For all of you people asking: Is FFXI worth it? A real experience

ObiyerObiyer Member UncommonPosts: 511

I'm so sleepy, that was the longest install/update in my life, probably because the game pad I am using decided not to calibrate correctly. I can't even enjoy the game in this state, but it seems preety nice. The atmosphere of this game is unique and one can tell it apart instently from most other mmorpgs and the beginning FMV was extremely well done. These are just my thoughts, and I better stop before I fall asleep and my head hits the keyboard.

-Level 1 Galka Warrior and proud of it!

EDIT: This has to be the worst MMORPG in existance. It's like the sims online only a notch up with a few battles here and there. Grouping is atrocious because of the fact that there are Japanese people in the server with you and they don't how to speak english. The exp gains are too small and this game requires too much of a time dump for little or no rewards (3-4 Weeks to get to Level 30 if you know where to level). This is a mmorpg with training wheels! There is no character customization and it is guaranteed that if you are at the same level as another of your race then your damage will be 10-15 apart at most. In actuality, I had more fun turning the fan fuction on my airflo controler on and off (what I did during the long downtimes) than actually playing the game.  Yes, this game is preety but then so is Halo - and I will not get into that.

You didn't like Halo? Halo was one of the best games of the year. Anyway, a few things. Yes, leveling is slow. However, is that a bad thing? It wouldn't be any fun for me if I could max out my character in a month and have a bunch of uber1337omgwtfpwnzed players running around. Also, there's a 10-12 hour difference between the US and Japan. I suggest you stop playing at 4AM if you are only encountering Japanese players. As for your comment about Japanese people not being able to speak English, I don't think I need to comment on that apparent allegation that Japanese people are not capable of being bilingual - the truth is, more of them know English than we know Japanese.

Ah yes, I think what he meant to say was " There are many Japanese players, and I can't speak Japanese"

As far as the game itself.  I was definately disappointed.  I don't really care about uber133tne22 but, the game moves very slowly.  No Guild support ( per sey) ??  Charecters that are truley beautiful, but redundant.  Everywhere I looked, there I was.  I enjoyed the combat system, it is very unique and I hope to see that type of system in future games.  And what about the mobs ?? I know other games have mobs in specific locales that tend to get camped and such, which makes hunting a pain, but FFXI has mobs (lest for lower lvls) so randomly spread that I felt like a marathon runner having to run around to find a decent lvl mob.

Maybe its just me, but would it really kill square to implement a fixed 3rd person camera so that every time a moved i could see in front of me, without having to be ambidexterous.

The game has alot of wonderful things in it. I really enjoyed the graphics and charecter models.  The world ( flora, fauna) is beautiful if not random.  I am sure many, many people will enjoy FFXI, unfortunately I won't be one of them....

Like I said I will not touch the topic that is 'Halo' just the name sparks of anger and loathing on unparalleled levels. The question is: Why should anyone be billingual to enjoy a level/grouping based game. The gameplay wouldn't have been so irritating if it wasn't for the fact that one could not play solo during downtime for the NA players. Furthermore, why should I have to play FFXI during certain times, not saying I do play at 4 am, in which more people who speak English are playing. As a player I should be able to solo and get good gains during low a population while grouping holds even better experience at a high population.  The characters are also clones of each other: If you are the same race and class as another people on the same level you are guaranteed to be an exact clone. Even at high levels with only equipment which is level based also so more than likely both of you will be wearing that same cookie cutter set. Support jobs are mildly changing but you have to grotesquely level those up too. The irony in the end is that you aren't waiting 30 days for those uber1337omgwtfpwnzed players, you are waiting two to three months which makes the whole situation very sad.

What is your probem? Is this your first MMORPG? I have to ask you did you happen to get exilled to some japanese only server? Becuase ive been playing this since it came out and i have seen a vast amount of american players all willing to party, also most japanese players can speak a good amount of english so they are easy to party with too.  Why do you want to solo? THe genre of the game its self M MULTI player ORPG tells you're going to have to party.  The whole point of the game is to socialize with others and to work together.  If you want to solo i suggest you go play X-2 or somthing because you're obviously not ready for XI.  If you rly have a problem with the way FFXI is set up then i suggest you get out of MMORPGs because ive played about all of them and your going to have the same thing in any other one.  The only difference is youll be whinning in another forum.

Shouldn't play at a certain time? It's not a matter of being restricted to playing at a certain time, it's having a regular schedule. Generally, when we're awake the Japanese players are asleep and vice versa. There's a 12 hour difference between the US, EST and Tokyo. I met a Japanese person and we've kind of become friends. I met him while I was staying up all night just because I couldn't sleep. When I told him what time it was there, he couldn't believe it. He couldn't believe that anybody would be up that late/early without having slept at all that night. This, coming from a level 69 ranger/34 samurai. Really, with a 12 hour difference, I can reasonably see myself interacting with somebody that far away between 12 and 2 on weekends. Really, though, how do you get up for work after staying up that late?

this is some of the most ridiculous crap i've ever read! this is by far (i would say) the best god damn Final Fantasy game there has been.  It is extremely fun.  Even if there were a hundred thousand Japanese players a bunch of them are high level characters that can help you get quests such as the dragoon quest, which is extremely hard for a low level.  This game may take you awhile but i'd rather have it take me a year to beat then like a month with diablo2.  Its got excellent jobs and excellent races.  If you think this is a bad game you should hang be shot.

lol...yes i agree...I havent even played the damn game yet and i think the person who made this post is a stupidass....Diablo 2 for instance which i quit very long time ago because of the stupid gayness of it...hacks and all the bullshit...died...i wish i didnt spend money on that damn game.  would be much better if the homos didnt cheat. As far as i know cheating isnt possible in FF XI which automatically hits my gaming G-spot.  I like to play games for the fun.  Not for the easyness of it.  A never ending game is the tru gamers dream.  Live it up.

Personally I am enjoying my experiences in FFXI. I can understand some of the complaints, but you must realize that most MMORPGs do not allow you to instantly reach the maximum level in mere moments. I think it boils down to opinion, some people love the social aspect as well as the group experience. Leveling isn't that bad with a decent group (these become easier to find later on) and the quests that are available could keep me entertained for hours.

OK, now for the forum moderator part image: It's perfectly all right to agree/disagree, but let's keep it civilized and refrain from personally insulting one another =)

Supringly this game is actually pretty good i had my doubts about it like i was never going to touch it, but i'm enjoying it immensley i'm playing both FF and Horizon i'll make my judgement later on which one is better...like within 6 months because thats the only way you can truelly judge a game.

I agree Zaradis. I think it takes a month of decent playing to adequately rate an MMORPG. Rating it on the first week, or even the second, after playing is a little too soon. After a month you should really get into the game and learn what it's all about.

I have to disagree im afraid. this is one of my favourite MMORPGs ever, and has a lot to offer. different jobs which you can switch to with no penalty, hundreds of quests, missions which improve you're rank.

As well as boss creatures to fight(a truly fun experience),feels like a true FF. If you like the series, you will like this a lot. I am enjoying this a lot,and cant wait to get my secondary job.

If you dont try this, you are missing out on a great online experience.

Do you think I will enjoy Final Fantasy XI?

Do I have to buy a keyboard if I want to play on PS2?

Holy hell!  FFXI is BY FAR the worst MMORPG I have ever played.  And I have played most of them.  It is a cardinal sin to even mention FFXI on the other MMORPGS due to the fact that everyone hates this game.  The UI in this game is the worst design ever, sure you can spend 900 hours setting up macros if you hate the gameplay, which you will.  The combat system blows serious dogs, nothing about this game has any sense of realism whatsoever.  Getting from place A to place B takes an ungodly amount of time, unless you want to go rent a llama thingy, which looks incredibly gay, not to mention you cant keep it.  I could go on and on, I suggest you dont waste your money on this game.  It is purely and completely horrid.  I hate myself for even buying it, patching it for 12 hours, then waiting the 5 minutes for the comp to uninstall all 18 bajillion files.

You know.... it amazes me how many ppl open their mouths before they know what they're talkin about......

By community votes and opinions alone ppl know FFXI is a great MMORPG, some ppl just dont' like it, thats fine and all but when you get online and start lying about it just trying to put a good argument why you think it sucks.....You not only make yourself look dumb but anybody who is related to you...

Macros.....do not take that long to set up they are quite easy to do unless you have the brain compacity of a retarded monkey....I'm a WHM and it took me about 5 min to set up all my macros and i use 3 full macro bars....

The battle system is just the same as most other MMOs you would know this since you've "SUPPOSEDLY" played many other MMOs....

Getting from one place to another dosn't take that long just about as long as any other MMO hell they even give you chocobos you can earn to ride, for your convience at level 15 but you probally wouldn't know that since you probally only got to level 4 or so.....

Btw llama thing? I assume you mean a choccobo....... that statement alone makes it obivious you haven't played FF before so i began to wonder What In The HELL made you want to play FFXI to begin with.....since you obviously have no taste for a real rpg.........

    Btw......18 bajillon files?   bah....nm........to easy : )

hello, i am a mmorpg vet myself, and i have been playing ffxi for 3 months now. i enjoy the game because i never lag, the game has a fantastic economy, and i like the linkshell idea. as others mentioned, the game needs more customization for the characters, but the way you look isnt THAT big of a deal to me. leveling does get to take a while, but im alright with that, as ive spent many many hours leveling my characters in other games. i enjoy the linkshell system, its sort of like a guild, you use your linkpearl for a private channel to communicate with you friends which can help you get people for exp parties. im playing a melee, and i only use 3 macro bars, and i only get abilities every so often, so i dont have to fool around with them much. if your a caster, you will have to macro your spells which can take a bit, but would you rather use UI? get a gamepad or something, i never use my mouse and the UI doesnt bother me one bit.

in conclusion, i believe ffxi to be better than most of the games out in market today, like other games it has its cons, but the pros greatly outweigh the cons and i suggest everyone to try it out. if you dont like it, well, youve lost $50.00. but thats not my problem.

I still have my doubts about this game... I have been a diehard fan of the FF series for years, but the games have gone WAY downhill lately... Sitting alone in a room nobody within 100 yards of my house i still feel embarassed to play X-2 because it is so childish and girly, not to mention how incredibly easy the games have become. Is XI this way too? If it is i might cry ='(

well in a way he is right about the birds you can ride it at lvl 15 but you still ned to do the quest at lvl 20 the very first time  the reason it was lowered to lvl 15 was because if you have a sub job or adv job you dont have to wait as long to ride them while lvling the new class up

Well first of all I have to tell you I enjoy playing FFXI myself for various reasons:

    1) It tends to irritate power gamers--->force grouping, actual use of input in combat(macros, renkei), lack of soloing aspect

    2) Discourages immature gamers--->difficult to grasp UI, again force grouping, leveling/deleveling system

    3) Weeds out l33t gamers--->jpn are already the highest characters in game

    4) Weeds out over-zealous fanboys/gals--->online aspect, different direction from previous FFs

    5) Weeds out incompetent gamers--->use of macros, renkei and EXP system

Overall it tends to if anything, favor the casual gamer or the ways of a casual/PT power gamer (as myself). Mind you there will always be those from the above list that slip through and stick with it, for those few that can eliminate themselves from this list I applaud you. /clap And mind you this list is not a-hole proof (there's always a few running around in every MMORPG).

But the rewards come in short burst to keep the excitement going for all gamers:

    1) First WS at level 2-3

    2) First new JS at level 10-15

    3) Subjob at level 18

    4) Chocobo at level 20

    5) Advance class at level 30

    6) AF armor starts at level 40

But there are numerous other small milestones between each of the levels to keep gamers coming back. Overall this game tries to get the gamer to take things in stride:

    1) The dynamics of grouping with 2 or 3 others start at level 10 (full grouping is not encouraged)

    2) The use of WS really takes hold when battles are more drawn out starting at levels 13 to 15

    3) By then some people will began to develop social skills to learn to get along with others (those who don't will soon find themselves without a group).

But this population topped with the addition of gamers who are in their second or third rotation of jobs will also bring up the new guys/gals and educate them in the right way of things.

*On a side note it is a little know fact that after level 20 groups can have a level difference of up to 7, with only a 25% hit to EXP for the lowest level person in the group. Each person that is equal to the person who has the highest level, will get their full share of the EXP/6(or whatever the group number).
