Horizons is doomed

Anyone think Horizons will be a SWG repeat? It is only 90+% done and they hope to finish everything else with a giant patch.

and how can you say it's doomed.....i'd wait about 2 or 3 weeks after the US reliese to deside....if hundreds of people complain .....it's doomed.....you can't really predict everything until you see what was saved for the release

100s of people have complained. Just about every beta tester had something bad to say. I dont want Horizons to be bad, but the beta testers have shredded apart every detail and it isn't reassuring.

If it's 90% complete, then it's a LOT more polished than quite a few MMORPGs.  AO wasn't even at 90% when it came out (in my opinion), but it has been polished and now is one of the most enjoyable MMORPGs out there.  Don't expect perfection and you won't be disappointed.  They have to make sure most of the major bugs are worked out before they can start implementing non-essential elements.

Once again you really can not judge a game on beta.
As with all MMORPG the true game is 3 months down the road.

The betas I read feedback from only talked about gameplay. They liked crafting, disliked combat. That's about the only consensus I've seen.

Give it a chance to come out and we'll see what we'll see. If, in four months, people are still complaining about broken classes and missing houses, as in SWG, you'll have your answer.

I really don't think that it is doomed..nor do I think that the launch is going to be anywhere near the level of Star Wars Galaxies..sure there are some things that need to be fixed..there are in everygame.  I think that we also have to look to the fact that the Euro launch has gone well and that they have over 5000 already per server..so that bodes well.

The question you've REALLY gotta ask yourself is, "why is this keeping up nights?" ;-)

I don't think it will be doomed, or at least we should give it a chance. From all the bad reviews I've read I still think, like Tarthus, that if it's only 90% complete it still has the potential to be a lot better than most MMORPGs out there. The combat is supposedly very boring, but when you look at most other MMORPGs (I haven't played many mind, this being what I've read) the combat has never really been really fun from what I've seen. Once Horizons is out and stable, I think we should look at it again then, and who knows it could be a great game.image

HZ I believe will do fineimage.  It's not going to be like the other releases this year.  SB and RoE were non starters - didn't stand a chance.  Although HZ isn't garenteed to join the big boys of MMORPG's it at least (In my opinion) it has a chance.  Lets hope Atari don't screw up the release in the US like they have done in Europe or there are going to be a lot of very angry people about.

Horizons will die a quick death since it has nothing going for it that really seperates it self from other MMORPG's. Star Wars Galaxies is a perfect example of this as it's a piece of garbage but the fact it is a 'Star Wars' game saved it, for now, from disaster, Horizons doesn't have that.

From what I've heard so far, Horizons seems to have taken a single aspect of existing MMORPGs, crafting, and built an entire game around it. Sounds like they've done a great job of that, but lost sight of why a lot of other people play these games, and perhaps paid too little attention to the rest of the gameplay experience, like combat.

    We'll see I guess.

Saying its 90% done is a bold statement.

At the end of beta I have a hard time saying its 80%

And where would you say SWG was at on release?  Personally, I thinking 77'ish %.

OK. Horizons wasn't really doomed...er...isn't...it is pretty decent...Unplayable...but decent. There are too many clipping bugs, like falling through the floor and many lag-outs. Trees eating you so you have to do /stuck or /help to get out alive from the tree's belly. Rocks are hungry too. The land is pretty and the soundtrack and backround music is similar to DAOC. Combat is interesting in a train-wreck sort of way. My Sslik flies himself on a zombie to attack. The weapon doesn't swing...he just
flies. That is weird. If anyone who has Horizons wants to discuss further, I'd be happy to share my opinions.

I was in the Horizons beta and for the most part, the game was enjoyable. I was probably one of the last group of betatesters accepted into the beta - I got in beta Oct 27th. The NDA has been lifted now regarding gameplay experience, so I will divulge some info. When I first got into beta, the jamming at Receiving Character Information problem was a real PITA. The Devs did try to fix it, and eventually fixed it about 2 weeks before beta ended.

I would say however that some of the patches/versions actually caused more problems than the previous ones although they did fix issues from previous patches. An example that comes to mind is version 6.6.6 of the game. A lot of betatesters who were in the same guild that I was in were joking about "the number of the Devil": That patch intensified the lag, jam and crash problems which was already in the game. It was fixed in version 6.7.6.  I put up with the lagging out of game and game jamming problems since the game was fun.

While I wouldn't say that the game is totally unplayable, HZ does have lag out problems where players would get booted out during teleporting/recall, etc. Mostly I just craft in the game: I was lvl 18 Blacksmith and 16 Weaponsmith when the beta ended. Combat was somewhat boring due to the nerfing of some healing spells, combat stances, spells, etc. A number of betatesters were complaining about the lack of PvP in the game taking the fun out of it. But if they had joined a decent guild which has members hunting regularly, they can hunt higher level mobs, which in HZ, IMO just as good as PKing other players. I've only betatested the adventure classes Warrior, Cleric, Spiritist, Mage and Paladin but I don't find combat lacking in the game. Although when they nerfed the healing spells, it sort of sucked since paladins are then no longer "Cleric Tanks".

Horizons as all games will come out bugged, if you think about it.  Anarchy Online was THE absolute worst game to have been released and to say it was 90% complete was a bold statement.  Now, the game has been polished and has survived the reapers wrath on shelf life.

As all games do, this will also need some time to get better.  Give a MMORPG that was recently released 3 months before you buy it.  That way you know the news of what's going on, and you know that things are being taken care of.  It will also save you the hassle of having to deal with a lot of the major bugs.  Do the same with Horizons, dont doubt this game until their major patch comes out.

A lot of you are judging a game off of a Beta.  Betas are the worst part of the game, they're the finalization of all that will be complete.  It's a stage to fix massive bugs and many other things as well.  The team of people that played this game went through a lot of hard times, the worst a gamer could imagine.

Just wait and see, you might be suprised with this game.  To me, it sounds like a gem in a world of sand.

Those problems are all gone now, there are no lag and no disapering NPCs.

It is not like the beta at all, I think they must have had a test server on the side, coz when I logged in monday there were alot of changes. Interfaces was changed no lag what so ever, not any bugs left, nothing.

The game is 100% working and it will only get better. This is the best game I have played and I will keep on playing it. I dont know why so many ppl dont like the game? Ppl who hasent even played it, and to all beta players, try the real thing first then complaine. There are a lot of ppl reading about horizons and might just miss a chance to play a great game coz a lot of ppl say it sucks.

I have played the beta and im now playing on the euro server ice, if you think the game look good and the strukture sounds good, then buy it. Its everything it is set out to be.
