fable is a great great game, but its a disapointment compared to the hype that they built up.
they said it was going to be the game of all time, open ended, etc. if it was as good as the hype it would quickly overshadow, FF, zelda, etc.
but it was an awesome game just not the game it was advertised to be.

Fable is still one of my all time very favorite games, especially the PC version which is originally meant to be anyways.
Like Verg says though, it's only fault was that it was way off base from what it was originally meant to be and we got left with what they put out. My biggest issue with Fable was that it was incredibly short and offers very little re-playability in the long run.
But whatever, it's one of those games thats just pure fun to play from start to finish, looks really really good and has an awesome story driving it. I personally felt the prison seen near the middle of the game was pure brilliance.

Not to be mean, but do you really mean that? I'm still new to it, but the story I know so far:His home is destroyed, searches for revenge, big quest. I mean the story I know it so far is a story I've seen in many different games. I can name them for you.
You are right about the hype. I remember when Fable was in development. developers said that you can cut grass and it won't grow back. Now I tried cutting grass and you can't, not only that if this game has day and night, I think some grass should be able to grow back. I had to find out that the game was in paths on my own so it's not necessarily free roaming. It should have been, a little bit. Dark Cloud 2 and Dragon Warrior VIII are 2 good examples of how it should have been done.
Fable is good for me so far, but it can't touch what The Elder Scrolls did. It's been over a year and . . . I'm not done. Possibly the longest game I've ever played.

I agree. I played and beat fable like 2 times, good and evil, but it just didnt really give me a great time like The Elder Scrolls did. Its ok, not a bad rpg, but i was really expecting an extremely open ended rpg where you could do anything, go anywhere, etc. The gameplay was a little to linear for what it was hyped up to be...

Yeah, I'm starting to think it's false hype. I bet IGN gave it so much hype that they just gave it the 9.5 for being out.

I take back some stuff of what I said. Things just got rather interesting after the Arena fight.

Fable's story isn't that great... My favourite 'Get revenge on killer" RPG to date is Shenmue 2.
A bit too overhyped it was. There was even an article of Peter Molyneux apologising
to gamers that he had failed to deliver all the promises he said would be in the game.
The story doesn't even come close to the Final Fantasy series.
The whole grow up as a kid to a man was just chapter finish fast forward scene.
That was kind of something i was looking forward to...
And the game could do more with a longer game length.
It's strange for Fable & KOTOR to have game lengths of 7 hours.
Ive never heard of RPG's that go so short.
That is like even shorter than your average platform adventure game.
However both games do make good rpg romps
If you guys want open-ended non-linear RPG's, you should go check out
both Deus Ex and its sequel. As soon as you complete the game,
you will straightaway goto New Game and attempt to explore many different ways to
tackle the game.

Hehe, when I first read that I was like... "Yup, he hasn't gotten past the Arena Fight yet ". It does get better from then on, story line anyways, and then the prison seen is one of my all time fav's in any game period. When they teach people about immersion in video games, that entire level should force fed to would-be developers.
Happy to hear your enjoying it though Riki.

I did it with an obsidian great sword, full set of plate armor, way too many potions, and staying in Berserk mode the whole time...oh, and of course trying my best to stay behind it.
And the story left me flat. It was way too predictable and generic feeling. I went as far in the game as escaping from the prison, and then for me the game was finished, havnt touched it since.
Cool game though, lots of neat stuff here and there. You guys are right though, it was too linear, not enough sandbox.

Obsidian Great sword and full plate armor and potions? I just used the bow. Its so easy with a good bow. Just run around, dodge the attacks, and your fun. I dont even think i had any thing plate on.

I weird feeling. I'm starting to get the feeling that I might be at the end of this game. I kinda peeked at the full map of the game and I was stuned that I am passed the circle of the dead....why...oh why does this game weeves SHORT paths instead of open land.
I might make me a new game before I get too far. I just found out that after 24 days passing in game i'm already in my 40s. No wonder my hair was white...
I'll decide what to do when I get me some rest.
I feel like Fable is a one night stand and Morrowind is the one I love. I'm having fun so far with Fable though, don't get me wrong.
