EVE-Online; Top rated game on MMORPG, but virtually never any new info on it.

Eve-Online is the highest rated game here.

And yet the review is 2 years and 3 or 4 massive content patches out of date. The news is sparse and outdated, and there is a lack of features.

Why has this game got so little coverage?

because none of the admins want to pay for the game for a year in order to play all the new features?

This here site MMORPG.com is not   the official EvE site. For ALL the info you seek, all up to date info, go to the EvE official, main, site. image (psst... that's what official main sites are for heheh. image )

BTW, I've played it, and it is a NICE game. Especially if you want a break from the over saturated Elves/Dwarves/Orcs/fantasy market. image)

Ironicly, one of our staff members is a doing a review right now on it.

Plus, we were getting hammered because we were giving TOO much news of EVE online in the news discussion forum

But, dont worry. A review is coming out very soon

Free download no Credit card needed. Try it out. Personally, I think it is one of the better PvP MMOs out there

Because it's not like a game at all. It's more of a job..... There's no fun factor in Eve IMO (and I beta'd this game for all the fanboys) and there is next to nothing you can do by yourself. Actually, I had a great time in beta and made some good friends mining roids an building ships. It was only after the game went live and people were afraid to lose what they had earned that the game lost its appeal to me. Too much like RL for my tastes - got enough reality in my life as it is image

Lol many mmos have had big updates but only sometimes the mmorpg.com people will make a review(otherwise it would be impossible to do like 5000 reviews every month or so).

Hate to break it to you but to the EVE community having only Beta experience under your belt is as good as being a noob today. Due to how vast evolutionary growth of EVE with every content patch and expansion, your sole exposure during Beta gives you little credibility with today's EVE.

Having Beta experience may be good enough for some MMOs, but EVE has changed so much since Beta that you do the general mmo community a disservice by criticizing with out-dated and inaccurate knowledge.

That being said...there are now many activities you can do solo, but they are still nowhere on the same level as multiplayer activities are. IIRC, the devs made it a design decision that the majority of development resources would be dedicated to the multiplayer aspect and that the solo gameplay would always be secondary class activity.

i was under the impression there wasnt any drastic changes in eve for a long time......

so nothing to report besides a stable running MMO

Since the MMORPG review 3 Expansions (Exodus, Cold War, Red Moon Rising) and a multitude of content and balance patches were added to EVE. At it's base (eg skill training, how you fly the ship, can't "leave" the ship, etc) EVE is still the same, yet it's a very different game now.

Beta is as similar to Current game as Quake II is to Quake III.

I would say the content available in beta makes up less than 5% of what is around today, and almost every game mechanic has been altered. The game looks different and plays different.

This isnt some hacknslash mmog where all content patches add is more items and another area. This game EVOLVES.

There were several expansions as someone noted before, this game has a fair amount of updates, minor and major. I am also very puzzled how this game could reach rank 1 since this game is for hardcore people. There is too much grind to satisfy PvE person, and although PvP is good, its not for casual PvPers either. Why? becuae if you spend 1 month to buy your ship, you can lose EVERYTHIN in 1 minute becuase u were jumped and killed by 4 guys. This game is good, but only hardcore PvPers would fully appreciate it. Thats why there arent that many people playing it, although the numbers seem to rise slowly.

I played this game 4 times in total (1 month per try), and even though I found a good corp once, and I had people helping me a LOT (Eve community is one of the best IMO) with money and free ships, still, I was afraid to PvP because I wasnt any good at it and If i were to die, id loose my ship. And since the only way to be good at PvPing is to actualy PvP, its kinda closed circle. Those people who played Eve from the beginning, they have money, ships, connections and skills so they are way overpowered compared to newcommers with no skills, no money, no way to replace lost equipment. IMO thats the biggest turnoff for newcomers. Not to say your skills will never reach skill level of those players who played Eve non stop since its release (skills in Eve level up in real time). So as long as that player plays and levels skills, no newcomer can reach his skill level.
All in all, this game is good, but its tailored to a rather specific type of players.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
