Ok well I am bored out of my mind waiting on the next good pvp game (played shadowbane for 2 years, but it's a dieing game) and since there isn't a game out there or even in developtment that really meets the needs of the pvp minded players (except maybe Darkfall) this thread is just ideas on what would make the perfect pvp game.
To start off-
City building/siegeing
minimum level grind
open pk
lots of character stat customization
no lag
...basically I want Shadowbane done right
other?

Chronicles might be what your looking for. City building, pvp and supposedly short leveling.
ya I looked into that game. I was getting interested until I saw the part about permadeath...not cool

grinding is a part of any mmo true, but I want as little as possible. If you really try (and don't get killed anywhere along the way) you can hit max level in shadowbane in less than 2 days...I want a game that doesn't force me to sit through boring pve to get to what the game is really about.

Permadeath is only for those that choose to be main characters. Otherwise it will not affect you.
basically what i want is a mix of these: UO, AC1 Darktide, SB, and Counterstrike (FPS with some strategy, not completely FPS, but a mix)
therefore what i want is Darkfall, wich promises most of what a pvper wants...so we will see what happends in beta

I like PvP and PvE and leveling characters or "skilling up" characters -- because of the sense of "progress" one gets. But there is a reason that leveling up is called "the grind." Because, as the poster says, PvE is BORING.
THAT is the main problem. It's not that PvE is inherently boring. We have all played and enjoyed platform or PC games which mainly involved PvE (essentially it's all PvE when you don't have other "real life players" to fight with) and we have liked those games a lot.
So, it seems to me that the real problem is NOT PvE per se, but that currently PvE is not done as attractively or as fun as PS2 or Xbox games.
Example -- I played Dungeon Siege and the Legends of Aranna and found both to be really fun. That's all PvE and includes leveling up; however, I never really thought about the leveling up process because I was just having too much fun in the game.
Why? Well, might have been because you got NPC hirelings to help you out, you fought HUGE numbers of mobs at once making the fights more like raging battles, and you even got a mule to carry the loot! Tons of loot, which everybody likes.
So my question is: where is all that "fun" PvE when it comes time to level up in most online games?
It's almost as if the developers WANT you to grind, but grinding is boring IF you are only thinking about getting your next level instead of getting involved in huge battles AND keeping ALL the loot for yourself -- and even hiring mercenaries when no other players want to join you in your quest or XP'ing or whatever.
Guild Wars, to some degree, does offer this, but the NPCs are usually not high enough level -- which of course creates a situation where you will probably be "forced" to group with "idiots" (come on now, you know the guys I mean) to complete your quests, etc.

But this still does not answer what is the perfect PvP game....
Well, it's one of those things where, when you see it, you'll know it.
Darkfall, which is starting to ramp up towards beta stages (Clan beta soon, later individual testers will be allowed to enter -- and hopefully we will see them update their freaking site, FAQs, game features, etc.) "might" be one such game.
I like the idea of the huge, seamless world, the FPS-style fighting (reminds me of Planetside since "friendly fire" can kill you, and dumbshits in town could run you over with their vehicles), the building and destruction of structures, the player-made towns, etc. The "full looting" and the "drop everything when you die" might actually turn out to be more pain in the ass than cool after awhile though, I am thinking. Corpse run after corpse run is not such fun, so one would hope that in PvE players are MUCH stronger than mobs -- but without "leveling" and only "learning skills" as in Darkfall, one wonders how this will be pulled off. One also wonders if rampant PK'ing will be as much fun as it sounds at first. Hell, I want to kill and loot you, but surely don't want that to happen to me, eh?
Time will tell if this potentially hardcore game really offers fun or merely a guild vs guild or town vs town warfare along with a lot of PK'ing thrown in.

I definitely agree that developers don't make pve fun, but to me the difference between single player pve and MMO's is this...with a single player game I pay $50 and the game is mine forever. With an MMO I pay $50 and then I still have to pay $15 a month to play the game. For me, I don't want to spend those $15 each month leveling up my character.
I was against paying a monthly fee for games for a very long time....but then I started to get into pvp and it was worth that money IF I was spending my in game time doing what the game is actually about (PvP)
