Recently I decided to play CoH again
I reactivated my account, downloaded the game, patched it, login to play and boom PC locks up totally. I mean where I have to hit the rest button or turn the power off no other option. Well this sucks but maybe it was just a fluke. I restart try to login again play for about 5 minutes and boom total system lockup. Restart try to log back in boom lockup.
I contacted there CS and was given tons of suggestions on what to try to get the game to run. I tried all of theirs plus a ton of my own I thought of. Updated every kind of driver you can think of, played with AGP settings, everything. For some reason I think my PC must just hate openGL.
So after a week of trying to get CoH to run properly and locking up every single time I attempt to play it I am sick of it. I of course cancel the game and I ask them for my $15 back for the month of playtime I just bought. They tell me because the game has been logged into I cannot get a refund. Seems kind of odd since if I knew my new system was going to be unable to run the game I would not have paid for a month playtime and tried to login
So am I wrong to ask for my money back since I cannot login and play the game at all?. I have already deleted it from my system and I feel like it is fraud for them to keep my money since I did not get the service I paid for which was being able to login and play the game.

i think they are right..i know it sounds terrible..but if everyone started doin this,,u know there would be people not as honest as u are..and u know what would happen..sorry about that its a bummer

I think it's morally wrong and unethical for them to keep your money when you can't play the game. Unfortunately, the policies made by most companies isn't based on anything ethical or moral so they probably won't return your money even though it's the right thing to do.
Yep and you are correct.
NCsoft says because the account was accessed it is not eligible for a refund. It also seems as if their CS can't read because it doesn't matter that I locked up every time I tried to play and that I will be unable to even use the account for the month I paid for. I basically feel like I have been ripped off because I gave them my money and recieved nothing in return since I can't play the game on my system.
booooooo NCsoft I almost hate them more than SOE now
As much as I love CoH/CoV, I've always disliked their email support team. The in-game GMs are actually very good, always got to me in-game within 15 to 30 mins (sometimes 5 mins!), but the email support team gave me nothing but problems. Hell, when an issue gets "escalated" it's supposed to go to somebody higher up the TS chain right? Always wound up getting somebody who seemed like they never played the game before. Then I found out that they actually share TS people with Lineage and other NCSoft games, so that's why the email support was so crappy sometimes (I was actually getting somebody who didn't know the game ).
Having said all that, NCSoft support is still leaps and bounds better than SOE support (at least SOE support for SWG ).
Anyway, I feel your pain, but honestly from a business standpoint they can't refund your money. You already opened the box, installed the software, and used your key. If you hadn't gone through all that they might have given you your money back, but now forget it. Hell, a lot of places won't refund you on software purchases. Like another poster said, your being honest about the situation, but imagine how many people would lie out their !@#$% in order to play the game for free using the "please refund my money the game doesn't work" con.

Yes it is wrong. Personally I hate you for it.
You are probably one of the asses calling me up at Directv to complain about missing 1 hour and wanting credit for it. These people don't care it comes out to 3 cents, they still want to waste 5 minutes getting that 3 cents back.
I don't care about the $15. Its the principle of the thing. On my old system that I used when I bought CoH it ran fine so I don't care for getting money back for the software or previous months I paid and played. It was my reactivation month I asked for the $$ back for. But they basically give you generic responses and ignore what you say. Typical piss poor customer service, you probably know what I am talking about Laserwolf :P I guess I will just chalk up the $15 as a donation to NCsoft for Christmas since they probably need it to fix their game.
I can see their side also. But then you think they could just look at some logs and be able to tell I locked up every time and that I no longer even attempt to login and thus have wasted my money :P But I guess that would be to much effort on their part to do the right thing, ohhhhhhh well
I think its right for you to ask for your money back. You paid them to play the game and you can't, so really its breaking thier terms of agreement for playing the game since they cannot provide a service you paid for. Just explain it to your credit card company and they can charge back the transaction regardless of what NCsoft thinks about it. Also if they try to take legal action, they won't have any ground.
wow, that sucks. im playing CoH right now, and nothing like that has happened to me. i do think its wrong for them to take your money. i think they should set up a better system to see if people really cant play the game or if their trying to rip the company off.
Its easy enough to check since most mmo companies keep logs of character chat and who is logged in for how long, and what parts of the server block they are on. Its a little suspicious if a person only has been on the login server for the entire time they played for.
I am not sure what your new system is like, but I am pretty sure ATI video cards on PCI-e ports have problems with OpenGL. Whats odd is he cannot choose which video render he wishes to use since alot of mmo's offer a choice. You might wanna make sure all your video drivers up to date and you have Direct X 9.0c.
