Originally posted by dunadurium As to why you would want to solo craft i have no clue, group crafting of this nature has not been done in any other game and it sounds like a real innovation to crafting and should make it a lot more fun to do. But if its not your box of chocolates then i assure you there will be solo content but it will probably only be around as exciting as crafting in other recent games]

I think the main reason people often like to solo craft is its mindless and a break from paying attention. It can be done when one is not able to pay a lot of attention to the game. I am interested to see how group crafting works out. The group harvesting sounds interesting and much more efficient than harvesting solo. I see there are group work orders as well. From the way posts I read it sounds like they will take into account the classes of of the group. While I support the idea of adventure groups leveling much faster than I solo I would be against such a big diffference in crafting as many more people like to do it solo. I have not seen it emntioned on teh crafting side if will be faster, considerably faster or similar to soloing. It will be interesting to see how group crafting works out. Crafters in myexperience are some of the best and most mature players one finds in these games. Encouraging them to group does not sound like a bad thing.
I am quite excited to see how things work out. I loved the crafting with city building and construction in Horizons. It was very well done. Except the rest of Horizons was so lacking it made crafting almost pointless. Hopefully VSoH has crafting as good but rather the crafting will have actual meaning because the rest of the game will be well done. I am excited about the possibilities.
Yeah when i was referring to "group" and "raid" crafting, i was basically talking about things like class and sphere dependances, depending on adventurers to get you to the really good crafting stations, relying on harvesters for materials, and just basically relying on a "group" of people around you to get the things needed for crafting rather than doing the actual crafting itself(because apparently jorev wants to be completely self sufficient in his crafting). Looking at that previous post, i realize i could have put it in a better way. I think the system is just so complex and indepth that its hard to explain in a few sentences. And yes i too am very excited for this game and really do believe that it will be a true next gen MMO.
This looks like the game I've been waiting for, and missing, since SoE took over for Verant and ruined EQ. I personally like Brad's "Vision"... a MMO should not be solo-focused. You should be able to if you want, but is should be slower and harder than if you were grouping. Why play an MMO if you never intend to group, anyhow? Dungeon Siege is great for stuff like that.
Anyhow, I digress. I am glad Brad took his Vision and is sticking by it, making the kind of game HE would want to play. Many players agree with what he believes. It is a good time in the MMO universe... there are many types of games to cater to the many types of players. Vanguard appeals to those of us who loved EQ1 and all it stood for during the Verant years.
Those people are generally looking for a "home"... a MMO they can finally call home. At least that is what I am looking for. So far, Vanguard is not looking like it will disappoint.

Originally posted by newbinator It looks mildly interesting but the forced grouping thing just turns me off.
[There really is no forced grouping, reading through this thread alone will verify that]
But now getting back on the topic of this thread, seeing as how we kinda got off track. I would just like to add that the *huge* seamless world (read: no zones/loading) and the way they are laying out the content is exciting. Along with the large cities which they are essentially designing as huge "dungeons" for diplomats, who will be able to influence the hand of kings and decision makers, is also pretty nice becuase now cities will actually have a defined purpose and have alot of people going through them and doing their thing, which i think will really make them feel alive.
Vanguard SOH looks to be a good game, now that i start reading through the FAQ i am actually surprised to see some of its features. Those goals are pretty large though so i guess time will tell how much of it they can get in their game. I do agree with all of Brads ideas so if the gam turns out like he is planning, i think it will really be a great game. Too bad i haven't looked into it earlier, but the page on MMORPG.com doesn't say any of the stuff that is in the FAQ.
Yes i will try it for sure, if its not good though i will not play. easy as that.
