Ability to run eq2 and graph card question.

I was wondering what graphics card i should get with a 180$ budget?

also do u think i will be able to run eq2 on a system with the following specifications: 2.4 GHz cpu, 1.2 gig ram, the 180 graph card, with a vaio intergrated sound card?

You will be able to run it, but to run the game well? Very limited pc's will be able to do, unless you'd like to spend 3 grand on a machine.

That's why once people notice that the lag is crazy from either the game or the beta people will move to other games.

Well I think there are a few things you can do. The Radeon9000 is slightly slower than my 8500LE but with all the same bells & whistles.

I average over 40fps @ 10x7 with all details 'high' and usually hover around 60 in most games (except huge outdoor ones). I've only got an AMD XP2200+ which is about the same speed as yours and 512MB of good RAM (Corsair PC3000).

For around $200USD you can get a Built by ATI Radeon 9600XT (I think they come with 256MB onboard...?) which also sports the HL2 game for free, and for a few dollars more (maybe 20) you can get the ASUS 9600XT which has TIVO functions, better cooling and all the other stuff that the BBA Radeon offers.

You still wanna stay away from the nVidia cards as they still don't play with DX9 instructions the correct way (they only offer partial precision with decent speed=ugly looking or full precision at 1/2 of ATI's speed=ugly price/performance).

I would think the 9600 Pro (doesn't come with HL2) or 9600XT from almost any manufacturer (ASUS, ATi, Visiontek, Hercules, Sapphire, Powercolor etc) would be your best bet. The 9600 Pro's can be found on-line for around $150 and a lot are o/c'ing mofo's!!! Basicly, you want a nice card that will serve you well with later games. Search the net for much cheaper prices.

my radeon 9200 was 150 canadian so maybe 110-120 u.s. and it's not bad, but the 9800 pro is where it's at now for the new games.
