i got UK version but how do i join US server?

in Guild Wars
i have only noticed this when i try to join my friend server/district.  I seem to have bought a UK version of GW and my friends got a US version. so is there a way i can join his server or anyway server we can play together?

    At the character selection screen, in the lower left corner, there is an 'Edit Account' button.
    There you can change from european to american districts.
