No offense, but why are you telling me this? I don't want a game like EVE. I was trying to use an example and you all took it as if I wanted an EVE type fantasy game. I just wanted to see a game where the focus of the community was not on getting to max level or end game asap. I also think endgame should only be half the game and not neccessarily the better half either. Grinding for 6 months would get really boring, like grinding for Jedi was. If you take grinding out of it and put a different leveling system in to where people can't rush to endgame and skip all the middle stuff, I think players of all levels will end up happier. I don't have all the answers nor a whole lot of ideas. It is not my job to do so, or to come up with a plan so you all can agree with me. My job as a gamer is to put an idea out there for developers to look at and expand on and fill in the gaps.
I think you missed my point. The newbie game wasn't revamped and leveling sped up to encourage or force people to "race to 50". In no way does it really affect the people who want to take their time and smell the roses along the way. What it does do is no longer force everyone else to stop and smell every rose along the way if they don't want to. It's all about giving the players choices, letting them play in the manner they want. EVE's system in no way encourages that. You're spending a month real time waiting for that skill point whether you play 12 hours a day or 12 hours a week. In my opinion DAoC's system is balanced very well for both the people who want to race to 50 or want to take their time along the way. The levels can come really fast, or slow with plenty of other things to do.

No offense taken nor did I intend to hand it out, you just triggered my EvE frustration/extremly overated button which resulted in this EvE Review from my personal experience.
I do see what you are trying to say though, DAOC is sooo much fun if you take your time exploring, learning, battlegrounding, grouping and making friends on your journey to 50. A wiseman once said it's not the destination that counts it's the journey to the destination (Stephen King, Dark Towers closing notes). Daoc however is a real treat since both the journey and the destination can be extremly fun and jummy....
He is truly a wise man indeed if he said such a thing. The journey for most the community in DAoC is an after thought compared to their quest for max level asap. I won't get into that again though. DAoC has came a long way and keeps getting better and better. I am proud to say that I believe DAoC to be the best well rounded game on the market at the moment. I would definitely recommend this game to any new comer. This game despite it's age has plenty of long years ahead of it.

I see your point and I agree. My complaint isn't really with Mythic, it's with the community. I challenge someone to name even 10% of the population on Gareth that will adventure with you outside of Catacombs TD's or ID's. You won't find it, because people are in a race to 50 with the misconception that the end game RvR is the only worthwhile content in the game. The classic map and SI has been all but forgotten. I know there aren't many people like me out there that prefer a non instanced game, but I think that's where it's at.
I'm not an instance gamer either...although once in a while it's fine for a change of pace...here's what I'm curious about...
I just installed the Epic edition this afternoon after running the 14-day trial. I'm a convert from WoW and I'm use to a HUGE community, albeit an awful one, yet undeniably HUGE. I like RP so I signed on the RP cluster (Nimue to be exact) and in two weeks I've met three people around my level (11 as of today).
This game has soooo much potential in the early levels (I've heard all about how great the end-game is already about a million times)...but with almost no one to join up with it ends up being a solo afair.
Here's what I sent to Mythic as a suggestion:
Open up a noob server (or convert a dead one if easier)...and force all players levels 1-10 onto that server (yes, even if you've played the game for 4 years since the beginning and have the medals to show it!). This would give anyone new to DAoC the opportunity to meet both experienced and unexperienced players and find the style of play that they enjoy...PvP, Co-Op, RP, Normal, whatever...also, it would give them some exposure to existing players that are in guilds and they might actually be able to meet someone that could get them into one (unlike now, where most are content to play within their existing guilds)...I've seen NO guilds recruiting in two weeks.
I'm NOT a serious MMO gamer...but I did spend a year in WoW, and I know how to play. I'm not sure there's a guild in DAoC currently that would want me, as I am really only out to have fun (not rise to the top of the realm point ranks). There are those that are getting turned off daily though, who would fit into many of the guilds in this game...mainly because there is just no community at low levels!
What do you all think? Good idea? Bad idea? Any open minds out there? Don't just slam my idea please unless you have a solution for a problem that might cause the end of your game (recruiting new blood).
We're currently looking into several different ideas to improve the low level community on the servers. We realize it needs help and it is definitely high on our priority list. Keep your eyes peeled on upcoming patches.
Richard J. Cox "There were much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust."
no /level to 20 there. But no ToA either, so if you like raid content and artifacts your sol. Give it time though as you gain levels more and more people will group with you. The problem is that most people dont want to smell the roses at level 10, or even 15, they want to get to 20 for thid, then they want to get to 35 for molvik, then 50 for rvr because thats where most (and I do not think everyone should be held to this same standard) find the rvr the driving force behind DAoC not the pve.

I guess what I'm saying is that the early levels would be more attractive to the new player trying out DAoC if they had an opportunity to run into more players of their level...and the game would keep them around instead of feel like they have to solo forever...the thing to remember is MOST new players no nothing of these bb's and don't realize the content down the road is great...they just see an empty community and drop out before it ever gets fun.
Hi, From what i hear this seems to be a pretty good game and the graphics look awesome, i am also from world of warcraft and i have been playing mmorpgs for years, and the game obviously has a good community since a mytic community manager is posting on a mmorpg site, ive never seen that before and blizzard certainly wouldnt do it, a few questions
-Do different races have different mounts, i dont think a troll or half ogre could ride on a normal humans mount?
-How long does it take to get to level 10, in WoW i can get to level 10 in 2-3 hours easily, how big is the leveling gap?
-Class abilities, do different classes share the same abilities? because i notice there is something like 44 different classes, in wow there is 9

1 - No, different races all have the same horse until Champion Level 5 where you can buy a steed that is different. Like a nightmare, undead horse, unicorn etc etc.
2 - Depends, if you do task dungeons you can get to 15 in 4 hours played if you are working fast, and do not take breaks, you can get to 10 in a couple of hours if you arent doing it casually, if you are getting to learn the area's and do things slowly, well its really up to you. Do you want to level fast? or take it slow, thats the great thing about daoc, the way they have done instancing.
3 - Class abilities. I mean yea, for the most part there is things like Slash, pierce and blunts that generally share the same abilities, some classes have a bit different skills in those tree, but overall they are the same. For casters its different. They may share the same base "ideal" of what a spell is (Example, Cone, DD, AE, PBAE,) but usually each class has unique abilities the other realms "nukers" dont have, and vice versa. Basically its not like wow where they are the same EXACT classes minus one racial trait like Tauren stomp, but they do share a lot of simular things but in no means are they cookie cutter like wow. There is a lot of diversity, and considering most classes have at least 3 tree's to spec in, some as many as 5 you can mix it up, but again with being able to mix it up, you can also "mess" it up if you gimp yourself by not planning out your spec's.
Hope this helps
EDIT: one site to check out (BUT DO NOT READ THEIR FORUMS ITS A CESS POOL) is daoc.catacombs.com, they have a character builder, that will allow you to see what abilities and things you can get at certain levels to help plan out your "50" template.

Play on Gareth or Merlin or any of the other 1000+ population servers. You cant spit without hitting a lowbie there.
Nimue has about 400 people on at peak time (10pm US Eastern time). Gareth, Merlin and a few others have 1600+ (comparable to a WoW server).
Personally I have low level toons on Gareth, Lamorak and Merlin and never lack for people to group with.
What I think Mythic needs to do is bite the bullet and instead of clustering the low population servers just outright merge them. This would have the added benefit of giving them a bunch of 'spare' servers so that if the population starts exploding they can add "NEW" servers without buying new hardware It's a Win-Win. Players get a more crowded server to play on and devs get some spare toys to recycle back into the game.
Another thing that Mythic should probably consider: Buy some air time and put a commercial on during some of the fantasy genre shows/movies that have been airing on TV lately. Couldn't ask for an easier way to hit your target audience with advertizing.

I could not agree more, now is the surge Mythics been waiting for, and its their flourishing numbers to lose at this point. People are interested, people are joining, but a TON of people have no idea what this game is, what its about, or where to get information on it.
You want to start pulling in those first time with wow mmo'rs who are now getting their feet wet and have an appetite for something more, give them what they need. Advertise like crazy, and this game will blow past where it was at launch, and every other launch of every expansion in my eyes.
I have not heard so many people talk about how they are tired of wow and looking for an alternative, and when I say "DAoC!" they go "Whats that?"

Yup. WoW has reached it's churn point. There are a LOT of people who have grown bored with WoW and are looking for "something new". Mythic could rake in those players easily with some solid advertizing.
Heck, get a new free trial made that includes all the graphics updates ASAP and get it on the shelves at best buy, etc.

I agree. Stop clustering and just merge. I know there could be a lot of pissed off customers when people are forced to fight over land in housing and possibly guild names, but I think it would be a lot easier on the community in the long run. Not to mention DAoC community is very understanding. At least do one of your polls on the idea and let the community decide, like you all are very good at. I praise Mythic for listening to the community, please do a poll on this idea via login poll.

I agree. Another thing Mythic should look at to improve the retain rate of newbs on the trial is to incorporate the catacombs engine, NF, and New town art into their trial. I understand it is a lot of work (maybe it's impossible), but the end return is worth it.
What I love about Mythic is that they listen to their community. I am almost 100% sure that the ideas given in this forum will be delivered to Mythic and talked about vrs any ideas talked about on game forums such as WoW or SWG.
Practices like these will make me and many others loyal customers to all games Mythic devotes their time to creating.

Is there a way to see in game what the definition of the spell is or what it does without going to the daoc website and looking it up. If not , theres a good suggestion. Seems like when I was playing I kept forgetting what my spells were.

right click the spell icon, this will bring up a little window with a brief desc of the spell. Then hit I (or, in some cases, shift-I) to delve it. This will give you detailed information on what it does, how long it takes to cast, etc.
Same goes for items, etc.
One of the cool things about Mythic is they have always provided this level of detail. Unlike other games where you have to go to 3rd party websites to figure crap like that out Mythic has always allowed players to see what they have and what it does.

Another thing that Mythic should probably consider:
Buy some air time and put a commercial on during some of the fantasy genre shows/movies that have been airing on TV lately.

Thats what I'm here for, collecting feedback and passing it on to the higher ups.

Unlike other games where you have to go to 3rd party websites to figure crap like that out Mythic has always allowed players to see what they have and what it does.

on Gareth server are you able to go to Atlantis? which server are you able to do all that on?
You can go to Atlantis on any server that is NOT Classic.
Meaning everywhere except Gareth, Lamorak and Ector.
