Such a shame

Has anyone else noticed how faith in this genre has been totally stripped down?
It seems like so many projects have made promises they couldn't keep and it's had a negative effect on all MMOs. The base gameplay methods also add to this. (auto-target,level,grind,loot,quest)

It just struck me today how severe the issue is when I took a look at the Darkfall hype ratings. Things like 'the same as every other MMO' or 'doesn't have financial support' or 'overhyped from false promises'
I really wish these people would do their research or have a little faith before putting Adventurine in the same boat as SOE or NCsoft etc.
Just to straighten the record for the recent crop of ratings:

This is these guys first game, so you have absolutely no right to judge their abilities.
The game has only ever been player hyped. You go back and count how many statements Razorwax have actually released regarding the games 'wow' factor. They set their ground goals from the very beginning and have done nothing but stick to them year after year.
Financially, they are sound. They've had the backing to work full time on the project for about 4 years. Anything that takes that long and still has no definate release date is hardly scraping its budget.
If you think this is just another Everclone then you need to pull your head out your arse and actually do some homework.
And if the graphics turn you away, then good riddance.

It has been long waiting, but that's what it takes to make a decent MMO. A few weeks back IGN held 'Darkfall' week with a few new renderings and screenshots as well as some weapon/npc lore info. Just that is proof enough that this game IS going ahead. Beta is also approaching as mentioned in the update as well as the official guild beta registry. It's just a matter of waiting, which doesn't require absolute lifetime dependence. Just do what you would when waiting for anything to be made, find something else to do and check back every now and then.

I just feel sorry for any first time developers who have their product slated before it even has a chance to prove itself.

Agreed. Personally, I'm not going to get too psyched about the game, but I do believe it has a chance. Look at where Turbine came from. AC1 is revered by its players as the best MMO they ever played. Turbine started with nothing.. they learned how to do things because MS trusted them and gave them access to new technologies. Granted, AC2 didn't do well.. but look at the licenses they have now. Two of -the biggest- licenses out there. LotR and DnD.

A small company like the one making Darkfall may have some problems, but if it can just prove itself with one good title, it can amount to something big one day.

I totally agree with you. Generalizing MMO's into categories and critisizing them based on the other unrelated failures is utterly stupid. I bet not one of these yuppies who run areound brandishing everything as "Everclones" have even researched the game and taken not of their recent successes. Well said..
