GW players what other no montly fee or free to play MMOs do you enjoy?

I've tried a number of them so far: Knights Online, Gate to Heavens, Silkroad, Martial Heroes, Conquer, and KAL Online. And so far they all have the same basic quests for all or almost all quests. Go kill x thing x times. Aside from that Knights Online, Gate to Heavens, and Conquer all seem to quickly halt exploration making the need to level up to go farther away from where you start, or have to level in order to progress through quests and in general leveling focused with no apparent purpose for doing so. Silkroad is the only game that I have so far seen a purpose other than leveling.

So with all that said I'm curious what everyone else is playing and or tried out and their thoughts. I'm really not interested in subscription games because they are too expensive. If games like World of Worcraft and other popular subsciption games were cheaper like maybe $5-7 per month I'd be more inclined to play. All I can figure is those that play either have high income or sacrifice all non essencial funds to one or more of them.

i tryed anarchy online , kall , and another one i dont remember the name ...

i tryed some demos , eve , everquest II.

i have decided i will play guildwars for at least 3 years ,  and i say 3 years cose i imagine at that time the grafics may be old fashion.

the game fits completely my needs , as a very complex combat system. can take ages to be good at. and there is no liniear why of learning , evolving ... its too big and complex for that. i like to compare gw with chess ... but gw is way more complex.

Mechwarrior 2, Never Winter Nights, Diablo, Star Craft, Battlefront, Battlefield 1942 and 2. There are many more MMORPG instanced games like those that I have played/do play and enjoy.

Not really an RPG, but Gunz The Duel.

Imagine a 3 person Counter Strike with both guns and melee weapons. You create a persistent character. As you kill you get XP and raise lvls. As you kill other people you get money(bounty), which can be used to buy better swords/weapons.

It's an action game but it's fun. You can dodge to all sides, like in Max Payne. You can run on walls like in Ninja Gaiden. If you fall down from a high ledge, you can even save yourself by sticking your sword into a wall, and use it to jump to another place.

It's in early beta right now. Tons of hackers, the 6 servers there are right now can hold 2000 players max, but they are cheap servers. This means that they lag allot and are always full because it's so popular. Also, people with certain routers like Netgear can't play it yet, because it's makers Maiet Entertainment still have no fundings for this freeware game. It will always remain free, but you can buy some special items like hats and caps when the game is released.

With all this being said it is fun. It is different and its always free. It doesnt have the production values of a moderen action game, but this 3 person game has heart. No real story... Still allot of things to be implanted like its quest system. Tons of bugs, and the graphics are not the pretiest, but its all 3D and all in real time. True real time.

the movement system uses the basic WASD FPS style gameplay. Skilled players have adapted what is called K style. It's a style were really skilled players learn to jump and flip flop on walls to kill the enmies efficitly using light dashs with melee and kiting the enemy with machine guns or dual wielding pistols from afar. Clan wars will also soon come.

Mate - The chances are right now that the game has problems. But when everything gets into place, when a proper protection system comes into play and good servers come out - Then I think this game will attract allot of people. It's the most innovative action game I have played in years. It takes tons of skill like in Counter-Strike, but it's much more aggresive. Aiming is not the only thing here. It's almost like playing a mixture of a fighting game and a platform game, because you have to be so flexible when you move.

I'll admit something - It's quite boring at first. It will take allot of time to reach higher lvls, but when you do and you meet similiar skilled players in the lvl 20-30 range, you will see how much this game has to offer. At lvl 1-10 it looks like a simple action game with no skill. It's an awesome game. Maybe you should wait until they fix things. Maybe if you will try it now, don't have much patience or judge things based on first impression or simply am not open minded, you will go away dissapointed.

But at least do me a favor - No matter what your stance is on action games, please bookmark its website www.gunzonline.com

this is a korean game, but the international version is in beta right now. You can make an account and play. Just be prepared to expect all its flaws. It's been on the way for a long time, but Maiet is growing. You can see allot of promising things on its forum, that is under way from the Korean and Japanese versions.

Thanks for the replies so far. I discovered after posting about Fly for Fun and I started playing it and is decent. Offer some variety from the other MMOs. I'd have to say its comparable to the entertainment I get out of Silkroad.

I pretty much have all the mechwarrior titles that have ever existed except those recent releases on the xbox which I refuse to get. I have heard of Never Winter Nights but have not looked into it yet maybe in the future when I am bored with what I am doing currently and with chapter 2 coming soon I will probably play it for quite awhile before I am looking for alternatives when I get tired of it. Of course i played diablo and diablo 2 but I pretty much play both of those to death back in the day and with the older graphics they jsut don't feel so appealing any more lol. I do have Star Craft but have yet to play it :) I'll probably start it once I get around to finishing Warcraft II and or III.

Is Never Winter Nights online only? or is it like how diablo II was play offline or online and in lan parties and such?

Never Winter Nights is more on the lines of Diablo where you do not need to connect to play. Try it out though- it is fun.

I used to Play Member Runescape 2.. Which as it was my 1st MMORPG I thought it was terriffic.... Until I heard people talking about GuildWars.. So I got hooked on GW..

RuneScapes graphics werent good.. but the gameplay was pretty good.. with some good good storylines. Also they had very good updating systems.. If I remember correctly they had weekly updates.. and sometimes they would miss a week for a larger update.

pretty good skill system.. different from GuildWars.. and with carpentry skill on the horizon, this game could take off if they improved the graphics..  image

I'm not really playing any MMORPG's aside from Guild Wars (well, actually that's a CORPG) at the moment.

PlanetSide will be free to play for a year starting on the 14th of February though.
Ofcourse this involves some gameplay limitations: you can only increase to a certain rank which means your arsenal is limited... but I think it'll be a load of fun, I've always wanted to try the only MMOFPS available ;p

Oh and ArenaNet has already stated that the engine will be upgraded at some point in the future, this means that not only the gameplay of Guild Wars will evolve with each chapter, but also the graphics!
Three years from now, Guild Wars may look even better than it does today (if your rig can handle it)

I've found that generally FPS games last longer than MMORPGs (for me anyway).
E.g.: I'm still playing UT Classic (first played it way back in 1999) at lanparties in 2006, but I haven't touched Lineage (2000 or 2001?) in many years...
Ofcourse that might be because I prefer skill-based combat over statistic-based combat.
I prefer to win because I'm better, not because I spent more time playing ;)

I also play Guild Wars and other online games for a long period of time and have found that i have been obligated to play them even though i have reached level cap. I have also played Runescape which is a free play game but you can pay monthly for extra privilages but Guild Wars' superior graphics and improved gameplay will stop you playing it and go back to Guild Wars!!!
