They seem to be very good at this.

Eve has great PVP for sure, it been a year that i'm playing it everyday 3-4 hours minimum. Pvp is very adictive :)

But i have to say that customer support is way under the average... They are real noob (or cavemens) when it comes to customer support: no logs, dumb preformated messages, threats against players, etc...

Eve Online BY FAR won the best graphics category. When I first went through a gate, zipping through a solar system, I was like wooooooooooow, I just passed a STAR. And the ships still look gorgeous despite the game itself being relatively old.

There are a lot of EVE players on these boards too compared to others(atleast it feels like that since many topics on EVE in the PUB).

I'm going to stick a complaint in here about Roma Victor not being on the most antipated. But in the spirit of niceness I am going to say I really like this readers choice voting thing done by MMORPG.com, very cool. For some reason I don't remember it from years before.

    umm One thing....

Horizons for best story and fiction...

can I ask what story and what fiction ?

There are no story line based quests in game. There is no lore in game and there is virtually no content in game.

By what basis is this nomination weighed against ?

Because right now in game there is no fiction and no lore in it to support that nomination. If you wanted a true candidate than WoW should have been in there. You simply do not get a more competitive story line and fiction than the warcraft universe. You will not find one single quest like what WoW' has with its story line quests in Horizons. You will not find a dungeon boss Mob that actually shouts at you and follows that dungeon's theme. Just because its all scribbled on Mr Bowman's scratch pad somewhere doesn't mean its in game for players to enjoy. Son of Gigaroth the games only Boss type mob usually dies pretty quickly and falls over fast.

So I am curious as to what basis this particular nomination was weighed against? More of a asking for a quantification of this nomination by supported facts. Why Horizons got the nod in this category over wow baffles me and should any logically considering human being. Even if you didn't like WoW anyone can see it had more of a story than Horizons has which is nothing atm. I would imagine a requirement would be for the story to actually be in the game and there for its players to enjoy. It's not there now thats for sure.

You cant take out EVE online exactly from PvP category. Really. Yes, I am fanboi of EVE but still I have played other mmorpgs and PvP in EVE is what makes this game real thing. After 1-2 months the graphics is nothing but "sheer lag for battles" to players but the pumping heart in PvP lasts for years. The anticipation of the up coming battle.

I've voted most for World of Warcraft sine its an amazing game in many aspects and imagine the game that have all aspect of the game(pvp, pve, graphics, sound etc) worked well all together. I was disapointed that WoW wasn't nominated on Best PvP Game of the year. I've voted Guild Wars since that game is all based on PvP. Well I guess WoW can't take it all even though in my opinion it should. Great job Blizzard and thanks for the great year of gamming. :)

I ve been playing EVE for the most of the time this year, switching for Lineage II and bouncing a few moments on other mmorpg on that list.

I would say all virtual worlds outthere are really worth to play and live, many compliments to Lineage II and its outstanding graphic achievment and overall gameplay dinamics, customer support very efficent and professional.

In EVE things are different, I find infact, EVE to be the best achievment in deploying a virual world where game aspects are thought to be just as "real" as possible; in other words on EVE on line Players are Citizens of a virtual world which is the closest thing to the real world.

Npc have got a role of course but it is minimum in influencing the overall dynamics of the community.

Advanced market managment, impressive operational tools, vibrant corporations activity, outstanding pvp system, infinites ways of interacting with the enviroment in order to establish itself in a "real" society.

In my opinion you "play" other mmorpg but you "live" EVE.

My vote to CCP, thank you :)

World of Warcraft was not nominated for best story??? Well I'll wasted my vote on Horizon. I never played the game, so I don't care. None of the other nominated games deserve my vote.

Star Wars Galaxies?? WHAT STORY??? THERE IS NO STORY!!!

City of Heroes??? Where??? You grind, each quest is different. There is no story!

WoW has a story! Each chain quest has it's own story! Each instance has it's own story that is told through quests! WoW has 1000x more story than SWG and CoH!

    ___________ ___ __ _ _ _
    Stealth - Ambush - Hemorrhage - Sinister Strike x2 - Cold Blood - Eviscerate - Vanish - Preparation - Cold Blood - Ambush - ... you're dead! :P

I agree that Blizzard has done an amazing job but if they don't fix their servers, they are going to lose alot of peeps, with me being in front of that line...

I'm curious to see what others are thinking after the past month of realm/server issues....

World of Warcraft was a fairly boring game that sold well only because it's blizzard and they could afford to advertise so much that even people who know nothing about video games ( and I do mean nothing ) have heard of this game. While it should not win most of the awards in the categories for which is has been selected, it probably will.

Firstly for favorite company - the servers so bogged down with lag because their advertising created a demand they could not meet.  You often have to wait to get into the game and still skip across the landscape

Secondly in the description for it's second nomination ( most pleasing visuals ) is this:

"Their graphics are a bit blocky. If this vote asked you to consider only technology, World of Warcraft would not be nominated. Blizzard makes up for this with style, blazing performance and sleek user-interface design."

Doesn't the description of the category state that it had to have:

" the best graphics of any game on the market in 2005."

which it clearly does not. As for "blazing performance" my old pos scrap heap pIII could play it full quality with no lag and it still looked just as blocky as on my new computer and every other computer I've seen it on ( i know many addicts ).

To PvE (as well as to PvP) it bring nothing new to the table nor does it improve on anything. It runs on a system based entirely on level and gear based fighting that requires very little skill to take part it ( perhaps a reason it's popular... -_-;; )

The quests are the same as in most other games already on the market with a little story to go with each which is nice. The players make a minute impact on the world if any, isn't that the point of an rpg? To better yourself and truly affect the future/storyline of the world you're playing in? How can this happen if all the servers follow the same path?

All in all it's an mediocre game with mediocre graphics with mediocre quests and a gameplay system that doesn't involve much thought or skill and no personal character progression control and where everyone of the same class and level is the same (differing only by gear) and you use the same current most efficient combination of moves for almost every situation repeatedly until you hit level 60 and make no real impression on the world you play in other than maybe some meaningless name recognition by the mass of other players on your bogged down server which makes you wait to get on and then -still- lags.

    *takes a breath*

Did I miss anything? It's nomination for so many categories ( in which it will probably win ) is equivalent to the "proverbial" high school student body popularity contest in which the victors win with no basis on real merit but rather because of wider spread name recognition. Yes it's a decent game, but does it embody the best there is in most of the categories for which it is nominated? Definitely not, and while it truly is Massively Multiplayer and Online, it comes up short of being a decent RPG.

Ask a million people to choose the better between something they know and something they don't, and unless they hate the thing they know they'll usually pick it over the thing they don't.

I've seen this a lot. You guys have to realize there is more to graphics than polygones. Great art direction (their color palette, etc.) is why it was chosen.
