Western Style MMORPG

Are there any Western style MMORPGs out there? I think one would do quite well, it would be a unique change from the fantasty style or sci-fi. With a sort of GunZ combat system and different factions, pvp shoot outs, raiding towns on horseys etc.

This does seem like a good idea.. i will have a look around the net to try and find one. After playing the game "Gun" at my friends house its given me an urge to play a western style mmo as well lol. I will post back if i find anything

Sounded like a good idea at first.  But if you would you need to shoot something 15 times to kill it, then it would lose the appeal.  When you start to lose the realism and grit of the old west it might start to get cheesy.  but if of course if it too real it becomes no fun.  I can think about those fantasy guys having armor so my blaster shots need to hit a few times or maybe some force field I can see is protecting them or something to suspense disbelief.  But in the old west it might just take you out of the world to shoot things over and over to kill them - also in the PC world we live in we could not have cowboys vs indians like back in the old days so no clear cut bad guys.

So it would be a hard game to develope for a large audience.  A mature audience game with drining, gambling, women, killing sounds like fun to me but might not to a studio trying to sell a lot of games. 

I have had the urge to play that Gun game, how did they handle the shoot something "X" times question?

Yes i see what you mean. It would lose a lot of the realism to make it anything like a normal MMORPG (Bosses etc). But their could be caves or towns which groups of bandits own and you have to take out the leader *boss* but he could be more skillfull like dodge shots more and he could have special weapons such as powerfull shotguns. It would be balanced up to a point as you would need to kill them and all of the other bandits rather than just going for a "boss" who can use a magic shield and cast spells etc :P

 

Letting my imagination get the better of me, oh well it still sounds like a good idea. Im sure if one of these style mmorpgs ever came out they would have a decent amount of players.

I think they ARE coming out with a Western Style MMORPG. I believe I saw something along those lines on betawatcher.com.

 I have been watching this western mmorpg for a year or so now. Hopefully they can get it going! Some really unique idea's for this game.

I wouldn't play unless it was very well done.

IE:
Having freedom to be a real bandit, not restricted like other games. OH! I LOST MY +5 AXE! I'M GONNA CRY TO THE DEVS TILL THeY CHANGE IT! or OH! HE SHOT ME IN TOWN! NO FAIR!
Having a good skill system and having a good crafting system.
