Cuz in the really real world Im 6'2 300 lbs and there are 2 things that keep people in the really real world from talking crap to me. Fear and common sense.
While we're talking about the really real world here, a midget can kill a giant if he's packin' heat. And I'm sure you've run into a few people that would rather take an ass beating then let you get off being an asshole for free. I'm 5'11 and wiegh 200 lbs., but mess with me and mine and I suddenly become the worlds most coniving bastard. In the really real world, you do whatever it takes to win (or at least walk away alive), and that doesn't always include going toe to toe with anyone. If a guy is 9 ft. tall and giving someone I care about a hard time, he's going to get a knife in his kidneys at the first opportunity. Some of us don't wave our dicks. We ask once, nicely, and then we gank you without a second thought before or after. And yes, we're still talking about the really real world. Scarey? You fuckin' bet it is. And in the really real world, you don't get to respawn or reroll a new character. That's why most of us act very nice to eachother in the really real world. The assholes die before they reach 25. Again, this isn't about "My dick is bigger than yours", it's about common sense. Humility isn't a weakness, it's a survival tactic. And I agree that anyone who links their self worth to a video game is a pitiful excuse for a human being.
I play mmo's to group with people to achieve a goal , and to make friends in the process. I do enjoy PVP in some settings but its not my preference. What makes me hate PVP is the immature people who run around ganking people WAY below them, but run from a fair fight. now im not saying all PVP'ers are like this but ALOT are. Heck in WOW on a pvp server its not uncommon for a FULL group of 60's runnning around a newb zone in gank squads killing everyone for no benifit to them whatsoever. This is all to common in PVP settings and MOST gamers want to group and have fun, not be harrased buy some jerk who lives to gank newbs. Im not Flamming people who like to PVP at all(i like it in some settings myself) , but you get alot of people (like one in this thread who im not nameing) who ruin it for the rest and make it not as enjoyable to the rest of us. This one of the BIG reasons im gonna play Vanguard, and alot of other people i have sspoken to and read posts from.

Another problem with the debate is that many times, PvE's are by far more articulate, and vehement about what they want, and don't want. They are tired of being ganked, griefed, and corpse camped. The image of the "average" PvP player doesn't help either:
"omfg i pwn u lawl, lawl, stfu l2p" (without the commas)
PvE players see this and think the player behind the keyboard is just a douche who wants to gank you, and after he does it, wants to desecrate your corpse and show you how much better at life he is...
You're right, in the PvP realm, we have some (a lot?) of those, unfortunately, they are the more vocal side of the debate. Mostly because it is rare for a game to say "Absolutely NO PvE!", instead of the one we hear more often "No PvP".
The mature PvPers will have already moved onto the next game in the list, looking to see if it has what they require. The immature PvPer will stop, spam the forums for an hour or two, with why this game will "Fail misterably because it lacks PvP." Only they will say it far less eloquently, and with far more cursing and degrading.
So yes, I am a PvPer, and yes I do believe that no game can be truly complete with out PvP. It is necessary for many reasons. 1. Sense of adventure/risk. 2. Immersion into the setting (RP). 3. Competition (In general, AI is not going to be as good as a human player, whether they can spell or not )
So the next time you see the 13 year old jerk on the forums, please be reminded that A. He'll grow up, and B. He is not representative of the PvP Community on the whole, only half of us.

I agree with 1. 2. 3. , and you are right the jerks are louder and more vocal side of the PVP'ers. PVP if done right can add alot to a game, as you stated very well above. Most games add PVP as an afterthought and normally dosent tend to work as well as games that had it planned from the beggining. It is true the "13 year old jerks" do tend to give all PVP'ers a bad name, and when i rant about "gankers" it is them that im refferring to not the good ones such as yourself /bow.
Its goes both ways, we all are douche's behind a keyboard in a way. I just prefer to remove players from the dungeon or cave I am in (especially if they are elves, elves are better off dead), instead of being FORCED to either work with them, or leave the area.
Player 1: "Is this camp taken?"
Player 2: "Yes, and im not leaving, or adding you to my group!"
In a PvE world:
Player 1: "crai" <walks away>
In a PvP world:
Player 1: "DIE!" <chops off player 2's head with an axe>
EDIT: Actually in a PvE world, player 1 can just say Player 2 took his spawn away, and have a CCR remove them.... even if it WASNT his spawn. Most games dont record how long you have been in one spot. Usually tho, CCR's wont interfear, thus Player 1 can jsut take the camp for himself.

I think ppl that fear/hate PVP is because in PVP there are so many shithead kids that enjoy ganking lower levels. They ruin the fun for everyone them fuckers.
Now if you could lvl while PvPing there would be a lot more PvPers. I get the feeling that a lot of people PvE mostly to get to a higher LvL to PvP. I feel the some way. PvE is fun but when I want to PvP I want to PvP and sometimes I feel PvE gets in the way.
