ROLE-PLAYING - why have you left us?

role-playing is all but dead.
* guild wars - and instanced type games make it impossible.
* wow - with teen ratings you're also stuck with the 9 year old next door
i'm not a d&d freak in real life or anything, but lets face it.... life sucks
i enjoy completely getting a way and getting caught up in something.
it seems to relieve in game frustration when i can pretend my way into being in an epic struggle and thus justify why i have died infinity times in a row.
i dunno. the more people get used to games, the more our characters in them become another appendage of our RL selves....
anyone think roleplaying will ever exist again?
