Originally posted by Copeland I posted this before i think in the general discussion section to a person knocking their announcements on player records. I'm not sure most gamers understand the signifigance. Basically from a game point of view it really doesnt matter. CCP is pushing the limits of technology and doing it in a profitable way. This means companies like IBM and others will have an interest in working with the company to continue to improve the technology. This benefits everybody not just gamers. CCP is helping to develop better hardware which in turn will trickle down to more industries. They're like a space program. So EVE players can take a little pride that their gaming habits are indeed helping to actually develop technology. It's not like your paying blizzard or soe $15 a month just to fill more pockets. When you pay CCP - that money is going right back into making the game perform better. This is what seperates CCP from the rest of the game companies. Love EVE or hate EVE you should really appreciate the company that made EVE.
Very well said I've never poo-poo'd the records that EVE sets. I know full well what the technical implications are, as a server administrator in a 300,000+ network I am fully aware of the kinds of relationships pushing the limits generates. Microsoft LOVES our project because we are testing things live in an active environment that they never could in a lab. To quote one of their reps: "It's exciting to see our technology pushed to it's limits because it will help us make it better, faster".
EVE is doing the same things with it's design. Like the new ram chip drives. That is truely something to be amazed at. And something that I'm personally interested in as well.
I did find it annoying when I saw "EVE breaks XXX record" every 2 or 3 days though It was pretty crazy there for a while when EVE was literally rampaging through the numbers. I think they went from like 12k record to 19k in the span of like 4 months so it was actually getting almost annoying seeing constant threads about what new record the game had broken.

Yep
It's a lot better now.... Dunno what all they did (haven't read the official site in a while) but the game is definitely a lot more responsive. I'm heading out to 0.0 once I finish training engineering electronics and navigation to 5. Need it that high to properly equip a tackler so I can take part in 0.0 combat.
