Trying it out, any tips to getting started?

in Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted

Me and my wife and a few friends are giving the game a try. I have read alot of the posts here on it and can see that dragon seems to be the most popular, what are the other "best" choices/points if any.
Any general handy tips would be helpful TYVM and Happy Holidays. ::::20::::::08::::::20::

PS. we tend to love and have a knack for crafting also

    The best place to be asking this question is the community forums.  You'll find much more information there.

    As to which are the popular races, I've seen Sslik and Dwarf mentioned frequently.

    If you play on the Chaos (NA Non-rp) server, you should also join the "New Player Assistance" chat channel.   A lot of the veterans hang out there and they are very friendly and helpful to new players.

    Also, if you like crafting, you're playing the right game image
