Looking for a mmoRPg

I have tried several mmo's over the last few years, and I have yet to find a game where people actually roleplays, and has a decent population. The game with the most serious roleplay i've encountered has been neverwinter nights. (although it is not a mmo)
Does anyone know a mmo, or similar online roleplaying game, which is up to date visually (preferably) and has a large amount of players who take roleplaying at least half serious?

Everquest II has a great Roleplaying server, and very mature players.
Visually the best out there. Also Roleplaying in EQ2 is great as most NPC has voices etc, makes u feel like you are in a real interactive world. Good stuff. Deffently the best for roleplaying (and I have tested alot of the mmorpg out there).
If you minus the bit about the graphics.
Underlight is roleplaying.

You may give a try to Ryzom, which has pretty graphics. There are several roleplay guilds there. The english server isn't really crowded, but in a good guild you'll be fine

You should give Vanguard Saga Of heroes a try, alot of older gamers are joining the ranks of this game. It should become a nice gaming environment.
Only problem is it isn't released yet, so you will have to hold out and wait for it like me, But Eve online also has some VERY good roleplaying in the game, and its different because of the SCI-FI twist on things.
So thats about all i got to recommend.

Hold out for Heroes Journey.. they are doing some incredible stuff and cater to roleplay and storyline.

One of the things that games rarely do is give players a springboard to roleplay off of.
OK, for example, errr, the game might describe Wood Elves as having a love of nature, but getting into this "nature lover" roleplay is usually not very well supported. Nor are any of the other lore-based descriptions of the various avatars.
Contrast this with the simple act of morphing a player-character into an animal form, such as a bear, a bird, a tiger or wolf.
Instantly, both RP'ers and non-RP'ers alike seem to sense that they now have "something to roleplay."
I have noted that even non-RPer's, once morphed into some cool animal form, will suddenly stop "speaking" and will begin to roleplay as if they were that animal by doing emotes or "grrr" and such things like that -- which is both cool and fun.
Like ... tell me to be a nature-lovin' Elf ... blah, boring.
But let me be a blood-thirsy, evil Vampire who can change into a wolf, or mist, or can climb walls and suck the life outta people: Boom! Insta-roleplay. And fun too.

When first starting out, building a strong crew is the best way to go. Keep your happiness levels up, or else your units will start to leave you. If all else fails to keep your operatives happy raise the payroll, see what makes each group happy. Glocks are the best for a starter, when you can afford it go straight up to AK's. Cars can make a difference while doing a drive-by or being attacked. Best car to get, of course, is the S-CLass Limo but if u cant afford it go with the next best for you. The last thing to remember is try everything in the game!! If you don't like the city you're in, leave! If you aren't making enough money try other ways to get money (attack someone in your range) but this is the real Mafia World "an eye for an eye, an arm, and a leg"
