People love the idea, people hate the idea. The truth is, we will never know what kind of MMORPG will make it unless someone has the guts to try it out. Yea, a super hero online game? Maybe tons of comic book fans will play it. Maybe a few comic book fans will play it, and they'll have a ton of people play it who never read a comic book in their life. The point is, you never know how something will turn out unless you TRY IT. I, for one, have been looking forward to this game for months. It sucks that you cant be a villian upon release, but they say they may add that later. No PvP either, which sucks, but I get the feeling that will be added later, too. I just think people need to stop bashing ideas because they aren't the 'fantasy' game that people are used to playing. Maybe this game will bomb, but maybe it will be a surprise hit. My only problem so far is that I probably will never be chosen for betaimage

Same with me image. It said on the website that they were picking the players that were one of the few that had registered to their forum, so I didnt have much of a chance on getting picked. Can't wait for it to come out though! image

I have been waiting for this game since I heard about it. I have a friend who wants to be the villian as well. I don't mind if they bring it into the game but I hope it is limited to certain servers.

I don't like PvP. The closest I have played that I enjoyed has been RvR in DAoC. I am not saying PvP is bad. I am just saying I prefer playing a game where everyone is a hero. That is main reason this game attracts my attention.

I won one of the contest and I don't think about getting in beta. If I do great but WoW and CoH are the two that I don't want to hope for that way will be overjoyed for being selected.

I was thinking that maybe they could separate the town into evil and good sections...kind of like EverQuest has good cities and evil cities.  The evil characters would find safety in the slums but would be attacked in the more reputable part of town.  The opposite goes for good guys, they would be attacked in the slums, but would be welcome in the better parts of town.  Just an idea.  image

Anyonw know if there will be a PvP server ????? Having a all around evil and good Cities of PvP would be Great  ( I know that there will be a Battlefield for the Pvp on each server )

Need to read the thread before asking a question......image

No PvP in CoH at release, it may be something they add later though.

This game looks like it would be really fun, but as for calling this a new genre i doubt.  Even if this game is a really big hit, i don't think that there is to much room for expansion.  I doubt that i will ever have to make a choice between two super hero games, and if i do, i hope that it is only between City of Heroes and City of Heroes 2.  I do hope that this game is good though because it looks like a lot of fun.

I am interested to see some of the more advanced gameplay options....like the different kinds of quests they have for higher levels..that is always a good way to tell if they made a lot of high end content...if the quests repeat and you do the same ones over and over again..not a good game at all.  Hopefully CoH won't be like this :)

As I've stated before, there will be PvP arenas and there are also plans for a villian expansion that will allow players to be villians and fight against the hero players. I'm not sure if these plans will actually become a reality but we can hope.

Either way I don't see any other way to have PvP in this game since the game is about heroes and heroes don't usually fight against each other.

By the way, don't ask me where I got this info, because the only thing I remember is that I read it on the official CoH forums a long time ago.

I wouldn't hold my breath to be a villian.

I agree with the previous poster about not holding your breath on being a "villain"

The game is called City of Heroes for a reason, and throughout the development cycle of the game the devs have made it pretty clear that they are focusing on the -heroes-

Something about the idea of being one just doesn't sit right with me, personally.  It is one thing in DAoC where you are fighting for your realm and the "bad guys" are only bad guys relatively to you.  To the people in their realm, they are good guys.  Villains are not ever good guys.  Then there's the idea that evil will always lose (especially in a game, much less one called city of heroes) So where's the real impetus coming from to play the villain?  Is it perhaps in some attempt to force the opposite and have evil triumph?  Not that there will not be victories for the bad guys here and there but actually having evil win completely?

That just doesn't sit right with me.  If it sounds like a fun idea to someone, that is pretty troubling as well.

Then there's the other side of the coin that says: it's just a game image  so I dunno what to think

I dont understand people that dont want to be villians. image

Seriously, most people in the current generation have been lied to, stepped over, treated like a number, and generally lost faith in "the hero establishment."

Why is it so hard that someone might find good in fighting good?  Its boring to keep doing the same thing for the same reasons. Evil is sexy. Good can be boring.  Its boring to wait till marriage for sex. Its boring to never speed in your car.

Why people have to crush the hopes of those who want a villian expansion is beyond me.  If people want it...and you dont see why...just leave them be. Dont say "itll never happen, why would you want that?"

The Hero part of the game should be just as fun. I think we all want to try out the powers and have fun with flying, leaping, blasting.

    I hope I win the contest :)

It really doesn't matter what people want. I say don't hold your breath, because if you think about it, the amount of effort to really put villains into that game they way they currently have it designed would be so huge as to be a bit foolish on their part. They're much better off getting this game off the ground, then either putting that effort into another game or including villians in a ground up expansion of CoH II.

Oh I dont want the villians at first release. I just want a good solid hero game. Hell, that will be enough for me. If they do it in an exansion that will be icing on the cake.

I just hate it when people reject the idea of villians out of hand as a kneejerk reaction. image

Dont reject it just because you dont like it right now. If others want it, dig deeper to see what it could offer, not post to prove them wrong.
