It wasn't work. It should say what they PLAYED hard for. People tend to take games too seriously. I know they are fun, and involving. And I have been guilty of this to some degree. But it wasn't WORK. It was play. And if you didn't enjoy PLAYING and getting to where/whatever you got to. And it felt like WORK. Then you shouldn't have been playing the GAME.

Try to keep things in perspective. What did people lose? They had fun playing a game. The game changed and they didnt want to play anymore. No one likes the rules changing in the middle of a game. I understand that. But in the end they lost some digital information from something that didn't even really belong to them. And if you enjoyed the time you played, then you haven't lost the time. It was FUN when you played. So it was time well spent on the entertainment. Well...if you can consider time spent playing a game time well spent at all. (But thats a different issue.)

Did you think you would play SWG forever? Did you think the game would even exist forever? No...you would have left eventually, or the game would shutdown eventually. All games will. Just like everyone eventually dies. So you cannot look at the time you spent having fun as being wasted or stolen from you. Its entertainment, and you were entertained. And it was never going to be forever, had to end somehow/sometime.

The nature of MMORPGs these days is to focus on the feeling of reward and accomplishment in gaining levels and loot in games. So in the end, people come to feel like thats where the fun comes from. And they should considering thats the focus of development. When the focus should be more on, quests, combat, etc being fun.

They focus on loot and levels because its easier then coming up with dynamic and stimulating combat and content.

I believe if they focused more on the combat/content as being rewarding, instead of the loot/leveling then maybe it wouldn't feel more like work. And if something made you leave the game, maybe you wouldn't feel so cheated.

Now the broken promises and sneaky practices...that's just bad business that should make everyone take notice. Vent the anger, and move on, because after all it was just a GAME. Its healthier that way.

Anyway...I am going off on a tangent. So, enough for now.

Its also a business with customers who expect something for the cash they pay to play and when its not delivered or the customers get scammed and deceived and the company makes promises it doesn’t keep or lies then the customers get upset and challenge the company, they spread the word, they write bad reviews be it a game or not.

I paid to play an MMORPG for 2.5 years and that goes with a certain thing in mind, MMOs are made and played with two MAIN (not all but main) things in mind.
1. playing with other people as to create and develop a community.
2. Developing your character and having that progress saved.
Now with that said I can safely say that SOE literally destroyed both those in SWG for tens of thousands of players, many of them spending the better part of 3 years working on those two main issues. I can easily go enjoy BF2 but there I’m not paying 15 bucks a month and I’m not getting the depth either.
Ergo the difference and the reason so many people are very displeased at this point. And if all we had was people with your kind of outlook then we would never progress in the development of any game (much less anything else) and companies would get away with all kinds of piss poor management because they would be content with being fed sh|t all the time OR yes , taking it up the rear. Between myself, my husband and my best friend we had 10 accounts – YEAH WE DID SO??????? We loved the game and we had a lot of fun – I mean common it was great. If anyone needs to grow up it is YOU.
