I will probably play the game, it is hard to find an objective view of this game. So i will form my own opinion of it. I realize that the game wil have little content when it comes out and that it will have lots of bugs. The features they promise are what i look for in a mmorpg. Wether they have these features at launch, i dont rally care, as long as they work to complete it.
I will probably play WoW most of the time and play DnL causaly.
I know I won't be playing DnL in April. Even if it's released in April
I lost faith in the dev team and their abilities when they released SoG. I have better hopes for Vanguard as they aren't noob developers, have Microsoft behind and a pretty good communication.
----------------------------------------- There are 10 kind of programmers. Those who understand binary code and those who don't.
Release dates can be pretty tricky. Someone noted that they had originally posted a Dec '02 release date which surprised me quite a bit. I really had no idea they've been working on this for that long. I haven't gotten into SOG, but from what I've seen it looks more like a recent dev instead of something that's been in the works for over 3 years. I can still forgive the occasional set back. That happens with just about every game and especially MMO's. That said, I think if I had been waiting for this thing to really happen for that long I'd already have lost interest.
I've heard some really good testimonies about the game, but then what else are they going to stick on their website right. The ideas that the Devs are trying to get going in game do sound like a fledgling next gen MMO, but with the number of posts here talking about the false promises and lack of customer consideration doesn't really make me too hopeful. It was the complete lack of consideration and respect for their client base that is devistating SWG. As I see it: It doesn't matter how great your graphics are or how amazing your combat system is, if you don't keep your customers happy they aren't going to stick around long enough to pay the bills.
I'm still torn on DnL, but I appreciate the info you guys have offered so far.
Actually it was Dec 02. then a couple more dates in '03, then a few more in '04, add some more in '05, then the "gift" in last month of '05, then April 1, now April 27
I think you'll find it is still in a closed beta, i.e. they dont let people who have nothing ebtter to do than flame in. Secondly the meds are high enough, i didnt waste my time quoting him, and besides it was against the drs advice. you may call it a bad dev team, but at least they aint released the 'bad' product. You dont have to trust or belive were the evidence came from, you took the time to read and reply so there for you must think thier is some truth in it. I may well be part of the lame dev team that you will never know. Secondly if you re-read same developers full new team for the SG game. yes they have tared the company with a bad brush, but still people will wait. Funily enough i belive it can be a spectacular game, i belive the company can not be trusted. They have put enough doubt in peoples minds to say that you need to buy this game to really find out, marketing stratergy? I belive so.
The purpose of a beta is to have the players flame the game. the worst thing a dev team can do is have nothing but fanbois in the beta just taking turns licking the devs nether regions. Look at the massive changes EQII had to go through after release thanks to their friends and family and EQ Legends program of beta testing. Anyway it does not matter I don't they have a ice cubes chance in hell of this POS releasing in in April anyway.
I have to agree with Jackdog on this one. You need beta testers who are going to be highly critical and very picky about the most minute of details. At the same time testers should be able to offer some constructive criticism when possible. It's not just about telling the Dev team how much the suck (lol).
yeah id love to see a beta where people looked at both good and bad, but being that its psychologically near impossible for a human to do this (see halo complex for more info) its not gunna happen, so once again were left with fanbois, flamers and a product that will either flop or succed, i suggest DnL team gets in fanbois with decent gaming standards, or a bomber. Yes i think a bomber is definatly there best bet, can claim on the insurance, and pretend they had a better product, this is logical for them.
There is a post here on these boards regarding Testers/Devs that pretty much sums up both a testers job and a devs job. Being a beta tester is not that hard at all. And yes you do want to give them a kudos on something that is working out right in all respects and yes you want to slam them in the wall when something is wrong. A good tester can do both. A good dev team can take those praises and crits and work them out. I have been in Betas where bugs were reported and whammo, next day they are fixed! - where major probs were reported, devs kept updates on the prob and very soon were fixed! - where suggestions were made and very soon they were implemented or explained why they couldnt be or shouldnt be implemented! Heck, one beta even had a player satisfaction rating going on a continuing basis for the beta testers!
Responsibility on both sides is not really that hard when organization, professionalism and experience are in place.
Problem is DNL has none of that. Even part of the dev team are the fanbois ( - unless of course, they were on the dev team all along and only acting as fanbois to help hype the game and do damage control in player satisfaction. With Farlan, you cant tell as their sneaky shady business/game practices are way outta hand. )
With the recent Q&A - kudos to Farlan for telling some of the truth.
But again, much like the game they spit out, they fall short of even a seemingly sincere status of the game for the players and thus turned off even more potential players. Leaving yet again, another bad aftertaste. When are they going to learn the ins and outs of business? Being known for upfront responsibility and honesty is a businessman's greatest asset. Perhaps with a professional marketing/ PR person they could have achieved that. Instead they went the con artist way. Disappointment yet again.
