I'd take the title of geek any day to be able to play my LARP as I've envisioned it. And since it's not going to come any time soon, I've even come to tramping around in 35-40lb chainmail armor and a 5lb sweet-looking helm somewhat like sutton-hoo style, but cooler. Also had leather boots on that matched quite well and a staff at my side. It feels pretty cool just putting the armor on; imagine fighting for your 'king' or 'queen' in it and going on guard duty or spying on enemy lands, etc.
By the way, the costumes would be real (and expensive for large quantities) and wouldn't look anything like that weird... bird-man-thing? No plastic. No polyurethane. The real thing. Genuine plate armor that fits as comfortably as combat armor was made to fit. Real horses. Close to real weapons. Spears that have the tips cut off of them so they just have filed-down metal tips (or caps probably) on long poles. Streaming banners. Enforced and encouraged RP. Swords, shields, axes, maces, whatever. Quests from time to time (both individual and game-wide event-driven quests that anyone at any time can participate in). It'd be sweeet... *drools*
