I have a Nvidia 7800 and was going to get the new drivers, the 81.95 or whatever. I have the 77.77 ones. Well I download them, then delete my old ones in add or remove programs. Then go to install the new one. I turn it back on, and it is saying that i dont have pci memory controller, sm bus controller, or other pci bridge device installed. And I COULDENT connect to the internet. So I did a system restore. Anyone know why it did that, i never had problems on my old computer, I have no idea why the bus controllers things come up and why they arent installed. Did I do something wrong? HELP
Thanks

well, first of all (this is just extra) u dont need to delete the old nvidia drivers first, just install the new ones and it auto replaces them. just to let you know, since they are both nvidia. but, as for your problem. is it a new computer that you built? because you might not have installed certain mobo features, or certain programs may have been deleted. Im not sure exactly, someone else may be able to help more than me.
Well first, with all respect to Sackynut, when changing between these two sets of driver you absolutely must uninstall the old set, you may not always have issues but more often then not an issue like yours will crop up.
The most basic of what to do is going into your control panel and uninstall the old Forceware set, from then on I suggest you use Drivercleaner to get the remaining nasty stuff out from the reg and db system files. From there, re-boot and start with a fresh install of your new driver set, hopefully that will clear up all the problems your having.
Of course the problem could be more complex, hopefully it's not though. Here's a list of links I think will help you.
- DriverCleaner (Driver removal software that works well with Nvidia sets and it's free, yay !)
- Twakguides to removing and installing drivers (This guide is a little dated but the process stands firm to this day, it's exactly what I do when I update or test new driver sets.
- Official Nvidia How To (Self explanitory really)
- NvNews.net (Probably the best resource you have as an Nvidia user, the site itself it good but the forums are a must read for anyone wanting to tweak or ease the pain of drivers as a whole. Anyways, if your still having problems, that would be the perfect place to post them, the community is great and they'll get you up on your feet in no time.)
Anyways, hope that helps. Good luck.
Important Information regarding Posting and You
Just right mouse click on "My computer" icon, should bring up "System Properties", click on "Hardware", then "Device Manager". Find "Display Adapters" click on your display adapter, click on uninstall then reboot. Install the new drivers when it boots up.
The best way to get a clean uninstall is to boot into safemode and do the same above. As sometimes when uninstalling the drivers are being used and dont unload correctly and then dont get deleted but in safe mode display drivers arent being used at all just default.
