I haven't heard this rumor, but I know it to be true, just from the current state of the game. There is absolutely NO WAY Dark and Light will be released this year in a completed state, including all of the features that were promised.
How can I say this? Well I have been following the game since early 2003. I've seen the rate at which it has progressed and I've seen the result thus far (Settlers of Ganareth). If it took 4+ years to create SoG, it will easily take another couple of years to complete the game for the final version (DnL).
They should delay it if they are serious about the game. And they should prolly start thinking about an engine upgrade because the whole thing looks like something that has been out at least 3 years, but still runs horrible (P4 3.5 Gig /2Gig Ram/ 6800=10FPS)
Very outdated grafics if you ask me. I cannot understand the people who gets all hyped about a 50 mile view distance when the whole thing is of such low quality. Still the landscape IS the best thing about the game and that ain't saying much for the overall quality of the "game"
Releasing this game in April will be a financial suicide. Problem is they promise all those who paid 60$ an April launch. If they push back the launch to 2007 they will have the obligation to refund everyone. After more delay/lies/mis-information who will believe them ?
My prediction for this game :
April 1, 2006 : No news about the launch on the site. Pionneers start to worry, fanboys telling everyone to calm down, they never say any date, launch could be April 30th.
April 7, 2006 : Finally some news about the devs working hard, launch is still schedule for this month, nothing new.
April 21, 2006 : Bad News, Due to "Unforseen" bugs, at this point they might come back up with there hackers attacks, the game will not launch this month. No ETA at this time and NO news about pionners. Forums is exploding, pionneers are furious.
April 22, 2006 : Pioneers news, they are allowing refund of all pioneers account.

Just need to change those dates to '2006', and you probably hit the nail on the head.
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Yeah, I agree there is very little chance DnL will come out anytime in 2006 at all, much less in the spring as promised. It took 4 years to develop what is known as SoG and there is no way that they can go from what SoG is to what DnL is supposed to be in a few months, it just isn't possible. Don't kid yourself either. There is no perfectly running DnL beta going on behind the scenes. SoG is the pinnacle of Farlan's projects. The beta version of DnL isn't as advanced as what SoG is, for whatever that is worth.
If they were to take every dime of income/investment capital and spend it on programming, coding, and bugfixes then maybe they can churn out a 1/2 way decent title by 2007. ...maybe. That doesn't even cover the cost of publishing, copyrighting, advertising, overhead, employee benefits, etc.
Even then, that doesn't account for the major flaw within DnL/SoG which is this: The game's engine is 3 years old but it requires a state-of-the-art PC to play it on decent settings. That's screwy, IMHO, and the best sign these guys don't have a clue. If the engine is 3 years old, then, you should be able to run it perfectly with 3 year old PC. That is not the case, however, as many of you guys have found out.
P.S. - A funny side note: Did you ever notice that on DnL's main page they still have an award posted for "Most anticipated: 2004"? It's 2006 and the game is far from ready. LOL, that should tell new folks who visit the website something right there.
I belive this game will be released in 2006 ( almost shure not April, best case in May ).
They will release a very decent game without all mentioned features and its nothing wrong with that. They can easly add all featurs after is released. Look at Lineage 2 thats acctuly most played MMORPG beside WoW.
I started it as close beta player, we had open beta and they prommised us that all features we will get at release. They release same open beta that we played a month for free.
There was no mounts, no castle siges, no boss to raid etc... all this thing game in Chronicle patches. I joined Linege 2 couse they had free PvP, Castle Sieges and Mounts, and at release all I get was free PvP and grind grind grind.
I would also like to mention that it was horror to login to Lineage 2 server, you need like a half an hour pressing OK button to get in (or macro ). There was constantly server restartes at least 2 per day in first month after release. A lot of buged quests and expolits so some made milions and milions and they did not even try to get those guys and punish them ...
About SoG graphics, if you put engine to: 6 and ingame type engineSetlevel: High, graphics is one of the best I ever saw, not only landscape but characters too. I have P4 3.2 X800XT PE and have from 22 to 25 FPS all the time, exception is n00b island (I have there 15+FPS ), and remember max fps is 25.
I know they can make DnL playable at April release, curently SoG can be quite boring after you reach cap lvl 35. There is no content and you must make your own if you dont wont to be bored.
Dont get me wrong I do not like Farlans way how they handle stuff, especialy NO COMMUNCATION, player do not know shit whats happening etc...
At least what they could do is make a lot of GM based events with special prises etc just to keep it interesting . (They have prepared 1000 quests for SoG but they suppose wait for stability to be solved ...)
p.s. I bought Pioneer account and I would not sell it even if/when I get bored. (just hope they will put some content into it in this month, othervise I will not play until I see some new thing in it )
The game runs Horrible on my pretty good gaming-rig. A pc I have purpose build for playing games and a PC that runs all other games smooth as silk.
The game looks horrible. When its night I cannot see **** and in daylight, trees and textures remind me of something that could have passed for ok-ish 3-4 years ago. (yes i am running on engine lvl 6) yes..the landscape looks pretty in the distance but when you approach it.....Its like chasing the rainbow -no pots of gold to find here I have seen flightsims with better ground terrain.
The game is so sluggish and flimsy and the combat reminds me of someone fighting drunkenly under water -The combat animation (singual) is very poorly animated and combat is totally uninvolved. The characters might look passable when standing still, but wait till you seem em move
mobs look out of place and reason -and everyone seem like they are skating along the ground -detached, without connection to the ground.
I like the idea of a virtual sandbox were you can be your own master, but this is just so buggy and unispired that you would be better off day dreaming.
The notion that farlan have 1000 quests and other unseen resourses waiting behind the scenes, sounds a lot like wishfull thinking to me.
just because other games have had shitty starts does not make this one any better, nor should they become the accepted standard when releasing a MMO. In my book D&L is a major step back in the evolution of MMOS and it WILL fall on its arse when released, hopefully ending the amateaur-eara of Garage MMO builders.

I realy dont uderstand why so much fuss about it. If you dont like it and belive its such garbage why even follow/play game and post in forums ?
WoW was developed more than 4 years with lot more programers and designer and game engine is so sucky that they need to use anime chars and world ... At start there was some major BUGs and people could not connect to servers ... (happen even now after a year )
I did not see any MMORPG that was flawles at release and I play/try a lot of them.
All Iam saying for me its worth to wait for a while, otherwise I will just play someting else, dont see where is the problem ?
And about: "Lineage 2 and WoW are on a completely different level than SoG.."
You should try both games in beta stage so you would know ...
This is not just about a game having a rough start. D&L is no diamond in the rough. Its rotten to the core.
People are actively voiceing their dissapointment because they are just that...disapointed. We should only follow and post about a game if we like em? Sorry I do not get the logic of that at all. A lot of people had high hopes about D&L because it looked good on paper but the implimentation is a disaster. People here love games and we love to talk about games -good and bad
I really dont get you WOW statement either. WOW has an exccelent game engine that does a hell of a job creating a seamless world without hardly any loading at all...Their art dirrection and implementation shines like a beacon of light compared to D&L.
Yes, they had more money to spend on dev and so what? we should accept poor games because of what excatly?
sorry.. I dont buy games because I feel sorry for the people who made them.
The problem with the MMORPG industry is that everyone is giving them excuses. "Well no MMORPG has released flawless" So what, does that mean we should accept that as THE Norm?!?!
As for the L2 and WoW. I did test both in Beta and they Both ran better in Beta than the "Stand-Alone Gift to its Loyal Fans" that is called D&L: SOG. Hell, I can even say that BOTH in its Beta stage looks better, have better customization, has MORE content, more quests, more of EVERYTHING than SOG has now. One has to be very naive if they think D&L can be released with what it is promised by April. IF they are lucky, they may do it in December, IF.
If you really want to you can contact me and I will show you what they do not want their fans to know. All the lieng and run around they have done My contact info can be found in the website linked in my sig.

Like I already mentioned they probably will release it in April/May 2006, but without all promise features like most mmorpgs are released.
p.s. Iam interested what kind of info you get, so my email/msn: ikshadow@gmail.com .

You are kidding right? WoW and L2 were and are both far superior games then SoG/DnL will ever be. Even during their respective beta's. For your information DAOC had a flawless launch. The game was lacking in mid to high level content, but other then that. It launched with little hassles at all.
I'm still laughing about your comment on WoW's graphics though. Ok so how about L2 and EQ2. Both of those have better graphics SOG/DnL. How about Guildwars or even DAOC. Both DAOC and Guildwars had small developer staffs. There are plenty of small development teams out there with MMO's. That have gone the distance, all with far superior products then SoG/DnL currently is. So could you please stop trying to use that as an excuse.

Adding content to a game is an ongoing job. 5+ years after (a good) game's release you will still continue to see content additions and game tweaks (i.e. "nerfs"). That's part of a persistant online game...especially a MMPORPG.
Launching a game that has a solid structure but little content > launching a game that has awful structure and tons of content. With a solid base you can build up and add content at a steady pace without going back to fix the important things. Having a good foundation also clears up more programmers/coders to focus on adding more of this content, rather than have them focus on things that should already be in place.
Unfortunately for DnL fans, the game lacks both structure and content at this point.
Originally posted by IKShadow And about: "Lineage 2 and WoW are on a completely different level than SoG.." You should try both games in beta stage so you would know ...
I have and was just in one. The most recent one was almost flawless. No problems with lag, login, graphics are good, character creation was smooth and has been in development from scratch for a little over 2 years. Ready for release in a few weeks. Beautiful compared to SOG/DnL. The others, not as much. I was not in the early alpha/beta but nearer to release on both. Neither, none, nil, zilch was as bad as SOG/DnL. Mayhaps you should have also. And about beta stage: Why is it you still fail to realize SOG/DnL wasnt supposed to be a beta? They are calling it now because its so dang obvious!
And I agree, WOW and Lineage ARE on a different level.
Have you guys ever tried to boost your direct 3d graphic setting in windows to max?
I have and with graphic setting in SOG to 6, the game is very very nice.
I get 20-25 fps on the mainland and around 5-10 on noob island, sure its low fps on noob island, with ALL those mobs and all those players kranked up on a small area.
But if DnL will launch it will not be at april, prolly fall or winter.
Cancelled? Can't see that. As recently as early December people were saying this was vaporware.
Outdated graphics. Get real - literally. One of the game features is that the landscapes are 'ordinary'. They are real and so you tend to dismiss this as being nothing special. The weather is very slick as well and the trees, bushes etc are very well done. (Provided by Biotech of course, a different company).
Lag: yep sucks and has made things very hard to play although I have had 25fps as well. You might want t o check out Pingplotter freeware, i had a problem over Christmas which turned out to be a bad jump. Fixed now and things are much better. Not perfect though, far from it.
I doubt it will be April 06 but 06 nevertheless.
Quests: there are reports of a lot of quests on the beta. AD certainly planned to run quests at the start of SoG but the server issues stopped this obviously. We certainly do not have all the beta content though. 1000 quests would be huge, especially compared tp DDO which is talking about a pretty paltry 43 x 3 diffficulty levels for about 130. Ouch.
Communication: they try. And they have made posts but you need to dig them out and read them.
Pioneers no idea what they were doing - wouldn't go that far. Lots seem to have a very good idea of what they were doing. Either way it doesn't mean the game is good or willlaunch. SnailGames however paid about $5M. Now maybe they are idiots as well but I would be surprised if they hadn't done a bit of digging first.
April 06 I would see as tough. There is work to do. Looking tons better than it was a month ago though. Most people can log in with no problems - some still exist.
