I played the game for about 4 months post North American release, got to about level 18 and felt like I hit a major bottle neck. It seemed like everyone packed into that one beach zone from levels 13 to about 20. It bothered me because I figured there had to be more spots to go but in a game like FFXI which is strictly group oriented, you need to follow the crowds to get stuff done. With the release of Chains of P. did this change at all or is it still pretty competitive for group spots in one zone. I loved the game play but felt like the community had been lobotomized by Playonline. Maybe I was just running with the wrong crowds and a lack of guild... Who knows?
If anyone could explain how it is working currently that would be great.

I started playing shortly after the release too, i'm sure valkurm dunes hasn't been as bad since then.
I hear many people have gotten jobs to 75 by now, and that the population has decreased a bit, so i would assume that many of the low level areas aren't anywhere near as bad as they were at the launch.
BUT, i haven't played in over 12 months so i'm not really sure, i'm planning on returning also, still haven't decided which server though.
I've been playing for a good 6 months now and I have had no problems because of crowded spots. Everytime I stumbled onto an overcrowded area, my pt and I always had a second option. I don't know what things were like before CoP but I don't believe u will have these kinds of probs now.
