In summary, the new game should it be made should have instanced housing, be focused more on the GCW, be set after the the Battle of Endor, should have better space content with player housing on capitol ships, should or shouln't be class based, allow for change over in planetary control based off of war efforts, a good crafting system and have more indepth content.
And if you missed all of that, it may well have been because the indepth discussion of class versus skill based systems which may well deserve its own thread. Thanks to those who participated. Loved the ideas and maybe some will carry over. Good night and Good luck.
Shayde, Okay, first in balancing combat you have to look at more than just the combat professions. For instance you've included Creature Handler. Well now you've included Bio-Engineers in your Combat Balance. Their pets have everything to do with a CH's combat ability. Now that you've included Bio-Engineers, you've just dragged Droid Engineers into the mix. Since they are the other pet making profession.
You also haven't included Jedi (or haven't included some other combat profession that should be there) so now we're talking about 15 professions that need to be balanced.
We've recognized that there are other professions that need some Dev Love to, but what you propose is that the Devs ignore all that while they work on combat balance. So how long do you think it would take the devs to balance the game if that's all they worked on? I mean it's been 7 years and AO, UA, or EQ haven't done it yet. So you'd suggest the Devs ignore all the other professions for another 4 1/2 years to maybe try and do something that's NEVER BEEN DONE.
I don't know how many more times I'll say this before I realize you just won't see it, but those are the facts. There are NO MMO's that are balanced, yet you seem to think the SWG devs can accomplish what no one else has been able to. No wonder you hate them so much, you expectations are so high you think they're the best developers that have ever coded a game.
What you fail to understand is that "balance" is unnecessary. They can get them in a ballpark, then after that let them go. It is the PVP whiners that just bitch that their carbineer can't WTFPWN a swordsman in melee that makes them crazy.
And on a related note.. the latest Variety talks about the pay-for-"free" direction of mmorpgs... and mentions this...
"Not all games are set up around the buying and selling of items, which would make it very difficult to take a game like 'Star Wars Galaxies' and make that transition," she says. But, she adds, when "Star Wars Galaxies 2" is developed -- perhaps in 2008 or 2009 -- things will be different. "If we were starting to build 'Star Wars Galaxies' today, we would absolutely consider building it from the ground up with premium services."
Soesn't look good that SWG2 will be a non-$OE product.. but we can hope.
