Wait for something like the Chronicle which also has open skills. Heros Journey which is a rper's dream or Wurm Online which probably has the best crafting ever, but the devs are kind of rotten. Downloading the u5 mod now.. that looks sweet!!

I'm sick of people bashing Irth, I'm quite sure they are the people who played for 5 minutes in beta and then decided to troll any forum about it for the next 5 years. I personally think the IGN boards are full of the worst people you can meet on a gaming board, but OP dude, just try the game out, if you like it, great!, If you don't, fuck.
Oh, and from what I hear, The Chronicle isn't going to be largely like UO.
Edit: Well, I screwed up the quoting, and can't fix it, but I still have my dignity.

IRTH is one I'm watching but they aren't going to get me to try it till they lighten up on the restrictions on that "free trial". Seriously... how the hell is someone supposed to get any clue whether they'd like the game or not when it wipes their toons every 48 hours and, on top of that, restricts them from trying PVP?
Till they give a fully open 14 day free trial I'm staying the hell away from Irth.

1. It is not a 2-Day RL-Trial, its a charwhipe after 48 h Gamplay with that peticular char. This makes tring out hte game a lot easyer because you can play one toon abit let it pause play an other with different skills do some RL like holidays and the toons will not run of like it is with most 14-trials. Plaing a char 48 h is quite a time to get a feeling. if playing 6h a day its 8 days.
2. PVP is restricted thats correct. But if you know how PvE works and can watch PvP beween other Players it gives you the feeling if you like it or not. In lots of other games you could do PvP if you had the abilites to use the appropriate weapon. If you play for example the EVE-Trial you cant do PVP because the Pirates are that much better equiped and have that better ships tha they blow you away bevor u can fire a shot and there is no chance of just watching the PvP, because everyone in the insecure Areas is pray to the Priates. This is in most games handled different to irth but the devs of irth like it the other way. If you think of it you can do in no game real PVP as it is later in game. In Irth you wiould at the end of the trialperiod as easy be onestrike killed as in any other game. A MMORPG is designed that the Players have hundrets of hours chardevelopment till they need a expansion.
Why dont you just really test irth? The game is not finished but neither was any other MMorpG at publishing and the 48 gamply PER CHAR give you the posibility to look as often in the game as you like. if its now not finished enough for your likeing, you can still come back in a few weeks or month if your out of other games and look again, can you do that with the 14-days trials?

Hello, I was owner of the second Irth Online fansite ever, big supporter of the game and part of the private voluenteer QA section plus channel operator on official Irth Online irc channel...I lived, breathed, eated the game untill I was up for a very rude awakening at the end of beta.
This game does have potential but I won't be able to sleep at night if i'd make someone to pay for this game...ALOT of the promised features have been missing...wonder capture was supposed to be in for beta (I have irc chat log with the lead developer saying so) and when asking about that I was called a liar and they stated they never said anything like that....many other features spoken about in dev chats and such were forgotten, they said "We never said so!" after deleting the old dev chat logs and whole forums from their messageboards before testers could quote them...dear god if they would have said "We will be launching half-arsed game that hardly works and feature-wise reminds more of a virtual chatroom" they would have saved alot of time from me.
They also promised that the amount of developers working on the game will multiply after release...well, they've lost quite few, none that i know of has came in. The bugs stay in game for months and new features are hardly implemented just because the developer team is very underesourced and the programming department consists of 3 nearly burnt out programmers and a parakeet.
just about only real content that has been thrown in is more static quests and more trees and houses on the still so blank world map.
The game is free for now (you only need to pay for the cd-key) but will start monthly-fee in a month or so and by then you can expect to see this train wreck for good.
The developers of this game truly broke hearts of many hardcore fans like myself and by what I've heart, there's lawsuit case raisen against them by bunch of ex-employees according suspected trademark infrigments and other things.
The fact I gave away the free cd-key I got pretty much sums up the hopes I have left for the game.
Very interesting post Kishe, I'll say it, Irth, in it's current state isn't tremendously good, but take a look at AO, FunCom had the most fucked up launch ever, but AO is still going reasonably strong, and will remain so for a while, Irth improves nearly every day.
P.S: I know I avoided most, if not all your points, but that is because I can't think of anything intelligent to say to them.

Star Wars Galaxies. ALL the UO game DEVs came from UO, and created SWG. Some even went back to UO, heheh. (I still remember you Sunsword! ). SWG is unofficially UO2. Everything Raph Koster aka Designer Dragon wanted to build on in UO, he put in SWG.
I will say this.... SWG during its first 4 months of release was better than SWG right now. (in my personal opinion, it was the most perfect mmorpg ever created - during its first 4 months of release.)With the exception of the SE (Space Expansion.), and Player Cities.
Is the current SWG worth checking out now? Only if $50.oo will not break your budget. If you are in absolutly no way a Star Wars fan, then I would say it is not worth checking out SWG, even if it is unofficially UO2. If you are an ultra-hardcore UO fan, AND you do not mind plunking down $50.oo (meaning it won't break your budget) then SWG is worth checking out for you. Especially the housing, which is one of the most obvious things DesignerDragon aka Holocron aka RaphKoster had planned for UO2 and put in SWG. It completly blows away the housing system in UO. No waiting to place a house. You can make a house with basements, balconies, go onto the rooftop. Plan the floor layouts, get a tiny house all the way up to mansion-sized houses, and much more.

From what everyone is saying about Irith, it on purpose promised soo many features, which players later found out were never put in. Is Irith still in beta? Has Irith been released yet?
AO on the other hand did not suffer from taking out features it promised to have. AO had a bad launch because of one big, horrible, game bug. It had a brutal memory leak. Their game DEVs took far too long to acknowledge it. Even after players in the 1st month of release correctly diagnosed what the problem was. (What is it with mmorpg game DEVs thinking NONE of their players might be real life computer programers? Who know as much as they do? And maybe some things they do not know? LOL!
AO's brutal memory leak litterally made the game unplayable, no matter how high end one's computer system was. It took roughly 1 year for the AO game DEVs to acknowledge what the problem was, and to fix it. AO was very, very, barely able to turn itself around aka re-coup all its investment money. One thing is definatly for sure - AO could have, SHOULD have, been a far bigger success than it was, and currently is. First impressions are everything. It still is one of the most revolutionary MMORPGs ever created. Bringing in tons, and tons, of original, never used before, ideas to mmorpgs. UO, AO, EvE, and SWG, have been the most revolutionary mmorpgs created so far. (Bringing not 1, not just a few, but TONs of new ideas into mmorpgs.)

Saw that in the thread that was linked here. Thanks for the clarification. I was under the mis-impression that it was a 48RL hour trial... site needs to word it better methinks... I will probably download the trial Though I will probably give them another month or so before I monkey with it.
2. PVP is restricted thats correct. But if you know how PvE works and can watch PvP beween other Players it gives you the feeling if you like it or not. I dunno... I like to actually experience PVP first hand before determining if I like it or not. My biggest gripe was the 48hr trial aspect now that it's clear it's 48 hours GAME time that's a whole different ball of wax... for me that's like 24 days LOL which is fine.
Have tried it. I was in the beta and just didn't feel it was ready for release at all. Too many things that added up to making it "not worth my money" at the time. As I said I'll go ahead and DL the trial now that it's been clarified that that's Game time
As to the whole "no game is released finished" arguement... seen it... heard it... dissagree with it. When DAOC and EVE came out they absolutely WERE complete and quality games. As was EQ1 and as was Asheron's Call (though they had server stability issues). Sure there were minor bugs in those titles but NOTHING on the order that is released in games these days. Shoddy unfinished games didn't really start being released till later after publishers started seeing players use the "it's an online game they're always a work in progress" arguements. At that point the 'myth' became a 'reality' and game companies started releasing crap that would be 'patched later'.
See you around G³D
You too... but prolly not for a while. Very happy in DAOC but I'll certainly give it a go once I have some more free time available.

2 months ago SWG would have been a good alternative to UO. No longer. It's just another level grinder now. They completely re-did the game. It is ***NOTHING*** like UO anymore. Nothing.

I dunno... I like to actually experience PVP first hand before determining if I like it or not. My biggest gripe was the 48hr trial aspect now that it's clear it's 48 hours GAME time that's a whole different ball of wax... for me that's like 24 days LOL which is fine.
You too... but prolly not for a while. Very happy in DAOC but I'll certainly give it a go once I have some more free time available.

2 months ago SWG would have been a good alternative to UO. No longer. It's just another level grinder now. They completely re-did the game. It is ***NOTHING*** like UO anymore. Nothing.
