Many people after they hit 60 in WoW get dissapointed and come to play EQ2. EQ2 is growing, little by little and even by attracting old WoW players...
It will be even more challenging for SoE after Vanguard And Heroes Journey will come out. And of course Oblivion even though it's not MMO. But quite a few players will stop playing EQ2 for a while to play Oblivion.

Also just from the official announcment regarding 5 million customers... "World of Warcraft's Customer Definition World of Warcraft customers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or purchased a prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the installation box bundled with one free month access. Internet Game Room players that have accessed the game over the last seven days are also counted as customers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired pre-paid cards. Customers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules. "
C'mon stop deleting my posts.......Im not that vulger!!!
Anyway, My deleted post said that the population of everquest 2 has gone up, in fact almost doubled since May,
So what you said about eq2 id full of *poop* and you dont know what your talking about.
I just dont understand the need for people to argue about things that were fixed 5 months ago or more.
Plus eq2 has had so many more patches, free content, paid content then WoW.
19 Live updatse that give free content, 2 adventure packs for under 10.00 that add raids and zones, kinda like little expansions, and now 2 expansions.
Not to mention all the little patches ware they add quests, spells, and armour.
WoW has gotten 9 Live updatse, and like 3 new zones no expansions in the Year+ its been out.........And people call SOE mony hungry??????

You have no idea about just how much this situation amused me. Not for the OP, it suck for him. But all the teases going into my head to throw at SoE devs who always think rewarding raiders best, than groupers and finally soloers...those tease are purely delicious!
Happy soloers are the only thing that could help save those low population servers, since they doesn't care if they are alone...more of them would appreciate the lag free server and join...than, unlike popular beliefs, soloers are potentially recruitable for groups...and you get the picture. But, a visit to grandma is more appealing than solo in EQ2...or about the same!
Solo is the base...and solo uberness belong to soloers...I am having ton of fun reading such a post, thanks OP!

EQ2 made the fatal mistake of a bad first impression. I can't stress this enough.
Once you release your MMORPG, that state in which it is released is what will stick in players minds the most. This is why even with all the changes they are trying to make, it won't matter as much as if they (SOE) had taken their time and done it right the first time, instead of making such a big deal of beating WoW to market.
I simply don't see EQ2 having any major change in success. The honeymoon is over. The game is pretty much as good as its ever going to get from a subscription standpoint. Furthermore, once the new wave of MMORPG's hits the market (Vanguard, DDO, etc) the subs will start dropping even more, not going up.

1/2/2006 EVE Players greet the New Year At 20:44 this evening a new PCU milestone was reached when 22.020 EVE Players were logged in at the same time. CCP's hardware partners are working around the clock to deliver more power to the Tranquility cluster so that the regiment of one unsharded virtual world with no instancing can hold.
18k, huh? So tell us again... Who doesn't know what they're talking about?

okay, so i was off by 4000.......... becausse there is only 1 server, and when i played they only ever had around 18k
4000 off isnt a big deal
thinking that a game is dead when its running strong is
I was just using eve as an example to sow that most MMO's dont have 5 mil, when a popular game like eve has around 18k

Off by 4,000???
So let me get this straight... You believe there are 22k players in EVE, and they ALL just happened to be logged in that day? Okay ...
I'm not trying to prove you wrong or anything else. I think you're doing quite a fine job of that all by yourself.
And please while you're at it, can we see a link to backup some of those numbers you're throwing around? What? Ahhh, I didn't think so.

The 450k number is from september article by NY Times. If you look around this forum its linked somewhere.
The other number is from mmorpgchart (or something like that), and in my personal opinion just pure guesswork. There is just no way Eq2 doubled its subs from may to september.
The game declining? Hardly. From what I see in game its increasing. Of course, you dont get the newbiezones packed with players like the first month. Thats pretty logical to me.
Anyway, I just dont understand why people keep comparing subs numbers. Eq2 got a massive support from the company that make it. There is another expansion 40 days away and a massive Update by the end of this month. The game is alive and kicking. I can understand that its not for everyone, but personally I think its a great mmorg.

QFT! Sony makes Blizzard look like a stuck up prissy snob compared to its hardworking self. You can say what you want about SOE, but as far as EQ2 is concerned, they have truly slaved over it. Before you say different, go do www.blizzard.com and check out the WoW update notes and then spend a few hundred hours at www.station.com and pour over the EQ2 update notes. There's no comparison. And if you say that's because WoW is so great and EQ2 was not, well that was then this is now. EQ2 rocks and WoW bores me to tears.
Judge the games as they are today and you will definitely agree that EQ2 is the choice of the educated gamer.

Okay, this is the last time i post this.
At launch the game was between 500k-600k supscribers
in may of 2005 it had under 250k
In november-december of 2005 it was back up to about 450k
Your right the game has no chance of survival and has stopped growing.
Please dont post if you dont have any idea about what your talking about.
especially when EVE has about 18k
the only game that has anything close to 5 mil is WoW so excluding that EQ2 is quite popular.
