly bad. WOW graphics, if you take a closer look are not very good... at all. SWG, EQ 2, a lot of games have graphics that I would not consider wonderful or even high end for one these games were released.
Lets see some screen shots that, if one considers these a 4, are a 9 or 10. Also what graphics cards and computers are required to see these fantastic shots? How many people can you have on the same screen without lag on these shots?
Models, buildings, objects are fine in Roma Victor. But they really need to make the enviroment more alive, trees, different ground textures, rocks, hills, longer drawdistance, animals, leafs, dirt, holes, footsteps, paths and bushes all help. Some goes for the towns
Also they really need to do something with that interface... it's horrible!

The center of gravity is off maybe cuz he is falling from the weight of the sheild and i think you could lift those sheilds up how do you think they did testudos or blocked arrows or whatnots.

Read the bottom of page one of that thread and page two as well. It could be quite interesting for anyone who is worried about graphics.
well i am suppose to be an Rv Fan but i think Grafics need some help.
But i prefer this game with his old bad grafics than most games that claim to be <<role playing >> games and they are only just fighting killing and get the level
I think the graphics will work fine for me. I'm not too concerned with them looking ultra-realistic or anything, as long as I can tell a tree from a person and it is a 3D environment I think I'll be happy.

The graphics do need some tweaking..But alot of people complained about WoW's graphics, and many still do..But look at the great success WoW has achieved.. Graphics isnt everything..Gameplay is more important..
I remember playing rpg's 12 years ago that looked horrible..But some of them were the best games I've ever played.. Shining Force1-2,Phantasy star 1-3,Final fantasy 3,etc.. Go play them then come back and take another look at this screenshot,heh..

Remyburke.. The chronicle and Roma Victor have almost the same quality of graphics at the moment. The Chronicle's screenshots just have the lighting effects on which creates the illusion of better graphics.
Lighting effects Will be turned on along with the high-er quality of gfx in Roma Victor(Im not saying they'll get that much better but...) after that happens .. I believe RV will actually have a little bit better graphics.
But think about it. Would a game actually be playable(without a $14903482435928 computer) if it had the next generation gfx of lets say the newest unreal engine during a battle between a couple thousand avatars(pc and npc)??? NO. it wouldnt. So the quality of gfx that may seem mediocre next to these next gen. gfx are actually neccasary for a game as innovative as RV and of this caliber.

Its not so much their fault in the dumb downed graphics, rmemeber guys this is ROMAN TIMES
Everyone looked the same dressed the same, talked the same, they were like an ant hill.
Classes stuck with one another poor would not mix with rich rich not mix with poor.
I just hope they really detail the face... So much so that you can almost tell who a person is by not their name but the toons face. That will add some individuality to it, seeing as all the gear and weapons will be mostly the same.
Today it was the first time I ever heard about Roma Victor. When I red about it I was thinking "Hey, this is the game I´ve been looking for since I started play computer games!". I liked "Rome: Total War" and back in the days I played the old goodie "Centurion" on my Amiga with great pleasure.
Rome is infact the most beatiful city in the world with the most interesting history. I have been there two times (the last visit was 2 months ago [link]) and really enjoy visiting the old monuments, museums etc. The old Roman Empire is so interesting and if I could travel back in time I would chose to go back to the Roman Era.
So I red on about the game and felt so happy about it. Til I entered the screenshot section...
My god. To be honest, the graphics looks like it´s from 1995 and that is of course not good.
The graphics are not the most important thing for me (for instance I play Anarchy Online without any complains on the graphics) but it´s a mayor ingredient for the empathy. I don´t mean the graphics must be a high end solution, but it must please my gameplay.
When I look at the screenshots (seen 50-60 of 100) I get the feeling that there is no sun in the game, all the surronding are grey and dull. On some screens there is a blue sky but no sun.
The players/NCU:s all look the same. Some have brighter skin and some darker, but they all looks like they come from the same family.
I really hope the graphics will have a big makeover. For me it´s necessary but I also understand that many people don´t feel the same and I hope they will have a pleasent stay in the game.

you know... Ive been defending Roma Victor so long but I really gotta say it. Immersion. That means at least semi-good gfx and right now Roma Victor isnt up to par. Theyre alright.. But they only go so far as to include stuff that is only necessary. To truely make a gamer feel at home within a game of his/her choice.. there needs to be more than that. Those extra textures... extra objects which may not seem necessary and may not have any apparent function(at least at this point in RV - could always be added later) but none-the-less give the player that feeling of complete depth and like theyre actually within the Great(unless youre a barb) Roman Empire.
*for all of those people who are gonna say that the graphics havent been turned up, i gotta say this: It aint just the graphics or the smoothness of certain objects or even those extra shrubs, bushes here and there which are probably gonna appear with the higher level of graphics. But a completely new thought-process needs to be considered by the development team.

Yep, I gotta say if gpx is the only major worry then it's one of the easier dev tasks to improve, the most striking example of this I've seen recently was the difference in Irth Online 6-weeks after their poorly executed launch. But seriously it was a totally different game to the one I was beta testing, the shame was the gameplay sucked - but I don't see that being an issue with RV.

Umm... the graphics really are horrid - even when dressed up. Although there is some substance to the game having as poor graphics as it does is usually an indicator of the developper's inability (or perhaps arrogance in thinking anything will be accepted to true history buffs) to program a proper game. The company is pretty much running on handouts hence the crappy gfx engine as they can't afford a licence to a fucnctional one (ala Unreal) and have stitiched together something truly shoddy. A phrase keeps running through my head - "Run Forest Run"!
