Horizons worth perordering?

Hi i was just wondering if any of the beta testers of horizons think it would be worth preordering? Normaly i do becuase theres usually lots of cool stuff to do at luanch and somtimes the only times u can get certain items but with alot of great games coming out right now i am more inclined to wait and see what the reviews are going to be.

I'm not horizons beta, but I don't think it's neccessary to preorder it.  I know for a fact it's not going to be sold out in the stores.  No MMORPG ever is.  Besides it you preorder and it gets sent to your house, it might end up getting there a little late for the "special items" or whatever.  I guess it just all depends on if you want to go out there and pick it up, or pay the extra bit of cash to have it sent to your house :P

I think you'll be able to get a copy of Horizons at EB or Best Buy or wherever on day one.  If you're concerned, ask EB to hold a copy for you.  They will usually do that.

    No.

Unless you want it the day of launch, I see no compelling reasons to preorder it. To my knowledge, there are no real special items or benefits to preordering.

Actually SWG sold out for a few weeks on launch .There was a lot of ebaying of the copies and many were forced to by the over expensive collector's edition because of lack of regular ones.

However that had to do with it have star wars galaxies on its name so was down to the hype and logo.I myself am not pre ordering horizons because i sincerely doubt it will sell out.

I am waiting for the reviews for Horizons. If it is good, then I will most likely buy it, but I suggest waiting for the reviews.

I would predict server problems at launch, and that it will take a few patches before they get fun, playable long term gaming environment.

    Don't pay to test.

  • Just remember, the NDA is still in effect. So beta users cannot comment on this yet.

And you have to ask yourself why is the nda still up this close to launch?

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

nm changed my mind and pre ordered it because play.com was selling it for £15 which is like $24  half price what most are selling for .

So think many might buy from them and they run out of copies.

As for the game been bad well for £15 (free postage) its the cheapest brand new mmorpg i ever bought by a mile so who cares if it stinks badly.

I paid more then twice for SWG,shadowbane,FFXI and they all stunk.

Hey all.  I might not be quite as experienced as the rest of you.  But I've had my fair share of time with mmorpgs.  After reading all of your comments, I decided I'd go check out the horizons site.

Frankly, I think I might pre-order now.  The screen shots alone were a hook, let alone the different playing options, housing, crafting, etc.  I understand there are some nuances to these games that might need to get improved upon, but as of now I'm really looking forward to this one.

Any of you "thoroughly" disagree with me?

Since the NDA is still in effect, I must limit my comments.  Horizons will most likely be the game you love to hate.  There are many things I wish were different, there are many things I think are great.  Unfortunately, the things that frustrate me far outweigh the things I like.  If you just look at the things that are public then you will start to see what I am saying:

No PvP - I don't think games have to be EQ style pvp go slay the noob kind of games to be good.  I do think that some element of PvP adds to the excitment. After all for those that are warrior types ( whether spell caster or melee) the biggest challenge is putting your skills against another human. IMHO

Graphics - well even the screens that are posted show the age of the engine.  This is much like shadowbane, IMHO it's that situation where a game is in development so long thats it ends up being dated upon release.

All in all -  This game will appeal largely to the social crowd.  The crafters and such will find plenty to do and enjoy.  The fighter types may have a difficult time staying interested.  All claims of AI so advanced that the mobs will challenge you, attack your settlements and such are interesting and at this point still to be seen.  ( I recall AC2 made such claims and in the limited time I played I saw nothing of the sort).

Whether or not you should pre-order this or anygame is purely a loaded question.  As with all MMORPGS or MMO's in general it depends on your play style.  Whether an MMO is great or a dud  to you depends alot on what style game you enjoy.

Basic rule:  Never preorder a MMORPG unless you have been in beta for more than a month and love the game.  Wait at least two months for the fan boys to calm down in order to find out if the game is good or not.  When a game first launches everyone who plays it will find something they enjoy for the moment and rave about it everwhere.  Then a month or so later it gets boring and they hate the game.  Also with releases lately many features that were promissed at launch are not added for a few months after release.  So for any game, unless you have beta teseted it and loved it, wait for a while so that the true colors of the game will show.

BTW...does anyone have any idea when the NDA will be lifted?  I realize the beta testers will obviously have the most insight, and would love to hear what they have to say?  I'm dyin to learn more.....(either way I already know I'm gonna buy it tho...heheh)....

  • ClandestineClandestine Member UncommonPosts: 91

I preordered my copy also. I have the same nervousness, hoping I didn't make a mistake. I was burned on Shadowbane and Star Wars Galaxies. I hope I'm not on this one. I'm thinking it will be different though.

The NDA will have to be lifted by Friday since it's going gold...

should preorder cuz u get a disk that gives u special quest and items. people r saying this game sucks bcuz they r in beta! in beta many things from launch r not included, so they r not even seeing the whole picture! at launch, this game will have so much more stuff than it has in beta right now. who cares about retarded PvP anyways? i know I don't

i have obviously preordered and i cannot wait for the release!

I was in Beta for Horizons... it's going to be a great game in another 6 months But it's laggy as hell, buggy as hell, and there's still some kinks to work out as far as class balancing and stuff.

The pros -- it's beautiful, the music is incredible, and the crafting system even enticed a lazy arse adventurer like me to do some serious crafting.

It *will* be a very good game, I think. In my opinion, this bun ain't ready yet. Needs to stay in the oven a little while longer.

  • ClandestineClandestine Member UncommonPosts: 91

Just out of curiousity, how long have you been out of the beta? From what I have been told by beta testers, the lag and the bug issues have been worked out...

OK I WANNA SAVE YOUR MONEY. This game is total crap. There is nothing to do in it (all you can do is crafting and fighting lame mobs). All quests are same with lame rewards (none big or story quests). Tons of bugs and grafical + server lag. Memory leaks, empty world, game is in early beta and not ready for sale. WHAT DEVELOPERS ARE THINKING? This game will die soon after release, so don't buy it and don't waste your money, time.
